Am I Developing Short Term Memory Loss

I think I am one of the best eligible person to answer this question!!The problem of short-term memory has been the worst fate for me. I being a bright student at school wasn't able to perform good in exams. The best part was - Just 10–15 days before the starting of exams, my mum be like - ab se Roz subah badam khana, aur exams me sab yaad rhega. And she regularly took care that I eat almonds before going to school till the exams and after that - No almonds for me :p.My memory was so weak - I, going to market, makes mind - today I'll buy some this, this and this. Reaching the market I remember only this, rest gone (:/). Even moving from one room to another to pickup some stuff.. reaching there, what did I came for .All my schooling finished with this problem and all I had was this excuse - this is hereditary and I can't change my memory. My mother was so terrified that she took me to a doctor and got me a C.T. scan to check if I had a problem in my skull. But believe me all this was bullshit. You just need to know where you are lacking or where do you need to improve and take care of yourself. For starters you can -Keep a note of things you need to remember. Sticky notes will do .Try to recall a lot of times whatever you need to take care afterwards(practice-practise).Focus on the work you need to do. Do it with full concentration and confidence.Try to emotionality attach things and relate them accordingly (one of the best ways) so that it doesn't slips off.At night, before sleeping do give a thought about what you did all the day and what you dropped(forgot).Keep your mind calm, read good books, talk to people that inspire you and don't waste a single moment, make the most out of it.You'll surely begin to notice a change in yourself and do cheer for that. And this problem will fade away eventually. I was able to rectify this problem successfully and anybody can.Best of luck!!!

Losing short term memory?

I am 13 years old and I have recently been having really bad short term memory. For example; Today I learned a new song on guitar then 5 hours later I tried to play it, but I had forgotten most of it. There are 2 variables, one being smoking weed and the other being puberty. I smoke weed about once every weekend, sometimes twice, but I have been doing this since the start of the year and one break I smoked weed twice everyday for the whole break. I am dead in the middle of puberty. Could this short term memory loss be from smoking weed or puberty? Or do I just have really bad short term memory?

I am having severe short term memory loss, what can i do?

I know what you are talking about because I went through it before. I think it was because I had too much on my mind. Meaning I was trying to keep control of more than I was capable of. I would be talking to someone and loose track of what I was telling them because I was trying to add too many detales and would side track myself. Or driving to work I would drive up in walmart parking lot and think what the **** am I doing here. Lighten your load and keep in mind you do not have to go so deep in detale because they understand what you are talking about. You as well need to get a little more sleep and start eating better and drinking some water. I think it has a lot to do with stress and could be problems in your home life.

If you don't think that the above is the probem the only other think would be a touch of Alzheimer's Disease. Either way you can go see a doctor and tell him / her what is going on or just what you told us here. If it is stress you should be able to handle it your self but a doctor can give a pill to help with either.

Good luck and take some time off.

Short term memory loss?

I would say I have short term memory loss. It happens constantly. Something will come to me to remember- and then it's gone. I've been using the "to do list" or recording short messages on my phone lately to help me. I haven't really asked a doctor about it. I mainly blame it on lack of sleep and my kids driving me crazy. They say one word and I lose total train of thought. They're 3 and 8 (boys).

Short term memory loss..?

I was in a car accident last nov. and I had brain damage. I lost a few memories but most of the ones I have remembered since then have been bad so I don't really care about that. The problem is that lately I've noticed my memory has been getting really bad. I can memorize things and remeber to wake some one up at a certain time and things like that but I have been forgetting whole situations. Today my mom and I were talking and she mentioned the time I got mad at her boyfriend. Ussually that would be enough for me to remember but not this time. I told her I didn't know what she was talking about and then she started giving me more details.. But still nothing. I didn't remeber anything until she told me about an argument we had at the hospital. Then I remember that I did get mad at him and that my mom and I argued but I still could not remeber why or any details. I remembered me crying in the bathroom and then I got a flashback of a window and her sitting on a cott but that was all. She started freaking out and her tone changed. She tried going backwards and giving me more details and telling me things I said and I did remember thinking those things but I couldn't remeber why. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't form a complete memory. If I remembered some one saying something it would stop mid sentence. Then I started to freak out because I knew it happened I just could remember anything. My head started hurting really bad then when she told me the very begining of how it started everything came rushing back.. Well most of it. There are still some parts where it is hazy and then it just goes black. My question is is it normal that if the doctors said I was recovered from the brain damage, that my memory has been messed up. Also my head hurts bad with lout noises at certain frequencies or when a lot of people are talking at once. My thoughts get jumbled up and I can't hear anything. It's like a painful white noise in my head and I just go deaf.

