Am I Weird For My Taste In Music

People think I have weird music taste..?

Because normal girls listen to normal crap on the radio... or that's the short answer, anyways. In a 'cool' person's mind, if you aren't doing what they're doing, then you're trying to be cooler. At least, that's the best thing I've come up with in trying to figure out their logic, or lack thereof. Trust me, I listen to stuff normal girls would consider 'weird' as well - lots of classical (I do a lot with orchestra) and modern musicians like Lindsey Stirling, David Garett and the Piano Guys who most people have never heard of. The majority will determine 'normal,' and since the majority doesn't listen to that, it's not considered 'normal.'

Don't waste your time getting worked up about it :)

Is my taste in music weird?

No, it's not weird at all, in fact, you have excellent tastes in music. It's been scientifically proven that most of today's pop songs are becoming increasingly bland and simplistic. The artists you listen to are examples of the creativity that was around before modern pop ruined it, and some of the few exceptions of good music still around today. In fact I know lots of people who don't listen to modern pop artists- you go into any music classroom and talk to high school music students- you'll find that most of them listen to other types of music; older pop; broadway, alternative, classic rock, classical, country, folk, bluegrass, Celtic- you get the point. The only place you may not find that is a girls' choir class. But other than that, most music students are not huge fans of mainstream pop. So, you're not the only on who listens to other kinds of music.

Is my music taste weird?

It depends what I'm in the mood for. These are what I love:

AC/DC, One Direction, The Beatles, Suicide Silence, 5SOS, Radiohead, Metallica, Simple Plan, Bring Me THe Horizon, McFly, Busted, Green Day, Twenty One Pilots, Eminem, The Vamps, Lorde, Melanie Martinez, Elvis Presley, Taylor Swift, All Time Low, Nightcore, Nightstep, Dubstep, S3RL, Rexo, Nirvana, Janoskians, Gorillaz, Marilyn Manson, Fall Out Boy, The Weeknd, Coldplay, Attila, Slipknot, Avril Lavigne, Sia, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, The Tide, Brian Crain, The GazettE, Dazzle Vision, Sam Milby, Daniel Padilla, 2NE1, APink, Ghost Town, Evanescence, The Rolling Stones, Joan Jett, Ramones, Cascada, OutKast, Weezer, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Gwen Stefani, and blink-182,

Do I have a weird taste in music?

So, I'm a fan of the band called One Direction. A directioner, really. I hate almost all pop music, pretty much. Yet I'm a fan of them. Then I listen to different bands such as Breaking Benjamin, Black Veil Brides, Three Days Grace, Asking Alexandria, etc.
So I want to know if my taste is music is a bit strange. I know this girl who WAS a directioner but then when she found out about another band similar to the ones I just listed, she stopped liking them. I love the band too, yet I still am a directioner. People are always either a fan of pop music, a fan of rock/metal/screamo, or neither. Is it weird that I love One Direction yet still listen to my kind of music? When I meet somebody who likes one of them, they 'hate' the other. I don't know why! Am I just different? Anybody else out there that's like me?

My friends think my taste of music is weird?

I am a 16 year old girl, and they all make fun of me for my music and my "style". I listen to bands like Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd and Judas Priest and Black Sabbath and Metallica and Simon and Garfunkel and Red Hot Chili Peppers and Mumford and Sons and Kansas and ACDC and Foreigner and Alice in Chains and Nirvana and Blue Oyster Cult and Van Halen and Bob Marley and Disturbed and Creedence Clearwater Revival and Dire Straits and Macklemore and Grateful Dead and Flogging Molly and Yes and Iron Maden and Jethro Tull and Jimi Hendrix and moreeee (Sorry for the really long list but I think it's necessary lol). I also wear a lot of band shirts, and they think that's weird.
they listen to 1 Direction and Taylor Swift and I don't even know who else, but they say that I should "dress like them" and that I should listen to what they listen to. What do I do?

Is it weird to listen to video game music?

No it isn’t.Video game music is music too, just like any other music. They are also composed by musicians. I listen to several tracks across various titles.Several OST of Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 were composed by Hans Zimmer, one of the greatest musicians of our time. Hans Zimmer composes primarily for Hollywood.“Dovahkiin” - A track from Skyrim is one my favourite music track. I start my day listening to it.“Ezio’s Family” - Another beautiful score from the Assassin’s Creed 2.By weird, if you mean getting judged by others, then you should only listen to what those people “listen”. If not, then you should have a taste of your own and listen to what you think is good. So it is not weird.

