92 Civic Wheel Fell Off While Driving. Was It Because A Loose Lug Nut Or Wheel Bearing

How far can I drive with a bad wheel bearing?

Main thing is - get it fixed PDQ (pretty darn quick). Driving with a bad wheel bearing can cause the axle/hub/spindle to weld itself from friction and heat causing the wheel to lock up and spin you out. More likely, the metal will wear away from the friction and the wheel/hub will become loose. If the affected wheel has a disc brake, the brake caliper and rotor might hold the wheel onto the axle for a while, but will eventually fail too.I drove a car I had just bought in a different state about 2,000 miles (3,200 Km) to get back home. The front wheel bearings were whining the whole time, but the wheels were still fairly tight (negligible play). One of the first things I ordered upon arriving home was a new set of wheel bearings. If you jack up the vehicle and there is any play (i.e.: slackness or wiggle) in the affected wheel(s), don't drive the vehicle because you might just get overtaken by your own wheel (no longer attached to & supporting the vehicle) while driving down the road. Any play in the wheel could also be caused by worn suspension and/or steering components which should also be replaced PDQ (and a wheel alignment done post repair). Again, this could cause a wheel to come out from under the vehicle and/or point in a different direction and cause you to have a wreck.Get it fixed posthaste.<><

92 civic Wheel fell off while driving. Was it because a loose Lug nut or wheel bearing?

Hey everyone I was driving to work today on the freeway (30 mile commute) and I noticed a wobbly sound in my front left tire. It almost sounded like it was flat but wasn't. IDK how to exactly describe the sound but when my hand was off the steering wheel it would tilt left. Anyway, after I got off work I was driving home and the sound persisted. I decided to rev my engine to see if it would stop but the noise continued regardless. Next thing I knew my front left tire came off and I immediately pulled to the side (Im very thankful no one got hurt). Anyway this whole time I was thinking it was my wheel bearing but the tow truck guy who came to tow my car told me it was probably because my lug nuts were loose. Anywho, I'm home safely now and I went to buy some new lugs and tightened them up and now the sound is completely gone. So my question to you is: is everything safe now? In your opinion is it the Lugs, wheel bearings? perhaps something else? any advice or information would be really appreciated? I think it's ok it's just I'd hate to take it to a mechanic only to pay 100$ for him to tell me nothings wrong or come up with some bs to make a quick $ off me...you know how they are; however, on the flip side not taking it for a checkup might be foolish.

On an off note I did flush the brake system a couple weeks ago and maybe I'm thinking i Didn't tighten the lugs back up enough...I only used a torque wrench to tighten it up as tight as my muscles could go. anywho thanks for reading and I hope you can help me out.

Steering wheel falls off while driving?

I have a 2002 Lancer, and while I was driving the steering wheel literally fell off, I can put it back on and its drives fine but why is this happening? What could possibly be wrong?

How did all lug nuts came loose while driving?

It is always recommended to properly torque the lug nuts but with the new wheels being mag type. We all know that mag wheels will sometimes need to be re tightened after a short spell. Read the recommendations on the manual and it also says to check the tightness of lug nuts shortly after installation. They probably did tighten them correctly but due to temperature and other factors they can and will sometimes come loose. Thank fully this is a rare occasion.

What are some of the things that can happen if I keep driving my car with a broken tie rod?

Tie rods have an adjustment that keeps your tires in alignment. They also provide the link between your steering wheel and the front tires. You turn the wheel, the tire rod pushes the tires left and right.Worn tie rods can cause shaky front wheels, misaligned front tires, imprecise steering, excessively worn tires. A broken tie rod would allow one tire to flop to the side causing instant loss of steering and a crash if you are going fast enough.A least, you will be wearing out your tires much faster than you should. You will be replacing those tires sooner than later. At most, a worn tie rod could cause an accident because your steering isn’t accurate. If you are still driving your car, you don’t have a broken tie rod. You may have severely worn tie rods if your front tires are wearing unevenly (can be caused by a poor alignment as well), aligning the front end doesn’t fix your tire wear problem, or your steering wheel wobbles while you drive. They aren’t that expensive to replace and much less expensive than adding a new set of tires to that cost or an accident.

Broken wheel bearing. Safe to drive?

It's a crap-shoot. Long as you haven't been driving LONG on the noisy bearing, you should be ok. You COULD take the little grease cover off the axle hub, and shoot some more grease or oil in there, to give it some extra lube and a safety margin. Or, take your chances.

Whether it's safe to drive depends on how long it's been making noise, does the wheel "grab" occasionally when it's moving, like you feel the car lurch, or is it just noisy? If you feel it start to lurch, then you need to stop the vehicle IMMEDIATELY, or sooner, before it breaks. Long as it's just noise, you may get away with it. Good luck,

How long before loose lug nuts fall off?

I had my tires replaced about 2,000 miles ago. Recently, I lost two nuts on my right front wheel and the wheel nearly came off. I assumed that the mechanic didn't tighten the nuts properly. My mechanic is saying that if he hadn't tighten the nuts properly, it would have come off long before 2,000 miles, and that there must have been another cause.

Can someone with mechanical knowledge clarify if that is possible/feasible?

Could a ball bearing be loose? Or is it my tires or something else?

I have a 1991 Honda Accord and when I drive between 30-40 mph I hear a "Thump Thump" noise that sounds like it is coming from my rear left tire. The thumping gets louder as it gets closer to 40 mph. I think it might also be present past 40, but usually there's other noises that might block it out. I know that the rear tires are not new, I bought the car used almost a year ago and the person I bought from said they were "newer" tires, but not brand new. Also, I noticed when someone else was driving my car that the rear left tire seems to wobble a little bit. Is this just something wrong with the tire, or is it the ball bearing? I took my car not too long ago to a Brakes Plus and they mentioned something about one of my ball bearings being loose. At that point, I didn't hear the noise. Anyone have any idea what this might be? Also, (if you know) what might such a repair cost? Is it still safe to drive?

I BOUGHT A USED CAR YESTERDAY AND TODAY THE FRONT WHEEL FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING. CAN I GET MY MONEY BACK?

Was it purchased from a dealership or a private seller? If a dealership, did it come with a warranty or was it sold "as is". If it was sold to you without a warranty you will not have any recourse. Any existing problems would be your responsibility as soon has you drove it off the lot.

On clarification on lemon laws. Yes, the do apply to new cars. However, most states have lemon laws on used automobiles as well. The lemon law would only apply if the seller knowingly sold you a vehicle with problems. However, you would have to prove the seller was aware of the problem at the time of the sale. This is extremely difficult to prove.

Why does my skateboard truck nut become so loose it falls off? Read please.?

Heres the story I had Thunders Lows 147 and my friend traded me with some brand new Magnesium 147 Lows. But he lost one nut and im not talking about the nut to loosen or tighten the trucks but the nuts on the side that holds the wheels in. So I used my other nut from my Thunders and there a bit loose. I tightened to the point where the wheel can't even move because its so tight so I loosened it up so the wheel can move like normal but it kinda is loose as to where I can take it out with my fingers. Anyways I decided to test it so I went down a hill and nothing happened the nut didn't fall off. But tomorrow I'm skating th ewhole day so I don't want to ruin my day with my wheels fallin off. Someone told me the plastic thing in the nut keeps it on. Do you think it'll stay on? I think it will but I want to make sure so I don't faceplant into the ground when a wheel falls off...
thanks in advance....