Short term memory loss?

Hi. I am 19 years old and Ive always had random bad short term memory loss. It is specific things that are small that seems i never remember. For example, I noticed this the other day. I always forget which way to lock the door of my house, which one locks when turned left or right,.. or say I want to turn the light switch on, I can't remember whether it's the left or right switch that is the light, or if it's the fan. I've lived my house all my life, and I cant remember these things lol.

I feel like such a dumbass, but I've never been seriously considered dumb. I have been called slow and "lost" all the time, like im in another world. But the truth is I usually am.

I have always done pretty well in school, but as of late work and school is troubling because of loss of memory of assignments, or random things, like I am always late somehow to class. Im also always distracted by little things I realise, like for example, I make it a point to notice colors and textures, or mannerisms, things others may not notice, and I am distracted by this at work. Yet basic work things, sometimes I forget where I leave stuff, or forget to give someone something. At work I have super short term memory loss, causing people to think Im a ******* idiot. I leave **** in the wrong places, forget my keys, forget my cellphone, cant remember what is what.

It's hard because I try so hard, Im not at all lazy. But it just doesnt come through to me to well.

All im wondering is, why is it that I excel in things such as art, or music. I excel in school with grades when I do study, and have good memory even if I study the last minute the night before. Yet, with things like recent memory, I am horrible at it?

I am suffering from Short Term Memory Loss - what should I do?

First if all, go see your doctor, that's what they are there for. It could be that you are simply easily distracted but if a doctor tells you that it will put your mind at ease.
There are loads of things you can do to improve your memory. Your brain is a muscle and needs to be exercised like every other muscle. The only way to exercise the brain to is learn something new or to do tasks which are difficult and taxing. When you learn something new synaptic connections are made, to put it simply, the more synaptic connections in your neural network, the healthier the brain.
Try brain training games, sudoku, learning new dance steps (good for physical activity too) and the best one apparently is learning a new language.
Also, take cod liver oil, it helps improve synaptic connections.

I hope these work for you, and don't worry too much I'm sure you'll sort it out. :)

Is it possible to have short term and long term memory loss?

I am 19 years old. I am freshman at michigan state university. I feel very stupid because I cannot remember a lot of things that have happened in my life. I can't remember anything from high school or before. If I do remember it, it would only be like a snapshot. Like I won't remember what is said or who was there. I do very well in school, but I also feel like I can't remember some things in the short term memory too when it comes to my social life. Sometimes, I can't remember things that have just happened. After watching a movie, I would never be able to quote things in it. Which means that after a while, I wouldn't be able to tell you if I ever watched the movie or not. I can't ever remember where I put my keys, phone, or wallet. I have a really hard time remembering names. I will know someone for months and I still can't remember their names unless I really think about it. Also, my hearing is kinda off too. Sometimes, but only sometimes, my phone will be ringing on one side of me and I will walk in the other direction to answer it. Or if someone is talking, it will sound like they are on the other side of me. It is not on one side more often than the other side either. I had a concussion when I was like in 3rd grade, but I don't feel like that has anything to do with it. Also, suddenly, my body occasionally feels like i am going to faint. Like I don't have the strength to do anything. It literally feels like I am going to die as I feel extremely light headed and lasts like 10 minutes and goes away. I don't really feel stressed out, but I suppose that could have something to do with it, but I feel like it is too severe to be that. I went to the doctor and she thought it was because I was abused and worrying about something severe that was traumatizing to me which is not the case at all and she said that I was just lying and that there was something big bothering me and just wasn't admitting it. Like I said, I do very well in school. So I feel like the long-term is worse than the short term. But is it possible to have both?? And if so, what do you think is the cause of this?? Remember, I am only 19 years old and I don't use alcohol more than once every couple weeks and I never do drugs. I really don't, even as a freshman in college.

Clive Wearing is an extreme case of a man without a memory and while he seems aware of his problem does not seem to be able to learn new things. However several parts of his brain have been destroyed that deal with processing the present. Those things he learned to do as a child and as a musical academic are still available but for him as his long term memory builds up an understanding of the present world, it is like waking up for the first time. In effect anything new like a new sentence wipes out what was last in the short term memory with no access to recalling what he was thinking about or doing. However you will notice that in the above documentary one of the psychologist says that other amnesiacs are able to process the episodic events of their life. This documentary sort of confirms my theory that everything goes into the long term memory but only success, danger and some pain worth recalling for everyday functioning!  Clive is able to go into a new environment and learn to make a cup of tea but if asked how or when he made it, he could not recall doing it.
