What are some good fanfiction ideas you have had but haven’t gotten the chance to write?
I’ve had the thought of Harry being a son of Poseidon for ages. He has black hair, emerald green eyes and his qualities including the ability to go with the flow makes him a suitable candidate for being a son of the sea god. Powerful halfblood = powerful demigod. Demigods at Hogwarts may be cliche, but it’d be cool with Harry bearing two responsibilities at once (I kind of feel sorry for him) - defeating Voldemort and deafeating Kronos. Monsters at Hogwarts which can only be seen through the Mist are even cooler. I’ve read multiple stories and I like the idea of Hermione as a daughter of Athena and Draco as a son of Hades because he’s my favorite.Elysium. I cried so hard when Loki died and lots of people like Nick Fury and Falcon deserved so much better *sniff*. It’d be nice for the Avengers to meet up with the demigods (eg: Charles Beckendorf, Jason Grace, Michael Yew) and conquer the world together because they’re powerful themselves and even powerful combined (;A resorted!Hogwarts au. I think all of the characters would have been in different houses, Draco and Hermione in Ravenclaw, Harry in Slytherin etc. They could have grown up different, made better friends and there would be a completely different yet happier ending. The Draco redemption arc plot is good, but what if he’d been a rebel in school, making friends with Muggleborns and having a compeltely different personality? He’d obviously be thirsty for knowledge and he could have been a valuable ally (spy) to the Light.Hogwarts AUs. Sorting my faves into Hogwarts houses would be cool. Korra in Gryffindor and Mako in Ravenclaw. Percy in Hufflepuff and Annabeth in Slytherin. Viktor in Hufflepuff/Ravenclaw and Yuuri in Gryffindor/Slytherin. My heart is melting just thinking of it.Hunger Games AUs. Demigods using their powers battling to the death and someone eventually standing out and demanding peace and they survive together and become best friends (:Dark!Hermione and Dark!Harry. I’ve read works by cleotheo and the idea of Hermione, Draco and Harry becoming a new trio thrills me.I have lots of whump prompts because I run a blog on tumblr but I usually give prompts and only write about Yuri!!! What are the best Jon Snow fanfics?
There are only two I’d recommend as the best Jon Snow fanfics. Most fanfiction in general is pretty terrible, but these two are quite good, for fanfiction at any rate.Dragons of Ice and Fire: This is the one that focuses on Jon the most. Later on it includes POVs of other characters, but this is almost a given in any story based on A Song of Ice and Fire. There should still be enough of Jon to satisfy you. The story is a divergence from canon wherein the Others attack the Free Folk encampment in the Frostfangs instead of the Night’s Watch. In the process, Jon awakens an ice dragon and soon becomes responsible for it. Unlike in other fanfics, this dragon is not an instant win card. It explores the realities of having a dragon and its consequences on the story.The North Remembers: This is a completed fanfic that continues the story from where A Dance With Dragons left off. I wouldn’t call it a Jon Snow fic per se as he has only a few chapters in it. However, what the author does with him is unique. The story has a number of surprises that make it an interesting “finish” to the series.
Help with Skyrim Fanfiction?
Turns Sarcastic, Murderous, and sneaky. As a Rough Outline answer, she could be "Caught" by the DB for killing someone that had that Black Sacrament thing performed on them, the person was doing the Black Sacrament, the rumor got out, but they were also trying to hire private mercenaries or something to do the job in case the Black Sacrament didn't work, assuming your using the bit from the game where there is no listener, or they just so happened to only just barely get a listener, and that's how they found out about the Black Sacrament or something, so DB person comes to collect Rosanna and induct her to the DB, and threatens to kill her otherwise or something. Thieves Guild Leader, or person in the guild just happens to "Collide" with Rosanna as she's pilfering a House, and the thief person is just so flabbergasted that she didn't even see Rosanna sneak in, that they offer an invite, or drop a hint that they ought to check out Riften or something. I'm afraid I can't really help with the College one, other than maybe... Rosanna was using the Library extensively, for history or something, was looking into valuable artifacts she could steal or something, and became decent friends with some of the Mages that were also studying there, she picked up a few tricks from them, helped her be a better thief/assassin (Illusion Spells), and she bumped into the Arch-Mage at some point, and he offered her a place in the College because she seems like an aspiring student or a strong mage. On the topic of the Dawnguard and Volkihar, I know in the game you join one, and can then choose to switch sides for, but you make it seem like your Rosanna Character is doing both. Pertaining to that, Dawnguard is easy enough, heard about killing vampires, joined up, blah, Volkihar... Well Honestly outside of the Dawnguard Questline story reason for joining up with them, the reward that is. Soo... Hrm. I THINK one of the members of the Volkihar Vampires mentioned that they were "Recruited" by Vingalmo or something years prior, but I don't know that it every explains that the Volkihar Vampires are ALL vampire Lords, or just some of them, so this is largely up to your own imagination. What do the ratings on fanfiction.net really mean?
