Anyone Else Obsessed With Their Cars

Is anyone else as obsessed with Volvo like me?

I am. I have owned Volvo's since 1999. Currently, I own 4 Volvo's and a Saab. I have a Volvo 240, V90, S80 and a V70 XC. I just can't trade the older one's in...I'm too attached to them. I had a wreck in my first S80 and people who witnessed the accident could not believe that I was able to 'jump' out the car and not have a scratch (it was a bad wreck and my car was stuck UP on a cement girder). After owning many cars (Fords, all GM's-except Cadillac, Dodge products, Toyota, Nissan) I like the Swedish cars best.

Is anyone obsessed with mustang cars?

I LOVE MUSTANGS, tell your husband is his the awesome. Mustangs are the most sexy, stylish, smooth, oh baby I can orgasm right now! My neighbor owns a 1965 red; flat; leather Mustang and I want it for my graduation gift so bad. I love Mustangs and your husband knows! He's a smart man...a smart man. (P.S. When I get my stang, I'm gonna be jamming Mustang Sally.)

Is anyone else totally obsessed with...?

Don't worry you're not alone in this. I am also obsessed with dead celebs. For example, when Heath Ledger died, I was so upset because I didn't get the chance to really know what type of a guy he was. Sure I know he's versatile and a very good actor, but I wanted to know more about him. So I went to a bookstore and bought a biography on him. (=

Is anyone else obsessed with their email?

Anyone else obsessed with thoughts of their child dying?

i have a baby girl she is almost 9 months old. I also have bipolar disorder but it is on the lower end of the scale. i do worry about things in general sometimes but i am recently always worried about my baby girl, or i should say of losing her. when she was a few weeks old at a well baby check up she showed white pupil reflex, and was sent to a specialist. it turned out to be nothing, just that her eyes were really small and it is common in babies to get the white reflex. however when i looked it up, it showed it was a sign of retinoblastoma. I worried so much and prayed and prayed that it wasnt cancer. then less than a month after the specialist appointment, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she is being treated for and is doing really well now. But now I am always worried i will lose my baby that she will get sick, or their will be an accident. I watched the story on Oprah the other day of the 3 kids in the car accident and i almost had a panic attack. I rarely take my baby in a car unless it is necessary and i have no babysitter, and usually only if my mom is driving. lost 2 friends this summer in a car accident and there were a lot of car accident deaths in my province this summer. Where i live also has the highest cancer rate in north america, and it seems like everyone i know is getting it. i know the odds of her getting sick, especially cancer, are so slim. And that she has a great chance of growing and having a long life. But i never wanted kids, and she was unplanned but I now know why I was put here on earth, to be her mom and to take care of animals. I love her more than ANYTHING in the world. she is so smart, strong, playful, beautiful. I mean at just over 7 months she cold snap her fingers, and actually make a snapping sound. She is amazing, she blows my mind! I have always messed up everything in my life and nothing ever works out. I am so scared that God will take her away like so many other things in my life. I know it is all irrational, and part of my anxiety disorder. Has anyone else ever felt like this and if so what did you do to snap out of it?

Does anyone have a husband who is obsessed with cars?

I think if I had wheels, he would pay more attention to me. I so totally understand what you are saying. I always told him he needed to have a career in cars, so we started an Auto Transport & Towing Business. He loves it. He is a really sweet guy, but that is what he does most of the time is look at cars, trucks, trailers, on ebay, or when we go somewhere he'll say, Wow did you see that truck?" like every few minutes. And I swear he knows the year make model, engine size, etc. of every vehicle he sees. I guess he could be worse, he could be looking at other women instead, which he doesn't do thank goodness.

When I worked at Morgan Stanley there was this guy, Tim, an MD who was on at least a couple of US$ million a year, who drove a 15 year old BMW 3-series convertible.I asked him why he drove a “piece of junk”. I remember his answer really well. “I don’t need a car to make up for my insecurities. I have personality.”Now, this guy did indeed bring more personality and energy to the trading floor than anyone else I’ve known. But his comment made me think hard about my own obsession with cars. Many years on I’ve come to this conclusion - in general, humans are deeply driven by insecurities, and guys that are obsessed with driving flash cars tend to have this obsession because they’re insecure.Cars are the most visible display of wealth and success, and, frankly, that is the main reason why most guys obsess over them.Which is why I find those that drive around in cars well below their means a sign of security, a sign of being at ease with themselves - which is a really beautiful and attractive quality.

We tend to call this demographic a petrol-head or maybe a Bogan in OZ.

You quite clearly need to be around cars. But rather than obsessing about it and maybe beating yourself up about it, and also finding it interrupting in your every day, why don't you grant yourself some space for this interest and actually go and be with some cars? You could volunteer to help at a race track or garage, or advertise to help someone restore a car in return for a modest income. There are lots of ways to earn the money for a car. Rather than beating yourself up about something which is not dangerous, illegal, immoral or otherwise harmful to you or anyone else, why not enjoy your interest  - so it has space and bothers you less during your other hours. If you share the fact that you want to earn enough to buy a car with others that you come into contact with around them, you never know what this may lead to. You could be offered a great opportunity to buy one at a discounted rate. This is what happened when we got our grand piano. I never thought i would own one. I had wanted one my whole life. Then one day, we went to see an old man who restored pianos. Just as we had given up hope, we saw one in the corner. He let me play it. It was utterly entranced. He offered is to us for a song. I could not believe it and even offered more. He insisted he would not take more than he had asked for - because he could see I loved it."I want you to have it because I know it will have meaning for you.." he said.I would bet money on something similar happening to you - if you start moving in the direction of your dreams and ask others for help. People like to help.
