Anyone Wanna Make Me A Book Cover

Should you judge a cover by its book?

You do it all the time. At least, you do if you’re a discriminating book buyer. Can the cover tell you everything? No. But it can tell you a lot.Looking for a well-written, literary book with strong feminist principles? How about this one:Or maybe you’re in the mood for a strong, adult police procedural. In that case you could always check out this book:I could go on, but you get the point. If you buy books, you’re doing a lot of judging by the cover. And the more experience you get, the better your judgement. The cover tells you many things. First of all, of course, there’s the author. If you already know you like Stephen King then his name on the cover is a good reason to pick it up. Then there’s the “seriousness” of the cover art. A cartoony cover tends to indicate a lighthearted book. The quality of the cover and binding often give clues about the regard in which the publishers hold the book. An old-fashioned looking cover probably means that the book is not written in a breezy, modern fashion — and vice versa, of course. The list is endless, and largely subconscious. There is a huge desire to say that we can’t judge a book by its cover because we want to stress that you can't always judge a person by their looks. But of course, we do that all the time too, and with quite a bit of accuracy. Do we get it wrong sometimes? Of course we do. But it’s better to be able to make fairly quick judgments based upon a brief observation, and then be willing to change that judgement as more is learned, than to pretend that all those massive clues you’re picking up that someone is intent on robbing you or being abusive towards you are irrelevant because you would never want to metaphorically “judge a book by its cover.”Hey there, you want to hang out together?

What are some good book cover ideas for Among The Hidden?

in the background one sees a house and 2 adults and what is apparently 2 children standing on the porch. the husband has a protective arm around the wife, each child hanging onto a parents leg or clothing. maybe more of a 'silhouette' than anything.

in the foreground approaching the house are soldiers with rifles, looking definitely 'not friendly'.

also in the foreground one can see what is certainly the face of a child peeking out from a bunch of low-lying bushes, a wood pile...

i know it won't be simple to draw, or just how it would play out on a book cover, but you get the idea.

but to keep it simple, you could have the face of the child peeking out, and there are booted feet marching by.

those would be the soldiers. there are soldiers, correct? haven't read the book.

there is a cover already, you know. (:

What happens if I want to publish a book but have no money?

That is good. If you have no money you will not be tempted to pay a vanity publisher.Instead you will have to work as hard as the best authors to hone your craft and then create a great novel or nonfiction work which will be accepted by a legitimate publisher who will pay you a royalty based on salesVisit Writers Market or acquire a used version of that book for information on publishers and how to contact them and how to write query lettersAlways think of your readers as your potential customers and consider what they will pay for your bookMost publishers pay 5 to 10 percent of retail but if they think they can sell 10 000 copies you will make enough for your efforts …if not they won’t offer a contractIf you do your job well second and third editions will bring more money. If you fail to do your job well run off a copy for yourself on Create sapce at Amazon and work harder on the next book.If you dont want to do this….no problem. There are millions of wannabe authors ready to try to take your place. Most will fail because they think they can write a book over the weekend and sell movie rights by MondayThat is not how it works as any best selling author will tell youNow get to WORK

Has anyone read lyddie?

Can I publish a book anonymously?

You can absolutely choose to publish under a pen name.Authors have been choosing different names for years.  J.K. Rowlings doesn't have a middle name but she chose initials and a made up the middle initial because it sounded better and she was told a women's name wasn't best for selling a book on wizards and magic.Doctor Suess chose his name because he was banned from writing at his college magazine...so he made an alias. But no matter why you choose to use a pen name, authors have been doing it for years...even the best ones.  How to Publish AnonymouslyWhen you go to publish your book, just enter any name you want as the author.  There is nothing against that...pretty simple. And don't worry, Amazon or any other retailer will not publish the name of the account holder.  It will only show the author of the book and any other name of the contributor as well.Reasons Why You Would Want To:For each person, there is a different reason.  Here are a couple of reasons why someone should consider using a pen name:Protect yourselfYour name doesn't reflect or convey what you wantYour name is too close to someone else'sYour name is hard to pronounce or rememberYou want to separate your writing life from your personal lifeThere are many other reasons out there, but these seem to be important to many people.  Tips on Choosing a NameIf you do decide to use a pen name, make sure you really think about it before hand. The selection of your name can be very important.  It takes up prime real-estate on your book cover, and will be the brand you use as you write more books.  Try to make sure your name connects with your target market.  If your target market is middle aged women, then you might not want a name of Ron or something like that. A name can have connotation and denote age of the author. One thing I like to do is that say I want my name to sound like its of a 40-50 year old.  Then I will go into a name database like BabyCenter and select the year that I want...like Top baby names of 1952.  From there I will choose a name.   Get More Self Publishing TipsIf you would like more tips like this in the self-publishing world and how you can market your ebooks better, check out my website: Kindlepreneur - Book Marketing for Self-Publishing Authors

If I want to make a book, what publisher should I choose and what are some good signs of an honest publisher?

As a rule, YOU don’t choose a traditional book publisher. The PUBLISHER chooses you. Or (more likely), doesn’t choose you. So you’ll be submitting to quite a number of publishers until (if you are lucky), you find one that wants to publish you. What you want to avoid are publishers that will simply allow YOU to choose THEM. As a rule, these are vanity publishers. Some are reputable, most are not, nearly all will charge you to publish your book, rather than paying you to publish your book.In traditional publishing, Zog’s Law applies: “Money flows toward the writer.” So a good sign of a dishonest publisher is that they expect you to pay fees associated with publishing your book (editorial fees, cover art, production costs, marketing services, etc.).There are some honest publishers who’ve adopted the “author pays” model, and of course, all self-published indie writers are living by the “author pays” model. But if you’re looking at these “author pays” services, you should be very clear about how book publishing and marketing works, and you should ask some very pointed questions about what exactly you can expect from them. You should do a great deal of homework, including checking their references, finding their listing (if any) on Writer Beware®: The Blog, and investigating their Better Business Bureau listings.Even a traditional publisher who “pays” their authors may not be honest, as there are all kinds of creative and shady accounting practices that can leave an author unpaid, despite otherwise successful unit sales of their book.I strongly recommend that you have a contract lawyer familiar with intellectual property law review any publisher’s contract before signing it.

How do i get rid of textbook water damage?

If it's still wet, blow dry it, holding the pages straight so they won't stick to their wrinkled shape. If it's dry, make the pages as flat as you can, then put a very heavy object on top of the book (but let the spine stick out). This will help straighten them.
Explain to whomever is in charge of textbooks at your school that the book accidentally got wet in the rain. This happens more often than you think, and you probably won't have to pay any fine. Plus, the book will look a lot better when it's dry, so don't despair until you see what it looks like when it's dried out.
