Well, my questions to you are...how many years do i have to go to college?, what classes am i supposed to take?, and what are your opinions and experiences with physical education?

any answers will be appreciated! Thanks so much for helping me with my new career goal!

Is a physical education teacher being overpaid?

Absolutely not. I am a classroom teacher. I have 30 kids sitting in desks looking at me while I look at them. Desk configurations change, but it is still 30 kids in the same space, and while there is group work and role playing, we still start the class in desks, and I find it exceptionally easy to control all my classes.Physical education, teachers, however, may have 50 kids in a class, both boys and girls, who are in locker rooms changing clothes. Some change quickly and are out of the locker room pronto. Others linger, try to use cell phones, start fights - you name it, and the teacher cannot even go in the locker room of the opposite sex. Sometimes schools will provide a para-pro to the class, but most do not. This teacher has to now coach, train, control, and monitor all these kids, some of whom may be outside on the tennis court while others are playing basketball. Sometimes games are co-ed. but most of the time they are separated by gender. There are racquets, baseball bats, baseballs, golf clubs, weights, and lots of other equipment that can be used as weapons, or they can just be dangerous for some kids who are playing around and not paying attention. Then there is trying to teach sex education without offending parents. And the list goes on and on. PE teachers should make twice what other teachers make (remember, I am one of the “other” teachers), but I wouldn’t have their jobs for all the money in the world. And this also goes for the shop teachers (hammers chisels, saws, kids laying brick, building dog houses, etc.), transportation teachers, and anyone who has kids moving about in large, sometimes hidden, spaces with equipment that can main or kill. Thirty kids in a small room with desks is a piece of cake compared to what these other teachers do.

Should I become a high school teacher or physical therapist?

I wanted to become a Physical Therapist. However it takes 7 years of education to get there so why not pull off one more year and become a doctor completing medical school?

Physical Therapy now requires you to have a doctorate whereas a few years ago it only required a bachelors. A doctorate is 3 more years of school after you get your bachelors.
- Undergrad (4yr Bachelor Degree College)
- Doctorate (3yrs)

So instead I decided I would rather go to medical school which is one year longer thant Physical therapy totalling 8 years. Of course with medical school don't forget that you have to do 2-4 years of residency depending on your specialty, and the school is more expensive.

My look on Doctors vs. Physical Therapists...

The good:
- Much higher pay.
- PT with doctorates get payed about 70k-90k.
- Completing medical school however you will earn upwards of 100K start and much much higher later on, of course depending on your specialty and years of education and work experience.

The bad:
Much longer education to become a doctor.
- undergrad (4 yrs)
- med school (4 yrs)
- residency (2-4 yrs)
(Residency is on the job training of the medical specialty that you choose, and you start getting paid a salary there like 30-50K, something like that.)
- Also med school is very competetive, you need very good grades, strive for A's and B's and a 3.7+GPA.

Of course even though physical therapy is lower paying and less schooling, it is still very rewarding as is a career as a medical doctor.

Good luck!

Is a P.E teacher a good Job?

You will need to get your 4-year degree in Education: Physical Education (or whatever the equivalent is called in your state). In some states, you need a master's (another year or two) to begin teaching, and in others you need to get the master's after you've been teaching awhile to keep your job. Often the school will help pay for it in that case though.

P.E. is one of the harder subject areas to get a job in. You will have better chances of finding a position if there are a wide variety of sports you could coach or if you are very, very skilled at coaching a sport like football. If you want to teach, be prepared to move to a different area of the country if needed (some places are much harder to find a job in) and to take your first teaching job at a school that wouldn't be more experienced teachers' top choice (such as in an inner city).

If you truly love working with students and helping them improve in sports, then you'd probably enjoy being a P.E. teacher. Just make sure that you are prepared for potential challenges with finding a position.

Is being a teacher the easiest job ever?

1.Your work day is 7 hours, not 8 like most.
2. At my high school each teacher had a planning period, and lunch. So they had two hours each day of not actually teaching.
3. You have summers off.
4. You get every stupid holiday off.
5. Christmas break is exceptionally long
6. Safe working environment with no industrial noise.
7. Median nationwide salary is 55k
