Do the lyrics make the song or the music?
There isn’t a right answer to this. Some artists are poets that use music to express their words; some others are musicians that use words to express their music; many of them are both poets and musicians. From the listener’s side, many people focus on words, many others focus on music. Many songs tell the same things with the same words and the same combination, to be easily learnt by the listener. An example, U2 band often compose songs starting by the music: The Edge throws in a guitar riff, or Bono does it using the acoustic guitar, or Larry Mullen with a drum pattern; then Bono starts to sing randomly using meaningless words and after the tune step by step gains a structure, he creates lyrics on it.

What is more important in a song, the music or the lyrics?
For me it’s very rare that the lyrics are more important than the music. “As important” is perhaps more common - but “more important” almost never.Lyrics are an OPTIONAL part of a song. And yep, songs are often built around the lyrics - so we could consider them a vital part of the whole. But what about someone who hears the song but doesn’t speak that language? The music could still, and often does, ‘move’ the listener by communicating feelings and moods and that thing music can do all on it’s own. (The words alone wouldn’t mean much to anyone who doesn’t speak that language.)A couple more thoughts on this:> I can’t understand lots of lyrics yet I still like the song. In fact over the years it’s happened many times where I saw the official lyrics to a song and laughed because I had thought they were something different forever. But that’s never made me stop liking a song.> music without lyrics is music> lyrics without music are just a bunch of words (Potential Lyrics). without “music” there is no SONG- words or no words. to be fair, words without music could be art - poetry or a novel or whatever - but they are not music.> a solo a Capella singer still has the melody. The melody remains with words applied or without. Or with different words. Or in a different language. The words with no melody? It might be called a variety of things - but not music.I have friends that disagree. Which is fine. And I LOVE good lyrics. I’ve spent an enormous amount of time writing lyrics. Words go with music in a very special way that’s unique I think. At least they can. But if the music isn’t good - no one’s going to hear the lyrics anyway. A great song is almost always great music and often includes awesome lyrics - but can also have mediocre lyrics. Or even none at all.
What does people like most in a song: the music, lyrics or both?
For me its the melody of the song which activates emotions in your brain. No matter it has lyrics or not. Very few songs’ lyrics are worth listening or else they distract the listener and finally no one appreciates the melody of the song. I mostly listen to Soundtracks (Movie/Television/Game Soundtracks) or sometimes Orchestral performance to completely enjoy them. Also I listen to Blues, Rap, Classics, Pop, Electronica, Drum n Bass.Melody isn’t the music only, there are a lot of things involved like chords, notes, riffs, progression, pace etc. In simple word a good song with a catchy melody will give you goosebumps. It does!
Can you name a song with the word "fish" in the lyrics?
Fish Out Of Water Song InformationBy: Dolly Parton Original Appearance: Straight Talk Compilations: None Alternate Versions: None I feel so out of place here With this high society These high fallutin' people Don't know what to make of me I feel like a minnow in a sea of Moby ***** A small fry in a big pan They're caviar -- I'm fish sticks Fish out of water I know I don't belong Fish out of water Everything I do is wrong My style of hair, the clothes I wear The way I speak, the things I eat The way I act, my lack of tact Nothin' seems to fit Fish out of water Flounderin' round Out of my element But I'm just as good as they are Why do I feel second rate It's like, "Sorry Charlie, We want only tuna with good taste" I guess you could say Wal-Mart Is quite a way from Gucci's I'm Timex, they're Rolex I'm Captain D's, they're sushi Fish out of water I've had it to the gills Fish out of water With these yuppie-guppie frills Yeah, I'm a square in a round hole A catfish in a goldfish bowl A little fish with lots of soul Out of my element Fish out of water Flounderin' round just for the Halibut Save me, save me S.O.S. somebody Save me, save me Somebody rescue me Fish out of water Somebody throw me in Fish out of water On a scale of one to ten I'm a two, perhaps a three Compared to the big fish in the sea I'm washed ashore so save me please I'm in an awful fix Fish out of water Rescue me And you better do it quick Fish out of water It's such a culture shock Fish out of water My stomach's tied in knots Fish out of water Fish out of water

Does anyone know the lyrics to a song from the late 60s that has the refrain "two hangmen hangin from a tree"
Two Hangmen by Mason Proffit As I rode into Tombstone on my horse whose name was Mac I saw what I'll relate to you goin' on behind my back It seems the folks were up in arms a man now had to die For believin' things that didn't fit the laws they'd set aside The man's name was I'm a freak the best that I could see He was the executioner a hangman just like me I guess that he'd seen loopholes from workin' with his rope He'd hung the wrong man many times so now he turned to hope He'd talk to all the people from his scaffold in the square He told them of the things he found; But they didn't seem to care He said the laws were obsolete, a change they should demand But the people only walked away, he couldn't understand The Marshall's name was Uncle Sam he said he'd right this wrong He'd make the hangman shut his mouth if it took him all year long He finally arrested Freak and then he sent for me To hang a fellow hangman from a fellow hangman's tree It didn't take them long to try him in their court of law He was guilty then of thinking a crime much worse than all They sentenced him to die so his seed of thought can't spread And infect the little children; that's what the law had said So the hangin' day came 'round and he walked up to the noose I pulled the lever but before he fell I cut him loose They called it all conspiracy and that I had to die So to close our mouths and kill our minds they hung us side by side And now we're two hangmen hangin' from a tree That don't bother me at all Two hangmen hangin' from a tree That don't bother me at all
