What is your review of the fashion merchandising major at Kent State University? Is it worth the cost? What's the starting salary one can expect after graduation?

Thanks for the A2A. Unfortunately, I went to Kent State almost 20 years ago, and was not a Fashion Merchandising Major… so I cannot specifically answer your question. From a broader perspective, I know in today’s society, we treat college like job training. With the exception of a few very technical fields, undergrad coursework will not prepare you for a job in the field. The point of an undergrad degree is force you into working toward a goal (graduation), and navigating life to reach that goal. In this way, a university education will provide you with the general skills to be successful at work.Accomplishing a goalWorking with othersSolving problemsResponsibilityStrategizingWhat it will not provide you with is the technical skills to do a job, fashion merchandising, or otherwise. You will still need to get into a fashion merchandising job, usually at entry level, and learn the technical skills just like everybody else. What college will help you prepare for is how to advance in that job quicker, because of the above skills.Colleges weed out your competition. About 40% of the people who start college, never graduate. So right off the bad, you have distinguished yourself from close to half the peopleKent State is a solid school. It has name recognition, it is accredited, it is generally worth the money to get an undergrad degree there. In every job interview I have ever had, the interviewer says something like… “oh, you went to Kent State?.. isn’t that where the shooting happened?” They are checking “graduated from college” off of a list of requirements. I have never been asked my major, what I learned in my major courses, or even whether or not the major was in the same field as the job I was applying for. Undergrad coursework IS NOT JOB TRAINING. It is “how to be successful” training. My advice, is to go to a school you can afford. Get a degree in what you are interested in, and when/if you want to go to graduate school, you can then ask questions like this, and probably will get better answers. I do hope you choose Kent though! It was a great school, and some of my favorite memories are from there. Good Luck.

Does anyone know what colleges accept penn foster high school diploma in the state of north carolina?

does anyone know what colleges accept penn foster high school diploma in the state of north carolina? im been seeing lots of things that not all colleges accepts this diploma ? Can i even go to a college in north carolina with this diploma? HELP ! need to know

What colleges accept Penn Fosters highschool diploma?

Can you give me a list of colleges that accept Penn Fosters highschool diploma? (I'm hoping Auburn University does)
Also, is there a way for me to leave Penn Foster and go back to regular school?
I'm about 49%-50% completed with the program, but I didn't know before I signed up that I would be complete high school entirely, I just wanted to finish 1 grade and go back to a Public or Private local school next year.
Since I finished about 49% - 50% of the work on Penn Foster does that qualify me as a 10th grader? Since I finished 9th grade before I started Penn Foster, will I be sent back to 10th grade if I try to go back to public school or will Penn Foster give me credits so I'll be able to reach 11th grade next year?

Thanks in advance.

Question about getting a degree from UMUC or any online college.?

Hello!
I attended UM UC in the early 90s. I had some truly outstanding Professors. I had a few that were less than stellar--I believe that is typical of any University experience. The courses were challenging, enlightening, and fulfilling. I have since gone on to have a very successful career in the business world. I started a computer training school which was later sold to a Fortune 100 company. I than ran a region and then a territory for that company for 8 years. I am now on my way to career number three--I will be starting at a Tier 1 Law School in the fall.
I hope my answer might be of some use to you!

How good is Virginia Tech?

I am assuming that you are asking how good of a University Virginia Tech is. Virginia Tech is and has been for years one of best Universities in the country. It was founded in 1872. I have always wondered why it was opened so soon after the Civil War, especially with VMI, its biggest rival for years, just down the road a bit. VMI was actually called up and fought a battle against the Union towards the end of the war. Speaking of the Civil War, we recently had a nationally known Civil War expert, who was a Professor retire. His name is Bud Robertson. Like VMI we were started as a Military School. The school is very proud of the Corp of Cadets and although they are a small part of our twenty some thousand students the Corp Band makes us one of three Universities with two Marching Bands. Tech like most Universities at that time was an Agriculture and Mechanic School just like Texas A&M. Curriculum wise, the Engineering department gets more accolades, but there are a number of Colleges within the University that are outstanding as well. Tech for years has been the largest Land Grant University in the country. Its nestled in the South Western Blue Ridge Mountains and although the Winters can be cold, spring is beautiful and Fall is fantastic. It perfect for Football. We played for a National Championship a few years ago. Last years NBA Player of the year Stephan Curry’s father who also played for years in the NBA was a Virginia Tech Star. Tech’s sports programs for men and women are second to none and the intramural program for non scholarship students is incredible. There are more groups or clubs than you can imagine to get involved with and believe it or not Virginia Tech Food Service has been voted number one in the country for several years. You will think you are in a restaurant. You are too young to remember the “Tony the Tiger “ Frosted Flake Commercials. It was half cartoon, half actor. Tony the Tiger would say there not good, there GREAT!! That’s a small glimpse of Virginia Tech. If you are interested in Tech, I urge you to visit. Oh and PS Money wise Tech is very reasonable.

Ohio State or University of Toledo?

First, University of Toledo IS a state school, in fact it has the third largest endowment in the state.
More importantly, there are books and research tools out there for you to help you with your decision (U.S. News and World Report, Princeton Review, etc...). These will lay out the pros and cons of each in greater detail.
While the general rule is to go to the best institution possible, keep in mind that premed courses tend to be very difficult and competitive and because it is also a good idea to major in one of these hard (i.e. technical) sciences, it will be harder to maintain that very important near perfect G.P.A.. If you were contemplating attending a top tier University (Berkeley, UVA, UCLA, Michigan) vs. OSU or UT I'd say the prestige of the University would outweigh the few B's you could get due to the increased competition, but less than stellar grades from OSU will not be impressive standing alone. And while there is going to be tough competition in the premed courses at both OSU and UT, I'm guessing that because there are so many more applicants at OSU, statistically, the competition will be tougher there. What it boils down to is protect your G.P.A. at all costs; all A's from UT is worth more than A's and B's from OSU. And while OSU may be higher ranked today, UT is growing and gaining ground every year with rankings on the rise and "most improved" mentions.
Also, your MCAT score is worth a great deal as well. This means that your dream of going to medical school is not dead upon receiving a bad grade. The higher your score, the lower your G.P.A. can be. However, the opposite is also true: the lower your score, the higher your G.P.A. must be. The MCAT is a difficult exam; most testers use the entire summer after their junior year to prepare.
Finally, let me reiterate my previous advice - do your research! Not just now, but throughout undergraduate school. It's surprising how many students jump into graduate and professional schools without knowing all the facts. Think hard about why you want to become a doctor. Is it really worth the time and money it will take to get you there? Is there some other career path in the medical field that will leave you just as fulfilled? Don't get discouraged, but it is important to know that the road to and after med school is long and hard and sacrifices will need to be made. Only when you understand the variables can you make this decision wisely.
