Question about vets/dogs?

ALL vets in the US should be following the current protocol as set by all 27 vet schools and the AAHA, but unfortunately some still turn a blind eye and continue to overvacciante and owners continue to fall for the "yearly" vaccination..it is unfortunate sincet his puts pets at risk for immune issues, cancers, severe reactions..Owners need to become better informed and be proactive in their pets care.

Many vaccines that some vets have peopel give yearly (or even at all) are not even recommended for all dogs..Lepto, Lymes & Kennel Cough are 3 of these..they should only be given to those at high risk of exposure and even then Lepto should only be given after very, very careful consideration espcailly in toy breeds, Great Danes, Greyhounds, Dobermans & their mixes as well as some other breeds. Kennel cough is a pretty much worthless vaccine..it doesn't prevent your dog from getting KC and it also doesn't even "help" on more then 2-3 strains out of 32.

Giardia and Coronavirus are NOT recommended for any dog/puppy at any time and should not ever be given.

Distemper/Parvo should not be given any more often then every 3 years and even that is too often..study after study has proven once the 1 year booster is given it is good for the life of the dog.
Rabies shouldn't be given more then every 3 years, however unfortunately some states still require it yearly .

People really need to learn more about appropriate vaccinating instead of just blindly following along.

A question about PTSD and World War vets?

I did my research as soon i read your additional detail section. That was kind of harsh. Shell shock is now referred to as combat stress reaction. Back in WWI is when doctors started noting what they called shell shock. WWI boasted a 51 percent casulty rate for all soldiers and 10 percent were KIA'd. Trench-warfare was horrible and the soldiers were in a stalemate. They would be shelled months on end without relief on the front lines. When taken out of this environment for R and R, soldier could not get used to calmness and peace. They were often disoriented because they had been on an adrenaline rush for months on end. All the forces viewed this as being cowardly. This was the first war with death on such a huge scale. The leading officers were experienced traditional soldiers.
They never experienced this type of warfare where people would get mowed down by machine guns and were often unsympathetic. Look up the battle of the Somme. Its amazing that they suffered 50,000 allied casualties in a day.

In WWII, officers classified this as just battle fatigue and General Patton actually slapped a soldier because he thought he was a coward. Treatments ranged from isolating a soldier and providing counseling. They would then be sent back to the front to fight. Those beyond help, were often discharged. They eventually got over it. Substance abuse was hight for both this war and WWI

Wars like Vietnam provided continuous stress because it was guerilla war and even if you were on R and R, you still could count on an attack from the VC or NVA. This is how PTSD develops from shell shock.

I hope this was good enough and read your question right.

Vets, a little help please on a question?

Not certain of this, but have heard and also saw it mentioned once on a TV documentary.
It appears he was given "special privileges" regarding weekend passes, usually 4 days instead of 2 to spend time with his girlfriend.

He was often jokingly referred to as being AWOL on these weekends off. Hence, "going Elvis" is thought to mean a person getting special attention and a lot of extra time off.

Dog License/shot/vet question?

Here's what you do.. You vow to quit being so darned lazy.. Then you call the vet, make the appointment and tell them that he hasn't had shots since such and such a date. They will give him his shots so that he is current. You get him neutered, so that the license will be cheaper. And sometimes even dogs that are microchipped are cheaper to license..
Then you take that to the licensing office and you hand it to the lady at the counter, you pay for your license. You put your rabies tag and your license tag on your dog's collar. You go home and you take the receipt for the shots and stick it on the monitor of your computer.. In one year, if the vet doesn't send you a reminder notice.. You call and make an appointment and get his vaccinations done again.

When you don't vaccinate your dog, you risk his life, not only that but you risk other dog's lives because your dog could be carrying a disease. Not fair to other dogs to get sick just cause you didn't do what is required of you? You won't get into trouble, they would rather you be in there doing the right thing than to be busting people for being lazy.

Where can you ask a vet questions online for free?

