Advice For A Degree In Criminal Justice With A Concentration In Homeland Security

Would you recommend American Public University online for me?

I have the unique perspective of having gone to a traditional school (SDSU), a hybrid school (National University) and currently enrolled at American Public University (Masters-Criminal Justice). From my experience, I have found APU to be an excellent choice of schools. The instructors I have had are great and very proficient in their field. You do not have to worry about having instructors who have no real-world experiences to draw from when teaching.
At SDSU, I found that the instructors were academics and taught based solely on theory, with no practical experience. At National, courses are taught both in school and online. All of my classes I took there were on line. The instructors were good but I found the shortened course length did not allow for a lot of discussion. Like APU, the instructors have practical, real-world experiences and application to draw from. With APU I feel that the 8 week course length allows for actual learning and understanding of the topics. The courses are well put together using solid technology and current topics/texts. I highly recommend going to APU for an degree from Associate's through Masters.

How does someone combine public relations with a law degree?

I'm an undergraduate studying political science and communications with a concentration in public relations. I've got loans to pay off and I've always wanted to go to law school but I really love what I'm doing with public relations and think that I would be good at it. For someone who graduates with degrees in political science and communications and then goes to law school (but works in between to pay off undergrad loans), are there any lucrative or specialized jobs that could utilize a traditional law degree AND public relations expertise?

Or am I better off just picking and choosing between one or the other? I'm kind of confused and I'm trying to plan my future so that my education will let me accomplish my goals of getting a good job. Thanks to anyone in advance for helping me with my question.

What is the difference between criminal justice and homeland security? What jobs can I get?

Well, first let’s clear up a little confusion here. Criminal Justice is a field, not a particular job or department. It’s like some saying “I’m in medicine”.  Well? What exactly do you do?  You can be a pediatrician, a dentist, a physical therapist, a pharmacist, a nurse, a surgical tech, or an oncologist.Simply put,  criminal justice is any job or career that it tied, however loosely, to a court of law. This could be a Police Officer, a Probation or Parole Officer, a Lawyer or Judge, Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE), state trooper, private detective, a Crime Scene Investigator, a Ballistic Expert, Secret Service Agent, FBI agent, or a job with the Dept of Homeland Security, to name just a few.The Dept of Homeland Security is, technically, a law enforcement agency, that is IN the field of criminal justice, and many have the power to detain suspects and arrest criminals.  Several of the above agencies are included under the umbrella of “DHS”.  Secret Service, FBI, ICE, the Coast Guard, FEMA, TSA.

Liberalism? Conservative? What do these really mean?

Wow...good job! Pretty much sums it up and yeah...prepare to be attacked with namecalling. I'm sure they are on their way!

Is it legally possible to start a counseling service without a psychology or social work degree in the United States?

My first snarky answer is Yes! Because you can start a counseling service with a *counseling* degree, the degree designed for it. I know that’s not what you’re asking, though. You have to be careful with your terms, and I’m betting it varies by state. You would also have to be careful that your scope of practice did not infringe on a protected profession. The corporations that publish testing instruments won’t even sell them to you without appropriate credentials.Life coaching and spiritual direction are two fields that involve some degree of counseling but not the credential or the license.Interesting side note: part of the code of ethics when I got my degree (I believe the national certification, which I’ve since let expire) involves agreeing not to even use my MA as a postnomial except where it is directly relevant, so it works both ways.

What kind of job can i have with a law degree?

I want to go into law, but i wanted to know what the different concentrations were. I know theres Pharmeceutical law, and family court and stuff, but what else is there?
