Alienware Laptop Or Build My Own Pc

Should I buy an Alienware laptop?

I was very apprehensive at first, having read so many negative comments online regards to Alienware and Dell as a whole. Most of the comments focused on the lack of ‘value for money’ within the Alienware product line-up.To give you a rough idea my Alienware 15 R3 was £1,900.i7 7700HQ processor16gb DDR4 RAMGTX 1070 (8GB DDR5)256GB SSD and a 1TB HDDYou could easily build an equivalent desktop for FAR less. However, when it comes to laptops it is fairly hard to build one yourself due to the size restrictions. Another benefit as mentioned in other answers is that these laptops are fully designed to take the stress a gaming rig will go through, with extremely well designed heat vents and so forth which will be hard to find in cheaper gaming brands or self built laptops. They weigh an absolute tonne (3.8KGS) and have an appalling battery life (roughly 3–4 hours) but perform incredibly! My laptop goes from completely off to on my desktop screen in under 30 seconds and I’m yet to notice any slow down or performance issues, even when playing GPU demanding games such as Assassins Creed, Ghost Recons and PUBG.Another big issue I had was the negative feedback I read online in regards to their customer service, with a general consensus of how awful it was. It’s been nearly a year and I have had no issues with my laptop whatsoever and fortunately have not needed to contact customer services.

Should I buy an Alienware laptop or a gaming PC?

I would say, go with the Alienware laptop. You have mentioned that you need a laptop for certain courses. So I assume that you're a college student, which means that portability is a key factor to consider.Though one can go on and on and on aabout how you can build a similarly specced PC for a lower price, Alienware laptops are not as overpriced as they used to be.People say that for $2500 that you pay for an Alienware 17, you can build a much better PC. Yes, you can. But what tend to forget is that you'd have buy a keyboard, mouse, speakers and a monitor to go with it.Let's say you can build a PC with an i7 7700k, 16GB RAM, 180GB SSD (SATA3 SSDs are much cheaper than NVME SSDs, though you wouldn't notice a big difference in gaming performance), and a GTX 1080 with all the other required components like a decent motherboard that supports overclocking, a 80+ Gold power supply, a CPU cooler, etc for around $2000. You have get a good monitor to utilise the 1080 that you bought. So, a 4k monitor or a 1080p monitor with 144Hz refresh rate starts at around $600. Add in another $150 for some basic mouse, keyboard and speakers.Wait! Don't you need a desk to place all these stuff? And a comfortable chair to go with it to complete your setup? So, after spending all your money on the 'other stuff’ that you may need after building your PC for a lower price than the laptop, still sacrificing portability, do you think the extra effort is worth it?If you're looking for a relatively small but well built laptop, I'd suggest you to go with an Alienware 13 with a 1060 in it. It generally retails for about $1500 with a 1080p screen. If you want the extra screen real estate or a 1070 GPU, go for the Alienware 15.If you wanna get the Alienware 17, I'd suggest you to 'Go big or go home’, as it doesn't really offer any additional value over the Alienware 15, except for the sweet GTX1080, buttery 120Hz QHD display or the gorgeous 4k panel. And it has a subwoofer too.Watch out for sales on Dell.com.I got my Alienware 17 R4 configured with an i7 7820hk, 16GB RAM, 180GB SSD, 1TB HDD, Killer1435 Wireless card, a 4k display and a GTX 1080 for $2399 (before taxes).

Are Alienware laptops good?

I think I want to get the m17x, but I'm not sure if I should. Some reviews are great, but some are bad.

I want it mainly just for gaming high-quality, do you think it would suit my needs?

How is a 2,000$ pc better than an 8,000$ alienware laptop?

So, I know why a 2k pc built by yourself is better than an 8k aw laptop, but my dad doesn't and he thinks it's silly (I want to sell aw m18xr2 from march 2011 for 5k to build a monster-gaming pc), how can I (in a detailed matter) explain to him why it's better. Best answer to whoever answers, and ofc thank you :)

What do you recommend, a ready built PC (e.g Alienware or HP Omen) or would you rather build your own gaming PC?

