Am I Taking Bjj For The Wrong Reason

Why do this BJJ coach hate me so much?

Seems to me that your BJJ instructor is jerk and has some issues with fighters not having an exceptional JJ game.

You are a victim of his close-mindedness. You fired up his insecurity, Knowing that you can do well even with somewhat average ground game, he considered it as a threat to his credibility since he's a BJJ coach. He dreads to imagine that a fighter can be successful even w/o his chosen discipline. I think he is full of himself and his art.

Based on what you said, I think you have proven to be the better fighter against the two. He might be right about your weak BJJ but he disrespected the other disciplines you have mastered. He failed to see your intelligence in the fight and the quality of your stand-up. He should've train you to be better in BJJ and gave you the fight you wanted and deserved.

Since the MMA era... Lots of BJJ practitioners heads swelled. Some of them think that BJJ is the discipline to end all disciplines. They think that it is the best and the only way to win fights. I've met lots of them, Tsk tsk... I say, they have to learn the hard way. Don't get me wrong, BJJ is great. I love the art but it is only a complementary discipline in MMA. Just like any other martial arts.

My suggestion for you is to rough it up. It will be your growth as a fighter and a person. Don't be close-minded like your BJJ instructor. Learn and improve more your ground game. After all, you already admitted that the hole in your game is BJJ. Maybe someday, you will thank that your instructor was an A.S.S.H.O.L.E.

Why is everyone being such a jerk to me at bjj?

I've been doing bjj for about 4 months now. im still a plain white belt.
So let me just start out by saying that the people at my school have a funny mentality. They say hi and bye and nice job, but when its time to partner up and do a drill or roll then its like im supposed to go to them in order for me to make them Think im a good guy. Now i know my instructor is cool and i know they make a lot of jokes in the gym but they make too much jokes to me until i just fake laugh it off but really inside me im just sick of it. for an example on a warmup we got line up to do planks and the other guy has to jump over everone in the line doing planks and so on. Before we lined up he said to get closer to eachother. So i did and my instructor said not too close and really i wasen't i was the same level as everyone else. after i jumped over everyone i got back down and he said TOO CLOSE BACK UP!!! YOU DONT EXPECT TO KISS HIM NOW DO YOU? and then everyone started to just laugh. and at least 3x for the week i get pranced around like this. I'm not sick of it its just that i kind of deserve some respect in the gym as well.

When its time to train now. No one wants to actually walk me through the steps of the move except the instructor (SOMETIMES). But i feel as though im doing it wrong and my partner wont say hey you gotta do so and so in order to get him to tap out.

But overall its okay but i think you got the picture.

and also Bjj is a respected sport i know but these guys dont look at it this way.And my instrustor is also a coach which makes it worse :(

Bjj street fight?

Duh, of course you need to cross train in stand up. Unless you are in highschool, people don't jump into fights, except to keep the fight from being too dangerous (slamming head on concrete, choking etc.).
Besides learning stand up doesn't mean you will be able to fight off a second or third person. At least with Jiu Jitsu, you can take out one person fast enough before everyone else can figure out what you did to them. If you find your self in a situation, forget playing fair and break fingers and arms, before anyone can jump in.

Otherwise, I can't imagine a situation where a second person would jump in (except if you are a teen).

Why such hatred for BJJ? You know who you are.?

yes

do you??

the problem is that so many kids on here think it's the single greatest art that was ever created because they've seen it on tv.
it sometimes irritates the people who know better
BJJ is not a bad system but as all martial arts it's not perfect either

Is a good wrestler the equivalent of a BJJ Black Belt?

No, a legitimate BJJ black belt would mop the floor with a D1 college wrestler with no BJJ experience. The two have similarities but are also very different. I think a white belt would struggle but most blue belts could tap most D1 college wrestlers with no bjj training and are similar in size.

Wrestlers usually don't take long to pick up BJJ though. Wrestlers usually have a lot of skills that transition well into bjj and learn fast. So while a blue belt could tap a wrestler during their first few training sessions it doesn't take long for the wrestler to pick up enough skills to make them very hard to submit.