What's your taste in music?

I am seriously into French music. Like obssessively serious. I use Spotify and listen to my favorites over and over. It's funny, though, not being immersed in a francophone culture, I have what my French friends often describe as weird taste. See, I don't really know what's cool or not. I'm not bombarded by social cues about which songs are serious and which are silly pop sensations. So I just listen to what I like.Calogero is one of favorite solo artists.Le Portrait makes me cry.Un jour un mauvais endroit makes me think about the transience and the randomness of life. Then there is Face à la mer, which he performs with the rap artist Passi. It's a cry of defiance against unjust circumstances in life.Next is the Group Indochine. J'ai demandé à la lune is their big come back hit. To me (but maybe not to others) it's a hymn to the mysterious beauty of life.I love Renaud with a passion. I drink his songs like water. Petit pédé translates to something like little faggot. This isn't my favorite of his, but I was pleased to discover it.Then there is a whole list of others. This is where I get strange.Maryvette Lair, Manau, Hugo Lapointe, Tom Frager, Barcella, Grégoire, Fauve, Camille, Florent Pagny, Merzhin, Natasha St. Pierre, Isabelle Boulay, Zaz, Clarika, Jali, Mikael Miro, Thierry Amiel, Olivia Ruiz, Dionysos, and Patrick Sébastien. Those are just a few taken from my favorites playlist in the order they appear. But there's one more. It's almost embarrassing to talk about.Gregory Lemarchal inspires me. Mostly I guess, teen girls listen to him. He was a young man who won a big talent show in France and went on to a recording career. A very short one.He was just a boy, really. A boy with a powerful voice and an instinct for singing. He reached the height of his game while in the final stages of cystic fibrosis. His second and last album is a poignant mix of youthful optimism combined with a realization of impending death. His interpretations move me tremendously. Here is a link to one of his best. A corps perdu. He sings one line in there that translates to, if life is only a lost cause, my soul is still free.I like that.

How eclectic are your music tastes?

Heh. I have a bit in my stand up routine about this. I’ll do you the honor of transcribing it.“… And it’s not just some hazy future with flying cars and tube transport that we’re talking about describing 2017 in, it applies now, too. Let me get real with some of the younger millennials in the crowd. In 2008, we listened to the radio. There used to be a radio, in our cars, and that’s what we used to listen to. And thumb drives were actually big, round, flat, shiny discs called CDs. Those were a thing. Lady Gaga had one hit, and it was Poker Face. Ke$ha was not a thing. Taylor Swift was just barely not-country. Katy Perry wasn’t weird yet, Miley Cyrus hadn’t grossed anybody out, and not only did we have iPods, but the Zune was considered a legitimate competitor. But now music is all on your phone. It’s convenient. It’s SOOOOO convenient. Look, man! Pandora (Google Play if you’re nasty) fucked me up! I have a thing now, and it’s a weird one! And you know where it comes from? The fact that you can set up stations based solely on the music you already know you like! And there’s a skip button! It’s SOOOOOOOO convenient.OH WAIT! Now I only listen to late 2000’s Canadian indie music!sigh…No one can relate to that… I wouldn’t go out with that. And before you get it into your head that I’m kidding or just making shit up, Metric, Stars, Plushgun, Dragonette, Small Beautiful Machines, Shiny Toy Guns, Tegan and Sara (that’s more of a lesbian thing, but it works), The Sounds, Tokyo Police Club, The Submarines, The Decemberists, Lorde (is not really indie, but she has the right sound for it). Fuck. Why don’t you just give me the hipster sombrero, a suspender skirt, a fake gluten allergy and low-grade sociopathy and let’s get it overwith?”I then go on to talk about ska, which includes the phrase “a 12 pack of natty ice and daytime masturbation.” It’s a pretty good set, for only 5 minutes.EDIT: Yes, I know only about half of those are Canadian groups. Sue me, they all come from Metric radio on Google Play

Am I weird for being an 11 year old and liking 70s-90s music and nothing else?

No, you are not a weird person, age is just a matter of number but you cannot compare music with age. Music is itself a way to god, it is therapy, hobby, passion and life. It's totally uopn you what kind of taste you have in muaic. And as per me in the early 70’s and 80’s it was hard to get such a wonderful work and you are gifted that you have such beautiful taste in music my friend.
