Why is my laptop so slow all of a sudden?

Problems like this are almost always due to software and not hardware.

Never reformat your hard drive if you have the option to restore it to factory condition. You will have the correct drivers and you will not have to reload programs that came preinstalled. Before you do this install and print out a scan by Belarc Advisor. It will have the product keys for some of the software installed on your computer.

I suspect 2 main problems- too many programs in the Startup group which run every time you boot the computer and not enough free space on your hard drive. Other possibilities are malware (I assume you are running an up to date anti-virus) and not enough RAM.

Run CCleaner and also in the Tools, Startup area, disable programs which do not need to run every time you start the computer. This does not uninstall, it just stops them from running all the time and only when you open them. Also run Malwarebytes to check for malware.

Press Win key-E and on the left side of the dialog bog right click on the C drive and select Properties. This will show you how much free space you have. At least 10% and better 20% of your hard drive should be unused.

If IE or Firefox is very slow opening pages, go to Help and select "Start without add-ons" and see if this speeds things up. If it does, go to Tools, Manage Add-ons and disable add-ons until things speedup. Uninstall browser toolbars and search engines that you do not use. Simply not using them is not enough.

EDIT: I have never seen Malwarebytes screw up a computer. What I have seen screw things up is the use of an overly aggressive registry editor (sometimes called an optimizer. I would never use any reg editor other than the one in CCleaner.

Issues w my ASUS Gaming Laptop?

I have an ASUS G751 I believe and I turned on my computer and all the sudden it's on a black screen that says: Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key.

I have an issue with my laptop battery.?

My Sony Vaio VPCFI36FM battery suddenly become unable to charge, and then a message popped up saying " Your battery health status is poor". And then the computer died out. and when I took the battery out I was able to turn it on through the power supply only. When I tried to put the battery back while it's on power the computer dies Instantly. Then I decided to buy a new battery. Now I have the new one. But it didn't fix my problem 100%. I plugged the new battery in and the icon doesn't say it is charging. Instead, it shows how much remaining. But the good thing is: 1- the computer didn't die as before and 2- the battery remains at the same charging power at 32%... no more no less. I didn't want to uninstall the "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" and take out the battery and put it back in because I thought this might be a risky step.... Pleas help

My laptop suddenly has no sound. Are there any suggestions on how to fix the problem?

There could be one or more reasons for no sound. For more clarification, you need to answer some of my queries.Make sure your speakers aren't dead! Try going to speaker properties and troubleshoot and then play the test sound.Make sure your audio driver is not corrupted. See for any exclamation mark on the taskbar on the volume icon.Make sure you do not have dual drivers installed for your speakers. Go to device manager to check that.It happens, sometimes, everytimes, volume of the system is set to 0 (very irritating). The file you are trying to test speakers with, is not corrupted!Try finding solution to these common problems and please let me know what and where went wrong.

Why does my laptop suddenly get power off, even though there is no such heating issue?

I faced similar problem with my Toshiba laptop. The battery was 24% and still laptop powered out suddenly and stopped working. After connecting the charger and switching it on i could turn the laptop on again.I ran trouble shoot and updated the windows, now the problem seems solved. At-least one of the things worked in my case.

What are reasons for a laptop to suddenly shut off?

All of the reasons?Bad battery.  Considering that a laptop battery is made up of smaller, individual batteries... it is actually not uncommon for one or more of the small batteries inside to go bad.  This can have the effect of the laptop appearing to have more of a usable charge than it actually has... your laptop is humming along like normal on battery, shows it has maybe 18% charge or so left... and then it just dies.Overheating.  If the cooling channel isn't cleaned properly every few months or so, dust can build up between the fan and the heat sink at the end of the cooling pipes from the processor pad.  This would mean the fan can't push air through the heat sink, which makes is so the processor cannot shed heat... and the laptop overheats and shuts off.Bad DJ jack connection.  This one would typically be seen in conjunction with a laptop battery that won't hold a charge... otherwise if the laptop has a good battery, you might not notice the laptop switching randomly between being connected to the charger and being on battery alone.  When the battery won't hold a charge, a bad connection at the DC power jack would cause the laptop to just turn off if the laptop itself was moved, or the cable was touched.Bad Capacitor.  Although laptops use solid state capacitors which are harder to damage, one or more blown capacitors could make a laptop turn off suddenly.  I'm not saying it would be when it was blown... I'm saying that after being blown, it could cause variations in voltage levels and unpredictability that can often take the form of the laptop just turning off.Damaged component on the motherboard.  Any number of components can and could go bad on a motherboard, causing the unit to turn off.  Typically however, something like this would result in the laptop not turning back on again. That isn't a comprehensive list, but that's a good start.I doubt it answers your question, however... since I am positive this is a WIMI (What I Mean Is) question.  As to what would cause YOUR laptop to suddenly turn off... I have no idea.

My laptop has suddenly started doing this strange thing where the screen gets covered in static (like TV static). Does anyone know what this is a symptom of?

Before u start checking the mobo and display, try a simple step to eliminate RAM issues. As a faulty RAM can to display similar traits. And RAM is comparatively simpler to check. Open the laptop bottom case and remove both RAM modules. Then put one back in the first slot and try to replicate the issue. Then try it with the second slot. And then try the other RAM on both slots individually. This will help you eliminate RAM issues.Once you have eliminated RAM issues, try eliminating display. Connect you laptop to an external monitor or TV and try to replicate the issue. If it works fine on external display, it's an issue with the display or connection. Else, motherboard.

Why is my laptop slow?

There are some excellent suggestions here, so I thought why not give my two cents on the matter too.Step 1: Right-click on your taskbar.Step 2: Click on “Task Manager”Step 3: Click on the “Processes” Tab in the Task manager windowYou now have complete information of what is going on in your system right in front of your eyes. Foreground, and Background as well. Pay attention to the three columns: CPU, Memory, and Disk. When in Idle state, your CPU should be at around <10%, and Disk at <5% usage. Memory usage heavily depends on how much total you have in the first place. Right at this moment, My laptop that i’m using to write this answer, has a total of 4GB of DDR3L which is currently 80% occupied as I have 3 chrome tabs running and a file explorer window along with some background apps. Also, It is advised to check to make sure your “Power Plan” setting is set to “High Performance” (This setting is available in the control panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options ) since that can also slow down your laptop.
