Sprained ankle still hurts after 7 months?

i had the same deal. not sure if you had shots of steriods and the other injection they give you for the pain. its been over a year now since ive worked. they said it was a sprain n to go back to work after a few weeks but it still hurt. it finally hurt so bad i had to go to a specialist and what it came down to was me being on it, i did more damage to it and had surgery to tighten legament n tetdens. that surgery didnt event work. i have nerve damage now to from working on it and from the injections i recieved. the injections killed the tissue around my nerve in my ankle and exposed my nerve. i say see a specialist right away and dont let them give you the shots in your ankle..good luck and i hope what happened to me doesnt happen to you...have it checked right away..its been to long for it 2 still be hurting

After having 4 months of a chronic ankle sprain, do I still need to ice it if it is still stiff and tender? It's a lot of work taking care of it and doing physiotherapy.

The majority of patients are clinically improved by 4 months after a simple lateral ankle sprain. Continued pain and/or lack of improvement may be indicative of peristent instability, a high ankle sprain (injury to deltoid ligament and/or syndesmosis ligaments), or a cartilage injury. If the ankle is still swollen, then ice and elevation are still beneficial.

Sprained ankle still hurting after a month?

I have had this happen numerous times. To be honest you really cant distinguish a sprain from a fracture. If u have health insurance id probally see a doctor. However i can tell you some excersizes that help with the recovery. one of the best things to do it to just money your foot around in the are, rotate from side to side and around, but not to long, this will loosen it up and help relax the foot. Also try doing this in a pool. You can also walk in the pool since there wont be that much pressure on ur feet since you feel lighter in the pool. These are just basics. There really isnt anything else you can do except wear a brace for support. I advise you to go to a doctor. and drink lots of milk to prevent future injuries =p

Sprained ankle still hurts after 2 months?

I sprained my ankle a little more than 2 months ago (Grade 2) and it still hurts. When I get up in the morning, it hurts and it takes a while for the pain to go away. Also, I can't really bend it without it hurting. Or, If I'm sitting for a long time and I get up to go get something, it hurts. I didn't go to see a doctor when I sprained it, and we did elevate it and put ice on it when I first sprained it. I also wore an Ace bandage for a week. Is it normal that my ankle still hurts after about 2 months?

I sprained my ankle and it has been months but it still hurts when it's in some positions, what can I do?

Sprains take a lot longer to heal than breaks do, because there is poor blood supply to tendons and ligaments which are what is damaged in a sprain. It can take over a year to heal fully. You can check with your doctor and see if you should be splinting it or having physical therapy for it.

Sprained ankle still causing problems after 6 months?

Why does my ankle still hurt 2 months after surgery?

I had surgery about 2 months ago and got put into a walking boot after having a hard cast for a while. I got 8 screws and a plate on my right ankle. a week after I got my boot I would take it off at night when I got home, and I could walk around perfectly without pain. Im supposed to have 5 more weeks with this walking boot. On Monday I was at a softball tournament and basically had to walk around for 12 hours. I played catcher on my team so I didnt have to move around much just simply walking but I also batted a couple times. After my 3 games I took my boot off and walked around the rest of the time without it, and it felt fine. Near the end of the night it started to hurt a little, then when I woke up in the morning I couldn't walk at all without my boot. Now when I walk in my boot it sends a sharp pain from my ankle down to my right 2 or 3 toes, and it's more of a throbbing pain when I'm not moving. Last night I slept with my boot on after icing it for about 30 minutes, and I woke up it was the same feeling. It hurts like really bad but I don't see how I could have broken it again if there's 8 Screws and a plate holding it together. Everyone's saying that it's probably just sore but it's not a sore feeling. I cant get an appointment with my doctor for 2 weeks, and it would be too expensive to go to the ER to get an x-ray. I dont really know what to do, my days are really busy so I can't just "Lay off my ankle" but I plan on just using my crutches till it gets better and I can get back into my boot without pain. Any advice would help, I'm just lost right now. Thanks in advance

I sprained my ankle 7 months ago and it still won't heal.?

See a good podiatrist, preferably one who lists himself as a foot and ankle surgeon. And definitely consider physical therapy - they will give you exercises to do and also tell you what not to do.

Its possible that some combination of the right kind of rest, and the right of exercises, is what you need.
Ibuprofen can help reduce the swelling. So can elevating it, or using a compression sock. Severe inflammation can also be treated with a steroid burst, ie a medrol dose pak- it requires a prescription and it may or may not be appropriate.

I had an ankle sprain that never healed and kept hurting, and it turned out to be RSD. Its rare and you may not have it, but make sure to find a knowledgeable doctor who can recognize it (many don't). It tends to be treated by neurologists or pain management doctors (anesthesiologists and physiatrists), but smart podiatrists may know about it. If you do have RSD, act quickly because it can get scary very fast. Physical therapy will be the most important thing; medication and nerve blocks can be a big help

Is it normal that my ankle still hurts after 8 months of a 2nd degree sprain?

Approximately 30% of people still have ankle pain 1 year after an ankle sprain[1] . That is not a necessary result, but one that increases in likelihood if you rely on rest, ice and just waiting it out.Sprained ankles simply do not heal on their own. You need to actively follow a good ankle rehab program, which includes removing swelling and improving healthy circulation to bring much needed immune cells into the injured area to repair muscle tissue. And then, you need to do a variety of well thought out exercises and stretches to rebuild strength, stability and range of motion in the ankle.I recommend the H.E.M. Ankle Rehab System (which you can follow along with step by step videos and do entirely at home) or go see a qualified physical therapist. Either way, please take an active role in healing your ankle or it simply will not get better.I realize that you have an older injury, but rehab is definitely the way to go. Just take it slowly and gently as you go through the steps, to see how your ankle responds. Work through breaking up the scar tissue and slowly building up strength, stability and healthy range of motion and you should start to see excellent healing resuts.I hope that helps!Footnotes[1] http://Margo KL (12/08). How long does it take for a sprained ankle to heal?

The truth is it depends on what you do to heal it? If you just use rest and ice and wait for it to heal itself, it could take a very long time. The average healing time using rest and ice is about 4 - 8 weeks for the most minor of sprains. However, up to 30% of people who use rest and ice still have pain 1 year later. The problem is that the ankle will still be weak and unstable after it "heals". I put that in quotes, because even though you can get back to normal activities, your ankle won't really be healed up. It will still be tender and at a high risk for another sprain. That's why so many people keep re-injuring the same ankle time and time again. It's weak, unstable and has a poor range of motion. Not only does this negatively affect the ankle, but also the areas above it (the knees, hips and low back).I have found that in order to heal a sprained ankle quickly and fully, you need to do a good rehab or healing program for the ankle. Then, it usually takes about 3 - 7 days (for grade 1-2 sprains... for grade 3 sprains- the most serious kind, it takes about 1-3 weeks vs. 2-6 months or longer with rest and ice). In order to do a good ankle rehab program, you can either go see a Physical Therapist or try a good at home ankle rehab program (I recommend the H.E.M. Ankle Rehab System), which is designed to help you heal a sprained ankle fast (about a week for most sprains) and protect you from future sprains without the need for ankle braces, wraps, and tape. It is simple to follow 3 step system backed by the latest scientific studies and does not require any equipment. If you do a good ankle rehab program, your ankle will heal fully and that means pain-free, strong, stable ankles that improve overall movement and reduce the risk of future injury. Thanks!
