A Simple Question - How Does Scratching Out Cvv No. Behind Credit/debit Help

As a safety precaution, is it advisable to scratch off the CVV on your credit card?

YES! SCRATCH THE STUPID NUMBER OFF OF THERE! We're always warned, and rightfully so, to NEVER write your PIN on your atm card, and it's obvious to everybody why, BUT, then they turn around and print the CVV on your card like somehow THIS secret code IS okay for anybody to see! Even if it's technically not identical to a pin, it does pose the same kind of security risk as a PIN.When that number becomes important to remember, then people will start remembering it. And there's plenty of ways to write it down somewhere else where YOU know where it is.  You hand your card to the air conditioning repair guy, they turn it over to "look at your signature" and they have your security code! "They then go and buy $350 of golf clubs and $400 at a computer store. Sure, the card company eats the cost up front, we all pay for it down the line, and now I don't have that card to use till they send me a new one. And again with the code written on the back.I'm just completely stunned that putting the number on the card is done at all and that keeping it on there is even being contemplated.

How does a hotel charge my credit card just from the 16-digit number?

The short answer is that they really only need your 16-digit card number to initiate a charge. That, plus the form you filled out specifying the amount and your signature authorizing the charge should be sufficient to process a payment. The hotel has a relationship with a bank and/or payment processor which can take that 16-digit card number and route it to the appropriate network and issuing bank. Note: I'm dramatically oversimplifying things for ease of explanation. Note: the hotel shouldn't ask you to write down your CVV on a form you're submitting to them, as payment card security rules dictate that CVVs should not be stored by merchants (or other parties), and must be destroyed after use (e.g. transmission in a transaction). That being said, the risk profile and fees charged to a merchant (in this case the hotel) can vary significantly based on how much information they provide the payment processor. If all they have is a name and card number on a piece of paper, the hotel would likely be on the hook for fraud (e.g. if the card were stolen and misused). That said, however, the hotel is unlikely to render you service or let you stay there once you arrive without physical proof of payment and your ID. At that point, they will probably swipe or dip your card and more information (e.g. CVV, cryptogram, expiration date, etc.) will be sent along with the authorization request.I'm guessing the hotel requested the card number and your signature in advance of your arrival? If so, that's likely just a precaution to make sure you're serious about booking the room, and to perhaps charge you cancellation fees or other things if you bail on them or break their rules. I suspect that the actual charge won't be submitted until you have showed up in person to stay at the hotel, at which point they will want to see your physical credit card.

How can I get my erased SBI debit card number?

Take a piece of paper and a 2B or bigger pencil, or break the pencil lead and powder it, now place the paper above the card number and gently scribe the pencil over it or rub the lead powder. You should see the card number faintly within the blackened portion of the paper. However I can't guarantee it will work.

There is no CVV number on my central bank debit card, how can I add money to any of my e-wallets?

Yes you can use it online. If there is no cvv number just leave the field empty and proceed the transaction,if it is enabled for online transaction then you will receive a otp in your registered mobile number. And if it didn’t go through then you may contact he bank for enabling it or issue another card that will have the facility.**Please note that one person here have answered as “If there is no CVV number, then you most likely have a ATM card instead of a debit card. Such cards can only be used at ATM’s to withdraw money and not to conduct any online transactions.” This is absolutely wrong.