For others, go with what you’re comfortable with. If you don’t feel comfortable building your own or having a friend/ relative build you one, then go ahead and buy a pre-built (I’d avoid Alienware though…) I won’t judge you on it.For me personally? I know too much about the process to ever just buy a ready-built one unless I would have no other choice. I was nervous upgrading my brothers, I liked building my first, I enjoyed the challenge of building my second, I adored the upgrade to my first (if not a little annoyed that I had to upgrade). The first time through building Schindler I was more concerned about getting the stuff in there and making it work. The cable management was a little shaky and might have been off a little bit, but it held.My second computer I thought the management was pretty good for what it was, an ITX board in an ITX case with an SF power supply with all the components possible from Corsair (yeah, only thing that wasn’t Corsair was the 2tb HDD, motherboard, 200mm fan, and graphics card). For my upgrade to my main PC, I took my time, I spent hours and tons of zip ties getting the cabling just how I wanted it, getting it just how I envisioned it looking. I spent like $200 getting custom length/ custom sleeved cables from CableMod. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. And now when I look down at that thing. I could never imagine going to buy a pre-built system for gaming on again.

Should i get ps4 xbox one or a alienware pc?

Always remember one thing consoles are no match for a PC . Why ???????????????
Because of this ------------------------
1.it allows hardware independence i.e. you can customise it and add all types ofhardware in it. but in consoles you have only a limited amount of attachments.
2.you can't have an experiment with games in consoles but in pc you can expand it programme it as you like.
3.there are many types of tasks that can be done on pc but on consoles you can perform limited amount of tasks.
4.console hardware is far more expensive than pc hardware.
5.on PCs you can do multi tasking but on consoles there is no way you can do multi tasking.

Now I think that you must have figured out that if you you have to choose between PC and a console
choose always PC. I am not saying to throw your consoles in trash , I am just saying that if you have to make a choice you should always choose PC . But , in this case Alienware is not that good buy .I know they look just exquisite but still they cost a lot . Just build your own PC it will cost almost half the money of an alienware PC . But still it is with you an alienware PC can also be better buy than xbox one and the ps4 . Plus initially there won't be many players on the XBOX one and ps4 so you should totally avoid these two .You also don't know what games will be available on them .

Is it better to buy an Alienware for gaming or to just build your own computer? Which one would be the cheaper option?

Cheaper option is Desktop pc.Alienware is shit, overpriced, no good specs at all, because its a Dell brand. Dell laptops are not so good. Because they purchase Chinese parts and assemble it to make a laptop. Dell is known for monitor. Their laptops are not so good. They don't manufacturers or produces nothing else.Talking about desktop pc that is the option i would recommend. But if you travel a lot then go for laptop but not Alienware. Go for Asus Rog Series or Msi. Asus is well known for building pc builds. They make their own motherboard, graphics card, monitor, and many more computer parts.Assembling desktop pc will be much cheaper than a laptop. And it will benefit you in many aspects. Like you have to buy every desktop parts and you will get warranty on each and every parts for 2–3 years. That's really good compared to laptop.Don't buy laptop if you don't travel. Building desktop pc is half the price of laptop.

Origin PC vs Alienware?

I am leaning towards buying my first gaming laptop. I like Alienware and ever since I was a kid, I wanted to own one. But I have heard that their services and support aren't that good. when i found about Origin, I only found out good things about their service and their laptops.

So without bias, which do you think is better?

And please, do not suggest custom-building my own desktop. If there comes a time that you can bring a desktop computer anywhere, feel free to answer.

I am considering buying an Alienware laptop for work and gaming. How long does it last?

Take my word of advice. Don’t do it. It's a waste of money. If a desktop is ok for you, build one. It's simple, and the amount of power you get per dollar could probably be doubled. That is if you choose good parts. Quora can help with that. I know so many friends who bought alien ware stuff and hate them, and are now building computers because they realize that ready made is always worse. Even if you need a laptop, then you can still build that. It’s a little more complicated but still possible and done often. Nvidia (and amd as far as I know, but nvidia is still better) have lots of high quality GPU’s, and Intel has great laptop CPU’s. For gaming, your never going to get the same kind of power from a laptop, but if you need the laptop for work then you should build it. In the long run, building your PC would be the best option. To answer your question though, they “last” as in run, for at least 5 years or so, like any other laptop assuming you don't OverClock. However, depending on the model you get it might not be able to run the latest games, or do video editing well in only 2 years, or it might be up to 5. It's all about the model. On a computer you build, you might be able to get even 8 years out of new games, and depending on what you put in it, get spectacular video editing performance. So, the best bang for your buck? Building a computer. It doesn't take long, and there isn't much to mess up.But if you are dead set on a pre-built, then get that. It's not that it's bad, it's just not as good.