A veterinarian, by law is not able to make a diagnosis, any recommendations, or prescribe medications without actually seeing your pet. It is required by law that a veterinarian have a doctor patient client relationship. Only after a veterinarian has placed their hands on a pet and done a physical exam, can a veterinarian actually make a diagnosis, and then make appropriate recommendations for testing, screening, medications and thus I give you advice on what to do with your pet. It in no other way shape form or fashion Will you get free veterinary advice on the Internet. It is very wise for you to have a doctor patient client relationship with a veterinarian if you're picking for your pet if you have a veterinarian that you say with your pet, often times you may call in and ask them questions. They will tell you based on what they know about your animal and your capabilities what you can try before bringing your pet in.Your pet depends on you for a healthy long life. if you are not wise enough to consult a veterinarian, your pet will be the one to suffer. Therefore I strongly recommend that you establish a doctor client pet relationship and then realize that you get lots of free veterinary advice, services, and recommendations quite regularly when you have a relationship established with a veterinarian. To ask anyone else is just a poor choice. And no veterinarian will risk their license that they spent $1 million earning, risk a $12 million clinic they built, no better Darien more risk that to give you free advice on the Internet, by phone or on the street without having examined your pet first.PLease do your best to be a responsible pet owner! It matters!

Rabbit sickness question? Vets help!?!?!? please?

Sounds like shock. Rabbits are timid little creatures, they get frightened very easily and go into shock. We used to have a pet rabbit that got scared by a barking dog getting too close. The rabbit made growling noises and hyperventilated, then it went stiff like you are describing, and its heart rate slowed and it wouldn't move. It was like this for two hours, we thought it was going to die. Leave the rabbits alone for a couple of hours. They sound like wild rabbits and they are probably afraid of humans. If they are wild, you shouldn't keep them for pets. If you are keeping them because they are injured and you are looking out for them, you might want to take them to the vet.

Is it ok to call a vet just to ask them a simple question?

Yes, it is definitely ok to call a vet and ask questions. However, understand that there are some legal limits to what a vet can tell you especially if you are not a current client. Vets are required by law to have a doctor-client-patient relationship and to have reasonable knowledge of the pet you are calling about before they can give specific information. This is why it is so common to have a vet say "we really need to see him".

If this is your regular vet who treats your pets, then you shouldn't have a problem getting an answer about the advisability of giving tapeworm meds to all your pets since you found tapeworm segments on one pet.

How much are vets paid?

Veterinarians earn between $51,481 - $112,889 a year or $13.17 - $69.53 an hour.Source:Veterinarian Salary

I watched the movie Forrest Gump (again) and have a question for any Vietnam vets out there. Gump (Tom Hanks) said that when it wasn't raining, or he wasn't getting shot at…it was a nice place. How true is that?

This is timely to me because I just “Outed” another “Vietnam vet”.In 1995, I moved to the Midwest or actually the North Middle. I had owned a tuxedo shop in Santa Rosa CA. And because of a woman ,long gone. I moved to Wisconsin. Now, I had heard many stories before I came here, and they were mostly “Oh I met Robin Williams today”. All along those lines. And I gotta tell you, they were mostly true. In my 34 years of living in Marin County. I ran into celebrities all the time. Hell I went to school with sons and daughters of huge stars and also people that would become celebrities. I ate hot dogs with Jerry Garcia.By now you’re wondering how this answers the question.Hang with me for a second more.So I started a factory. Flo-safe with my friend Patrick. In Lake Geneva WI. Sorry but I have a pet peeve about people that won’t name names in their stories.Anyway, we poached workers from the other factories and one day a girl comes up to me and says “Do not ever wake up “Ron” if he naps on break”. “He could kill you”. He was in Nam.I had not heard “Nam” stories since 1977 ( trust me we will get there)So I decided to talk to the guy. OMG how he did go on. Hand to hand combat, Charlie, nightmares ect.Except, before I talked to him I had noted that he was 14 when the war ended. I said “The war ended in 73 bud”. He then proceeded to tell me that the war ended in 75 and he got in by lying about his age.Now 24 years later, I have heard that same exact story (Don’t wake him up. I was lying about my age. MY FAVORITE we were on a secret mission in 81 in Nam. At least 100 times. Why these guys want to act like they were in the war, I really don’t get.Now to answer the question. In 1977 I moved to San Bernadino CA. March Airbase is there. I met a lot of older guys that had actually been in the war. They had pictures and all kinds of stories. I only lived there for 1 year ( I missed NoCal) but we played poker on Fridays. ALL the stories were about how cheap drugs were and how cheap everything was. No charlie. no Lt. Dan. They had only fired a gun in basic. I’m not saying that guys didn’t die. Just not everyone that went there was a jungle fighter.
