How did parents have intercourse in the 1800s when houses were so small and non-soundproof?
Keep in mind that in many cultures, parents continue reproducing while sharing a small home with children. The idea that everyone gets their own soundproof room is very western (and as far as I know, very American). My husband and I share a room with our toddler son. When we want to have sex, we wait until he is being watched by his grandmother or is at daycare and then we make a point of finding a place and engaging in sex. Sometimes it takes more planning and waiting. Sometimes it can be just as spontaneous. Sex is not regulated to a night time, bed time activity. Also, keep in mind that people back then did not have the technology that makes it more likely that someone will be up all of the time... sleeping is easier to regulate without the screen light that we all see, so I am guessing that there were a nice few hours after putting the kids to bed when they could freely engage in sex without thinking about waking others. Also, there used to be the habit of waking in the middle of the night and doing quiet activities... I assume one of those quiet activities was probably finding a place to have sex.

My 5yo step-daughter humps things until she is dripping with sweat. Is this normal?
My step-daughter has discovered that humping is "fun" and that "she just likes it" and I am just not sure how to handle it. I know that this is a part of growing up and learning about your body, but it just feels like a kick in the gut when i walk in on it. Here's the hard part. Her mom just tells her to go in her room and shut her door to "bounce" and her dad (my husband) will wait for her to finish "bouncing" when he goes to pick her up. which can usually take up to 30 minutes. I understand that you shouldn't shame a child or tell them that what they are doing is WRONG or dirty, but sheesh people. Should we just give her the ok to hump to her hearts content? I walked in on her Sunday and she was "bouncing" on one of her favorite stuffed animals. She had it flipped over (like normal sex position) and was holding it's long, fluffy arms up, over it's head and was going to town on this thing. I mean in a way that a woman would do to a man. It was SHOCKING! When she saw me she stopped and kind of grinned. I asked what she was doing in her room all alone and she said "bouncing on my teddy bear" I stayed very calm and didn't act like anything was wrong and just said "are you playing a game with your bear?" she said "not really" I said "well why are you doing it?" and she said "I like it". I asked why? She said "I dunno". So I just asked her to come downstairs and play with the family and after lots of hesitation, she did. I understand kids feeling themselves, rocking back and forth or rubbing up against things and stuff like that. But MAN, she is taking this to a whole new level. I have 2 kids of my own and she has a brother. So there are 3 other kids in the house, all older. My daughter and son never went through a humping phase, so it's not something that I know how to handle. My husband and his ex deal with this differently than I would as the parent. If she's doing it in the living room, they basically just say, "go finish in your room". Is that the proper response to have in this case? Do you want to tell them to go finish masturbating? Help me understand what I should do in this situation. Another question...is it possible that she has figured out how to climax at such a young age? But since they live five hours away, I only do this a few times a year.On a normal weekend at home with no plans, I have a routine that I like:First, I like to wake up without an alarm clock.My weekday alarm is set for 5:45 am, so this might be my favorite part of the weekend.It’s a great feeling waking up naturally knowing that I got the exact amount of sleep my body needed.After I wake up, I'll do some strength training at home or go for a run.When I'm feeling good, I run a 6-mile route that goes from my house to the local shopping center and back.I prefer to do my longer morning runs on the weekends because I have more time.After that, I go to the Starbucks by my house.I’ll order a coffee, find a table to myself in the back corner, and write on my laptop for a couple of hours.This is usually when I crank out an answer or two on Quora.That takes me to around noon, at which point I like to eat lunch with my wife and spend the afternoon relaxing.I don't spend much time watching TV, but I do enjoy watching some sports.My wife likes to watch her college football team (Iowa Hawkeyes) so we'll usually do that during football season. Immigrants to America, especially during the industrial era, came from countries where regardless of their work and effort, they were still starving and poor. The idea of the American Dream is that you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor. That in America, anyone can own property, start a business, educate their children, etc. If you work hard and want it bad enough, you can rise higher and higher. Whether that means having all the things you mentioned, or just having a decent home and taking a vacation once in a while without having to file bankruptcy in the process.
