99 Grand Am Making Noise And Vibrating

Should I use synthetic oil in my 2006 grand prix gt?

Absolutely. Full synthetic Mobil1 5W-30 pours at -47 below 0 Farenheit. Considering that 80% of engine wear occurs during cold starts it's to your oil pumps advantage to force the greatest *volume of oil to frictional surfaces quickly.

Synthetic oil is much more fluid at low temperatures than regular oil. It has a great detergent package as well as EP (extreme pressure) and anti-oxidation properties.

Check your handbook in the glove compartment for the proper oil viscosity for your car. I pulled 5W-30 off the mobil oil help website. Older (1999) 3800 Buick engines in Pontiac Grand Prix cars (mine) call for the use of 10W-30 in supercharged and naturally aspirated motors. In my Pontiac handbook it says to use 5W-30 when temperatures drop below 32 F.

I recently switched from regular Quakerstate 10W-30 in my 99 Pontiac GP to Kendall full synthetic as the local hardware store runs terrific specials a few time a year for $3.50 per quart! I bought this car from my sister because it had only 62,000 miles and the body (red) is perfect and it's always been taken car of.

My car is making a clicking sound when I turn.?

Your CV joints need to be replaced - They can be taken apart and repacked if nothing is broken or chipped, but with the cost of labour it is generally cheaper just to change the whole shaft.
I don't believe the joints can slip. If they slip the balls inside are broken and you will not go anywhere. Contrary to popular belief you can drive a long while with them if the boot is not broken and they are still full of grease. We live up north and the cold used to cause the boots to break, and we used to drive around town until they were changed in the spring. They were a bit noisy, but never broke.
Took about 3/4 hr a side to change the complete shaft.

Clicking/plucking sound/vibration when turning steering wheel at slow speeds?

I have a sound/vibration coming from my car when I turn at low speeds. The sound is more noticeable when backing out of a space or maneuvering out of a space. It seems like it is related to the steering assembly in some way. To clarify the sound, it sounds like loud plucking or clicking with vibration if I turn left or right. The car is a 1999 grand am gt. Sound goes away after 10 mph or so

I hit a curb and my car is making a popping sound when i turn, what might be wrong?

It could be a combination of your front strut and alignment. My wife hit a log on an entrance ramp and it made a similar sound. We had the strut fixed, alignment adjusted and bought two rims for $900.

How do you fix the shaking of the front end of the car?

Shaking of the front end is either wheels out of balance or something loose. So start out looking for WHEN it occurs. If it is at high speed, but never at low speed, you might suspect the wheel/tire balance first. But if it is at lower speeds, and particularly if your definition of “shaking” is like mine, I'd say you have wear in the suspension/steering parts, or possibly just out of alignment (like the supermarket carts with the wobbly wheel since it has been bent under a bit). Take the weight off the front end with a lift or jack stands (never get under a car on the jack) and shake different parts to find the one that moves, and take a bar or something to see whether the wheels will move up and down from loose or worn bearings. All of this s something a tire shop would be good at pin-pointing, as they normally have the equipment and knowledge. But the longer you wait, the higher the bill will be in the end, as the forces will wear out other parts. You may need a simple pitman or idle arm bushing that costs $10, but the forces of the wobbling can damage $500 wheel bearings or $200 ball joints.

How to make my pontiac grand prix gt louder?

Depending on where you live, you can just do straight pipe and eliminate your resonator and mufflers all together, go on youtube you'll find lots of videos of different setups. Its amazing what just removing your resonators will do to the GP. if you got some cash, get an aggressive cam after you do the resonator delete and you can get a SEXY gargle :)

Heres a vid I just found of a GP stock exhaust. The mods he has wont change the sound at all:

heres vid of GT with straight pipe (as I mentioned) no resonator no muffler:

98 expedition rattling under front end?

98 Ford Expedition 4.6 L.
Recently I was hearing a rattle which looks like it was coming from the front end of the car. I can hear it a little more when the AC is on, and can hear it lower when it's off.
It has 182,000 miles on it. Is it possible this is just an AC clutch? I plan to replace the belts, and if I can, I can get something to fix it while I have the belt off the SUV.

Why is my car shaking and the check engine light flashing?

A shaking vehicle AND flashing MIL ("check engine light") sound like the vehicle is misfiring on at least one cylinder. As @Anna Nguyen, @Brendan Sinclair, @Antoun Nabhan and others have said, it could be an ignition related problem. It could also be fuel-related. If one or more fuel injectors are clogged or dead, that would also cause a misfire in the affected cylinder(s). These are relatively cheap/easy things to check and fix.Other causes (which could be more complicated and more expensive) to fix include contaminated fuel, a bent intake or exhaust valve, a broken valve spring, a damaged piston/connecting rod, and on and on.I recommend getting a scan tool and checking the codes which are causing the MIL to light/flash and I also strongly recommend NOT driving the vehicle until the problem is fixed. If you continue to drive the vehicle as is, you will exacerbate the problem. Dumping unburned fuel into the exhaust due to a misfire will overheat and kill your catalytic converter. A more serious problem like a bent valve can eventually cause you to crater your engine (i.e.: completely destroy the engine).

Why do cars make more noise when the AC is turned on?

We have extremely few mechanical devices that operate without making sounds. When they are not functioning, there generally will be no sound created by them.Once you activate them, sound will be produced. To a few, the sound of a well designed device will be “the sound of music” or elicit a comment about how the sonics produced are “a heavenly sound.” To others, the same sound is just noise.Besides the sound sources mentioned in the previous answer, there is the sound generated by the refrigerant flowing through the evaporator. You can turn off the engine and expect total silence, but then detect the gurgling noise produced by the refrigerant as it begins to evaporate in the lines and heat exchanger. The pressure produced by the compressor is being equalized between the liquid high pressure side and the vapor low pressure side of the evaporator. The air conditioner can be off but will continue make these sounds for just a few seconds on up to a minute or so.Sounds are the result of activating the equipment in the air conditioner system. If you wanted to know what is the exact source of the sounds, then I think this and the other answers have provided you with that data.Have a great day!
