1) The inscription now called the "Code of Hammurabi" may NOT be an actual "code" that he promulgated or used The introduction and epilogue suggest that Hammurabi wrote it to present himself as a model king of justice (a 'good shepherd' of his people, as kings were supposed to be), as the gods appointed him to be. The laws --which are not systematic or complete-- serve to illustrate his point... as if to say, 'this is how justice has been carried out under my rule'. If you did injury to someone on a lower social plane, the penalty was reduced (usually to a cash payment).

Has anyone had an ACTUAL experience with SIDS?
My son died of sids when he was ten weeks old. That was in 1986. Since then they have come up with some very different rules, such as not having a baby sleep on their tummy and not have anything in the bed with them, such as pillows and toys. At the time that my son died, and for a lot of years afterwards i had a very hard time with not obsessing on the details and the what ifs of it all. You get a fight-or-flight response that is later mentally backstopped via motivated reasoning, which is the process of bolstering needed assumptions and arriving at needed conclusions, basically using any means necessary. Identity as Defense and Partisan AnimositySo, yes. Let's favor facts over politics. But which group of people or processes of reasoning are we going to privilege? Whose facts and assumptions do we believe? Do we believe oilfield workers if they claim that climate change is a myth, or do we believe scientists? Should both oilfield workers and scientists have equal political power - i.e., should they have equal say in determining the direction of society?Moreover, how do you propose to bring in "facts" when over 1/3 of the United States is on board with Rudy Giuliani as he asserts (on behalf of the President) that "truth isn't truth"? My uncle was there. He was assigned to a secret project at the base. He was a mathmatician and engineer, and worked on airplanes. He would never say exactly, but after years of listening to stories, I think he worked on bomb delivery systems for military planes.He saw what “looked like small silver aliens”, but were dead chimps in silver reflective suits. I think they were exposed to bomb testing radiation, probably on a weather type balloon that possibly crashed, planned or not. The military base had available personnel walk a large area and collect “every” piece of man-made materiel in the ground. Then did it again.Soon after that, he was stationed in England until he retired. After a few years, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and given a nice private room at a VA home. What I noticed is he never fit the definition, but had extreme cognitive problems. For 25 years he walked around the locked down unit talking to people and being social. Didn't need help eating or bathing until the last year or so. He just had no idea who he was or where he was or when he was or who anybody else was. But he remembered old TV shows and movies. The VA did tests on him every 6 months. I think he was exposed to something or given something by the military. When he died, the immediate family was not told until he was cremated. He never had children.Only proof I have are three post cards sent from and postmarked Rosewell,NM. They are dated between June & August 1947. I found them in a small box of personal belongings sent to me after his death.

Yes. I've never read the book, but I too have thought this. Don't get me wrong I'll side with Katherine over Joe any day. However, I think that Joe had control over everyone in that family especially Katherine. I think he decided a long time ago that they were going to get their income from their children and she went along with him.
