What are some good melodic death metal bands?
Melodic Death Metal is a pretty expansive genre. Most of the bands who perform in it have some external influence from another genre. I'll list the biggest bands I know off the top of my head, and I'll also put down their influence(s):In Flames (Alt Metal) Pioneers of the Genre, not so much Melodeath in their more recent stuff.Dark Tranquillity (Gothic/Prog Metal) Also Pioneers of the genre. one of the longest standing bands there is. Still writing good quality MelodeathAt The Gates (Straight up death metal) Also Pioneers of the genre, took a twenty year hiatus, then made a comeback on their latest album, At War With Reality.Arch Enemy (Thrash Metal) Long standing band, known for their female vocalists.Children of Bodom (Power Metal, Black Metal) Helped push Power Metal into the extreme metal region, one of the most popular bands out there.Be'Lakor: Straight up Melodeath, one of the most recent, and best bands out there. Great Australian sounds, with amazing vocalsAmon Amarth: Powerful band from Sweden known for their awesome melodies, and gut churning vocals, and Norse Mythology themed songs (Not that crap from Marvel, the real deal)Carcass (Grindcore/Goregrind) One of the pioneers of the genre, sat on the fence between Melodeath, and Grindcore. Recently made a comeback album Surgical Steel.Kalmah: Popular Finnish act very similar to Children of Bodom or Norther.Wintersun (Folk/Symphonic Metal): A quite recent, but upbeat and interesting group mixing Symphonic metal, folk metal, and Melodeath.Insomnium (Doom Metal): A Melodeath Act with very dark, powerful songs.Deadlock (Metalcore): A German band combining Groove/Metalcore influences with soaring female cleans and smooth electronic work. Rolling Thunder (Gotta push our stuff) (Symphonic, Grindcore, Alt Metal): My band, a relatively new, unheard of group from Australia with a thing for experimentation. We use as many as four vocalists, including the most terrifying Growls I've ever heard (And I've heard a lot). Also, I do the cleans for them. Hope this helps! :)
