Am I Pushing Myself Too Hard In My Workouts

If my muscles are still sore 4 days after the workout, did I push myself too hard?

I agree with what Chris said. I have only faced this once (nearly passing out while exercising) and it's not a pleasant experience either physically or mentally. Mentally you realize that you have gotten way below your last physical level and a workout that used to be relatively easy back in the past is now almost wiping you out. That being said, you still need to be careful about certain things when it comes to pushing yourself during workout.1) Strictly adhere to proper form - Proper technique tends to be the first thing going out of the window when trying to increase the number of reps or the weight being lifted. Don't be that guy. An incorrectly performed rep is a rep that shouldn't be counted.2) Be sensible - What this means is that be open to taking a step back in order to be able to take 3 steps forward. Don't skip on deloads and active recovery as they allow your body to become strong enough for you to set that PR. It is physically impossible to constantly train at 90%+ of your one rep max and see a lot of progress.3) There can be bad days - Sometimes you have bad days when your body just refuses to perform. Be smart and don't try to be overoptimistic with what you can do. This is something that you need to understand of your body for yourself. Focus on technique will help prevent injury.Regarding DOMS (Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness), the best way to get over the soreness is to indulge in active recovery. This is where you perform light exercises rather than just skip gym because of the pain. What have you implemented into your workouts to push yourself to the next level?

I’ve been working out for around 20+yrs. however mostly weights with the odd walk or 5min jog here and there.I could do 350+kg deadlifts but couldn’t keep up with my 2 yr old daughter of she ran away from me.All changed when last year I had a heart attack and the doctors said that’s the end of the road for heavy compound movements.I was gutted to say the least! They insisted I start walking and running. I had no idea where to start.I downloaded an app, and started on a 0–5k run plan.Started off just going for longish walks. About 40min.Then the app started to get me jogging for 1min and walking for 2. Then jog for 2min and walk for 2. Soon it was jog for 12min and walk for 2.In about 3months after I started I completed my first ever 5k. It wasn’t fast. But I did it.Come rain, snow or sun I was out putting in the miles.I was still hitting the gym, but was doing lighter weight and more reps. I did notice that I could push more and more reps and sets without tiring as much. The muscle definition was awesome. All from the jogging!I go jogging everyday now. And I can now do a 5k as and when I want without too much bother. My most recent tests at the hospital show that my heart failure condition has now reversed… 9months after my heart attack.

Is it bad to push yourself too hard exercising?

If your pushing your body to it's limits then your doing the workout currently. The only way to improve ur physical agility is to push till you can't anymore. If your legs feel like jelly it means oxygen is getting to the muscle. Its good for them. Try swimming to get your cardio In better shape. For the blood taste I recommend taking small mouth fulls of water while doing your exercise. That dry mouth feeling is from heavy breathing.

Don't feel anything after workout?

What do you mean you should feel pumped up?! haha after I work out, I'm exhausted, and want to do nothing other than sit on the couch. If you feel like it's not providing you with proper benefits, then I would say you aren't pushing yourself hard enough, it is a common misconception that people think they are going as hard as they can, but there is often more to give.

How do I know if I am trying hard enough in a workout?

I would suggest getting a heart rate monitor. Although some people may have a higher heart rate than normal, a majority of people can find out a lot about their workouts based on their heart rate. There are a few different ways to utilize a heart rate monitor - but I personally try to strive in the 80-90% heart rate max. I may push myself above sometimes but knowing I am in the 80-90% range during my workout (or for at least 20-30 minutes) helps me feel better about the workout in general.

Should I push myself to my limit when exercising?

Now here's where stamina comes into playIt's not a big deal doing 65 reps in the very first setBut question is can you do the same for the second set?? If no, try doing 40-50 reps in first setThen go for your maximum reps for the second setThis counts your stamina nowMohammed Ali says that he use to start counting his squats only when he started feeling pain. And so... yes you have to push hard ,but statistically , that helps you gaining strength and stamina simultaneously.Remember stamina is way far different from strength.
