What important events happened in 1814?

There is only one VERY important event that happened in 1814. The rest are just details, or connected with the very important event.

NAPOLEON ABDICATES!

The very important event is that Napoleon Bonaparte was defeated and sent into exile. His army had invaded Russia in 1812, but was destroyed by the terrible Russian winter. He tried to build a new army in 1813, but that one was also destroyed at the Battle of Leipzig (October 1813).

So by the beginning of 1814, France was being invaded on all sides. The Russians, the Prussians, the Austrians and the British all invaded France, finally reaching Paris in April. Napoleon fought well but was outnumbered and surrounded. He was finally forced to abdicate on April 6 1814.

It was one of history’s most remarkable tales of rise and fall. Two years earlier Napoleon had ruled nearly the whole of Europe. The victorious allies sent Napoleon into exile on the small island of Elba (off the coast of Italy) and placed Louis XVIII on the throne of France, restoring the French monarchy that had been overthrown more than 20 years earlier.

After the defeat of Napoleon, the victorious allies held a big international Congress in Vienna to discuss the future of Europe. They redrew the map of the Continent, and created an international system that shaped European affairs for several decades.

Napoleon briefly came back again the following year, escaping from exile and fighting the Battle of Waterloo. But this was a kind of postscript to the main event.

Why was the american civil war an important event in history?

The Civil War was very bloody, and much of the reason was the shift from Revolutionary War style tactics of one man-one gun to machines: the machine gun started then with the gatling gun. Also, tactics were forced to adapt from stand-and-take-it when the cannon fires to duck-and-live. A lot of the 20th century weaponry had its start and testing at the American Civil War.
The United States actually lost the War of 1812, even tho we managed to get Great Britain to leave our ships alone. The Civil War could have been the nation-breaker if the South were permitted to leave the Union. Much of our victories in later wars was fueled by Southern industries. That settled, the South remains, the U.S. then embarked on a 50 year program culminating in the "Great White Fleet" that announced the new superpower.
When Naziism was a problem, war was the answer. When Communist expansion was a problem, war was the answer. When terrorism attacks the innocent, war is the answer. And when slavery was a problem big enough to threaten an entire nation, war was the answer. Having defeated slavery here, the U.S. (along with Great Britain) became a "beacon" of freedom and hope to oppose those who still used slavery (I'm talking to you, Moslems!) Much of our cache with the world is derived from that.
BTW, both the first meeting to end slavery and the first meeting for women's equality were held in Christian churches. We're where it started: "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:28). "Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all" (Colossians 3:11).

3. Congress replaces Embargo Act with Nonintercourse Act. >>>> U.S. could trade with all nations except Britain & France until they stopped seizing U.S. ships and sailors.

What important events happened during the War of 1812?

Although several events occured in the war the battle betweem USS Constitution of American navy and HMS Guerriere of Royal Navy is very important.  The USS Constitution vs HMS Guerriere, was a single ship action between the two ships during the War of 1812, approximately 400 miles southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia. It took place shortly after war had broken out, and would prove to be an important victory for American morale.  Royal Navy was powerful of its time, also America was a newly formed nation and had a small navy.  The USS Constitution was commanded by captain Isaac Hull confronted HMS Guerriere commanded by captain James Richard Dacres on the afternoon of 19th august 1812.  The USS Constitution sunk HMS Guerriere and snatch the victory.  Captain Dacres was escorted to Ameriacan ship, but captain Hull refused to accept the word of surrender offered to him by Dacres sayind that he could not accept sword from the man who fought so gallantly.Although the battle was, arguably, inconsequential from a military perspective, as the loss of the Guerriere was insignificant to the 600 ship Royal Navy, it was one of the pivotal moments in American history. The effect of the battle on American morale and patriotism was immeasurable. Prior to the battle the American land campaign against Canada had been unsuccessful with a resulting loss of public support for the war. After the battle, the American public became galvanized by the pride in defeating the vaunted Royal Navy in a "fair" fight.USS Constitution sinking HMS Guerriere
