What is my hair type, im so clueless?

It sounds like you just have curly hair. It's sad that your mom has kept chemicals on your hair so long that you don't even know what it's like without them. Try going natural for a while. Lots of African Americans are trying it nowadays, and it's not that hard to keep up with. Trust me, it's better than putting loads of chemicals on your head. Good luck!

Is a texturizer a good idea for my hair?

Your hair is manageable, which every hair type is. It is when you have no knowledge on how to care for your hair; the hair gets blamed instead of the persons knowledge when it comes to African American hair. If you feel that a texturizer is what you need then go for it, it will loosen your curls but if it is left on too long it can make the hair straight as a texturizer is just a relaxer but left on for less time or is not as strong. It is very easy to care for natural hair but people try to care for the hair as if they have a European hair and wonder why it is hard to care for, I will give you the basics and you can use Youtube for more information.

Things you need:
1.) A sulfate free shampoo (sulfates are very damaging on black hair, it causes dryness, damage, color fade, and frizziness.) Use brands like JASONS Naturals or Organix which you can get at Walgreens or Walmart.
2.) A moisturizing leave in conditioner (some women make a shea butter whip with 2 parts shea butter with 1 part natural oil. You can buy a leave in conditioner already made that is shea butter like Cantu)
3.) A sealant (our hair tends to be dry and moisture can escape easily, using a light natural oil like olive, coconut, castor, carrot, tea tree, jojoba etc. and apply this to the hair after the leave in conditioner or you can add it to your leave in conditioner and just have one step)
4.) A wide tooth comb and denman brush (Fine tooth combs are not made for our hair type and actually breaks the hair off while regular brushes break our hair off because of the plastic bristles, only comb hair when wet or damp, never dry as our hair is not meant to be combed)
5.) Sleep with a satin cap on or silk pillowcase (regular pillowcases break off the hair)
6.) Wash hair as often as you like, I think every other day or every three days is good.
7.) To define the curls, use Eco Styler Gel in Olive Oil. You shouldn't try to make your hair something that it isn't which is a looser curl pattern that everyone seems to think is better than a tighter curl pattern.

I have the worst type of hair possible.... Help???!??!?

My hair is fluffy, dry, ugly, curly, and most of all... Thick. I'm so sick of my hair I don't feel like straightening the darn thing. I've tried exactly 23 different hair products from different companies that claim to "straighten curly hair" but they just make my hair even FLUFFIER.

The straightening iron dries out my ALREADY DRY hair. And it take forever to straighten, so forget that.

I'm not African American. I actually wish I had their hair because it is smooth.

I practically give up. I heard about 100% silicone hair products, but my parents will not take me to walmart or target to look for them. And I don't know any brand of hair cream that is 100% silicone.

Any ideas before I rip my hair out? I can't get my hair flat, straight, ANYTHING.

Plus my head is round, NOT FAT, round shaped (if you went to beauty school you'd know) and I am quite thin.

Don't even say "Oh I would want your hair" because you WOULD NEVER.

----Sorry for the rant, but my hair is horrible.---------

Is smoothening a good idea for curly and rough hairs?

Here is my personal experience of hair smoothning and rebonding..I have had hairs near to straight, and as long as they reached my knees.I was really very bored with my hairs and wanted to make some changes, either a haircut, a haircolor or might be something else to make them exciting. My mum never allowed me cut my hair, trust me my hairs were like something she was really proud of, as every one kept asking her how did i get these so cool hairs and she felt proud. So i could not get a hair cut then, i decided i'll just get some style, when i went to loreal's sponsored salon, they told me they will have to cut my hairs from tips as they were damaged. Every parlor said the same. So i decided not to cut my hair, rather save some money for hair coloring or smoothening. After i guess 4 months, i wnt to a good salon and asked them how much would it be for coloring or smoothening.Checking my hair length, coloring (highlights) was 5000/- and smoothening was 6000/-. Dont't get shocked smoothening is basically 10,000rs but they were having some discounts that time ... so i thought let us go for smoothening. It was 6 hours of back pain...and they were like batteling with my hairs. I used loreal keratin smooth. After 6 hours, i was like wow. I was in love with my hairs. Jet black, heavy, shiny, full of volume and life. But then i realised they had cut my hair from tips. I was a bit sad after giving that much money i had to lose my hairs. But again the result was awesome. Then after 10 months or so i went for rebonding. That was not much up to the cost. I guess i went to wrong salon..But in the same salon my elder sister got smoothening done, she had very frizzy hairs. Now very smooth and straight. My smoothening lasted for 18 months. Its still the same but not that heavy. And my sister's hairs are straight too, she did that in November last year.

What great styles have you done with your kinky hair?

I have fine super-kinky hair, but man its war everyday. Have you got any ideas or tips I could use to funk it up a little bit? Something manageable for school and something fun for going out. I don't want to use too much product or heat styling. Plus I'd rather not braid all of it.
