Are there any good documentaries on what happened in Germany since World War II?

Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) : The movie is though not documentary but very close to it. Its based on the real events of how 4 Nazi Judges were tried in court just after WWII A must watch if you are interested in post world war history.

What is the best documentary to learn about WWI?

By far the best in my experience is 'The Great War'. 26 episodes, it's the spiritual forebear of 'The World At War', an equally immense documentary about World War II.The fact that it was filmed in 1964 puts it closer to the Great War then we are even to World War II. Less than 50 years after the war finished, many of the participants were still alive and are interviewed in the series.I honestly doubt there will ever be another documentary about World War I that's as good. The trend in historical documentary television is towards shorter series and well-known events. For example, it's unlikely that English-language television will ever produce a documentary that spends even 20 minutes discussing the Brusilov offensive - television producers assume (possibly rightly) that viewers would prefer a four-part series about the Battle of the Somme or Jutland.A YouTube Clip of the opening of the first episode.IMDB: The Great War (TV Series 1964– )

What are the best documentaries to know about WWI without any bias?

Great answers below.I agree that nothing, especially about war, is unbiased. However, I seek out personal stories about the “average” soldier/sailor/airman. The least biased seem to come from them and the civilians affected by war.I avoid anything written or spoken by high ranking officers. Haig and Foch were complete jerks who appear to be incapable of learning from the massive casualties they brought about.Pershing had to give up command for a while because he came close to having a breakdown.FWIW, No one comes back from a war without being profound changes, regardless of what their job might have been.

What are some single cut (no episodes; series) good documentaries related to World War I & II?

I think one good source is raise and fall of 3rd reich in youtube.Though it is not single cut I enjoyed watching Hitler's henchmen and Hitler's warriors. But again a single cut documentary usually covers only european war and not the pacific one in detail

What are the best World War II documentaries?

There is no way you could distill the entire war into a single two or three hour documentary but there are multi-part series that do a good job. There are thousands of World War II documentaries on just about every conceivable subject (those broadcasting hours on the Discovery Channel and its spinoffs don't fill themselves up) but few that attempt to cover a broad swath of the war.In the sweeping documentary department, consider:"The World at War" (26 parts)Weighing in at 26 episodes with a running time of over 22 hours, "The World at War" has room to do a reasonable exploration of the many different theaters and campaigns of the war. Made in 1969, it may feel a bit dated to modern sensibilities but also had a great advantage in being able to interview many of the survivors and participants as well as superb archival footage. "The World at War" could be accused of an Anglo-American bias but does take pains to take a broad view of the conflict. It may not reflect the emphases and interpretations of modern historiography but it does strive for a even-handed, comprehensive treatment of the war.Ken Burns's "The War" (7 parts)"The War" is a US-centric view of the conflict that touches only lightly on the experiences of other combatants. With that reservation in mind, what it does cover it does very well. "The War" may not rise to the heights of Burns's "The Civil War" but it is close. In the recreation/thinly fictionalized dramatization department, consider: HBO's "Band of Brothers" (10 parts)Based on Stephen Ambrose's history, "Band of Brothers" follows the fortunes of a company of the 82nd Airborne from D-Day to the end of the war. Think of it as a long-form companion to "Saving Private Ryan." HBO's "The Pacific" (10 parts)"The Pacific" does for the Pacific what "Band of Brothers" did for the European theater. Drawing on a number combat memoirs - principally Eugene B. Sledge's "With the Old Breed" and Robert Leckie's "Helmet For My Pillow" - it follows the war in the Pacific from Guadalcanal to Okinawa from the point of view of a Marine infantryman. "The Pacific" does not sustain itself as well as a narrative as "Band of Brothers" does. In part this is because it is stitched together from the experiences of several different individuals who did not serve is in the same outfit unlike "Band of Brothers." Unfortunately "The Pacific" makes a number of questionable choices in its narrative that detract from it.

What are the best documentary or series of episodes, that will describe about World War 1 and 2?

If you want to learn more about the wars I would recommend not to view the movies as movies tend to be a little biased and hollywood always downplays the role played by non-americans in the war effort. If you are looking for documentaries, the you can try "World war 1/2 in color" , history channel's "World war in HD". There is also an old one, "the world at war", if you can find it. A lot of them will be available in http://documentaryheaven.com/. If you want to see for entertainment you can try Band of Brothers. It will give a good picture about the life of a soldier in the European theater of war. A lot of movies are there but many are not factually correct. Most are made to appease the american sentiment about the war. For example, U-571 gives full credit to the americans for breaking enigma code. But in reality the Polish and the British contributed more to it.

Are there any cold-reading documentaries or series about it?

Is there a good documentary on italian history?

I've found that there's just too many periods of Italian history to be summarized in even a few documentaries. There's:
• The Etruscans and the founding of the Republic
• The Republic to Caesar
• Caesar to Augustus
• Tiberius to Constantine
• The Dark Ages
• The Renaissance: Cities & Politics
• The Unification
• WWI - Mussolini
• WWII - Current
+ Histories of Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica ... etc (each with its own history)

Pick a topic.
