People got tired of war without a quick victory after WWII. The government also made the mistake of not declaring Vietnam a war and therefore limiting the military in what they could and could not do. The draft also did not help. In my personal opinion, look at the war in Iraq now. Instead of a quick victory we got dragged into a drawn out conflict. Now Americans who were waving flags and blessing G.W. on his decision are calling for his head and say we never belonged there. Sad to say, but most americans are fickle like that. War is only popular if it is a quick and decisive win for whatever side. Same principal occured during vietnam. We went there and tried to help a failing democracy but instead got dragged into a bloody mess that no one was prepared for. Throw in dirty, smelly, disgusting hippies who hate their country so much they will spit in veterans faces and disgrace our flag, and you have a horrible domestic mess.