K - Stories rated K are pretty well appropriate for anyone who can read. Worst thing you’d see on here is someone calling someone else “stupid.”K+ - This one is usually pretty safe too. There may be some violence, and very mild and occasional foul language. Nothing sexually explicit at all, nothing more than a kiss would be appropriate for this category. That said, people sometimes misinterpret this rating and occasionally you’ll find a story with more than this. Age for this would probably be 8 or 9 and up.T - Foul language isn’t uncommon in these stories, and is plentiful in some. Some adult themes, but again, nothing explicit. This is pretty well good for kids 13 or 14 and above, depending on their maturity.M - To be completely honest, I rarely read any of these unless the reason for the rating is specifically stated. Very foul language, some sexually explicit scenes and themes, and depending on the genre, a lot of gore. Personally, I believe that some of the stories rated M aren’t appropriate for a teen of any age, however, if the story is rated only for violence, language, and gore, I’d probably say 16 years and up is pretty safe.I know that sexually explicit things are not allowed on Fanfiction.net, but not everyone closely reads the guidelines I guess. Those would qualify as MA if FanFiction had a rating that high. Not every one follows the rules, and I just wanted to give you a more accurate description of what’s on there than what the site claims is supposed to be on there.

Do you think writing fanfiction is a step away from becoming a good writer or a good exercise for character/plot development?
I am strongly in favor of fanfic, but I am prejudiced, since that is how I started out. (At the age of about 10 or 11 I started writing Andre Norton fanfic before I ever knew there was such a thing.) The advantage of writing fanfic is that your world is already built for you, and the background of at least some of your characters is established. You get to concentrate on mastering plot and the characterization of your original characters. As Mike Prinke has mentioned writing “fanfic”, in the form of “spec scripts,” is a requirement for attempting to get a job on an existing show.If you are writing fanfic purely for pleasure and to have more stories in your chosen ‘verse than the writer(s) have already produced, that’s great. It’s fantastic to have a creative hobby. Enjoy, find your audience and niche, and always remember that this is supposed to be fun. If it stops being fun, if you find yourself raging against your readers, or coming into conflict with other writers in the ‘verse, stop.If you are writing fanfic for practice, then you need to take a whole different approach. You need to find someone who is a good, hard, but fair critic. Preferably more than one. You can’t just coast; you need to improve. You need to move out of using the existing ‘verse characters into creating your own, entirely original cast. You need to read books about writing and put what you learn into practice.You also need to remember that 50 Shades and Twilight were the black swans of writing. Editors really are not combing the billions of words of fanfic looking for a new star, no matter what you’ve been told or you hope. Once you are good enough for real publication, you’ll have to break in the old-fashioned way.
Skyrim Lore Question! Companions Farkas and Vilkas!?
Okay, this has to do with where Farkas and Vilkas came from. On UESP, it says they were rescued from a Necromancer cult as children and were adopted by a Companion named Jergen. It's a fact, they were brought to Jorrvaskr by Jergen, but where does it tell you that they were found in a Necromancer cult? As far as I know, Farkas and Vilkas never say anything about Necromancers. Vilkas says he doesn't even know if Jergen was their real or adoptive father (I know he technically says he doesn't 'care,' I'm assuming) and Farkas calls him their father, so that leads one to believe they don't even remember life before being at Jorrvaskr. So where do you find out about the Necromancer cult? Or is that something created by the fanfiction-world, because that seems to be the the consensus there.
