That was a big shock for everybody and work on the plan was never the same as before from that point.Cory played Finn Hudson in Glee, a lot of plots were evolving around this characters. Creators of a serial couldn't leave his sudden disappearance without addressing to it. Therefore, fourth episode of fifth season was dedicated to Cory. Since he died, Finn also had to die. Episode was about all his friends mourning his deaths. There was a lot of tears during that episode, and I’m sure that non of them was fake.
