Adding A College After Submitting Fafsa

Adding a college after submitting FAFSA?

Yes, the date you added the school and re-submitted the FAFSA would be the date that school would show as your FAFSA submission date (opposed to your other schools which were on the original January 02, 2014 submissions date).

Hopefully the school you added will still have grant/scholarship funds available when awarding you a financial aid package. If not, don't fear. As students are deciding on which college they are choosing, funding will be re-allocated for the awards the students will be cancelling if they are choosing a different school or funding may be allocated if students are not enrolled full-time and a portion of their initial awards are decreased/cancelled. In these situations, the schools will generate a list of students to award based on their financial need and when their FAFSA was submitted.

Best of luck!

Can I make changes after submitting my FAFSA?

Yep! It's really simple too. You just go to the FAFSA webpage(http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/), log in and select "Make Corrections to a Processed FAFSA" under FAFSA Follow-Up, then follow the page until you find your parent's tax section and edit it.

Your FAFSA will then be processed again and you will have a different EFC (estimated family contribution) based on their updated tax information and you will most likely qualify for additional aid.

Good luck! :)

What if you submit your FAFSA late (just before a college semester starts)?

You will still get your federal entitlements - up to $5,920 Pell Grant, depending on eligibility (low income) and Federal Direct Loan of $5,500. But you have likely missed deadlines for any school aid you might have been eligible for.

How many years will FAFSA supply financial aid for college tuition?

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to apply for financial aid from the federal government, state governments and most colleges and universities. The federal aid is subject to a 150% timeframe restriction, which limits it to no more than 150% of the normal timeframe to obtain a degree, such as 3 years for a 2-year degree and 6 years for a 4-year degree. However, there are ways around this restriction, such as switching degree programs (e.g., from an Associate's degree program to a Bachelor's degree program).

Can I make a correction to my FAFSA after being submitted?

Yes you can. You can also log into your FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid account to make a correction or update. In addition, if you are already in the process of enrolling in-school, you can meet with your financial aid advisor and ask them to help you make an adjustment for you. When you go to the online site, you will have the ability to choose if you are a New or a Returning User. For corrections or updates, you want to login as Returning User.Once you make the change, it will take 3–5 days for the change to process. For more information please see FAFSA Edits - Corrections, Updates, and Adjustments | Edvisors.

If you submit a FAFSA and not the CSS can you still get financial aid?

If you’re applying to a school that requires the CSS Profile but you only submit the FAFSA: Yes, you should still be able to receive financial aid from the federal government and some state programs. Eligibility for the Pell Grant, for example, is determined solely through the FAFSA without reference to information in the CSS Profile. But if a school requires the CSS Profile and you do not submit it, you won’t be considered for scholarships or aid that are funded by the college itself.Only a small number of private colleges in the United States require students to submit a CSS Profile and a FAFSA for financial aid. Many of these colleges have considerable private resources that they use for need- and merit-based scholarships for students each year. For that reason, if you qualify for a federal grant (Pell Grant or FSEOG) then the chances of qualifying for a scholarship or grant from the college are high and if you don’t fill out the CSS Profile for that school, you may miss out.Bottom line:Filling out the FAFSA is something that every college student should do. It’s the necessary application for hundreds of aid programs around the country. But it’s not the only step a student or parent should take in order to avoid leaving money on the table.Over 100 state-based aid programs require additional application steps (such as creating a state student account or submitting a PDF).To know which are the programs you qualify for that require additional applications takes some work. Dealing with financial aid offices can be a challenge. Help is available to make sure you get all the aid possible through financial aid application tools like the one I built, called Mos.com. Good luck!

Can I add another college onto my fafsa after I received financial aid and started classes?

Yes. You can add a college to your FAFSA at any time, even in the middle of the academic year. Just login to the FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid web site with your FSA ID. If you already have 10 colleges listed, you’ll need to delete one to add the new one. This is what you’d do if you were planning on transferring to another college mid-year or if you wanted to enroll in the summer session at a different college (e.g., a community college).Note that some forms of financial aid, such as the Federal Pell Grant, can be received at only one school at a time.

Can I add/delete a school on Fafsa?
