Anyone With A College Degree Working As A Waitress

What do you do when you're a waiter or waitress with a college degree?

I’m not a waiter. I’m a mower jockey at a golf course. Don’t let my bachelor’s in math and BS equivalent in physics fool you. I mow grass all Summer.TBH, it’s not uncommon for folks with degrees to work jobs that do not require a college education. But that doesn’t mean we are slackers or that we’re wasting our education. When I clock in, my boss expects me to give 100% to the job and use my brain to make the job more efficient. (OK, one time I was told to clock out early because I got finished too quickly.) I assume a restaurant manager would expect the same from a waiter or waitress with a degree.

Why did Alexandria Cortez continue to work as a waitress/bartender with a prestigious economics degree?

Why did Alexandria Cortez continue to work as a waitress/bartender with a prestigious economics degree?Because her wealthy architect father died when she was 19 and it took years of lengthy legal battle, she and her mother had nowhere near the same income. In the real world, people aren’t always inheritors of multimillion funds or able to tape a parent a few times for multimillion dollar loans, Pat Westmoreland.04/09/19: Edited to add.Erik Painter corrected me on my characterization of AOC’s father’s status as wealthy: he ran a landscaping business.

Have the value of a college degree been degraded? Is it the new High school?

You can't get an A in an advanced physics class just by studying hard - you must understand the material, and that requires being smart. As do advanced classes in many fields. People are getting A's because they're working for them, especially at places like Harvard that are full of overachievers. But it's certainly true that far too many colleges are giving away degrees for work that would fail people out 20 years ago. Those people aren't graduating with 4.0's, but they are graduating and probably shouldn't be. Same with high school - they pass everyone just for showing up. It used to be an achievement.

Is being a waitress considered a good job?

I waitressed for 3 years while I went to college! It was a great job for ME at the time...=)

Was Sonia Gandhi really a waitress in a bar?

I have lived and worked in Cambridge for 2 years, so I think I can do justice to the question. To showcase just about my knowledge Cambridge, Cambridge University has not had any campus or body, but it is group of degree colleges in Cambridge. Coming back to Soniaji, She had never studied in Cambridge University. No, I am not saying this with the record of Subramanyam Swami, but with the record of the people, I came across in Cambridge. The told facts are:She was a less educated migrant came from Italy like 100 thousand girls /guys enter from Europe to Great Britain every year. Great Britain is a major attraction for European people for job opportunities where they can come and work without any visa. Most of these thousand boy migrants with less education/without education and broken English, indulge in begging, stealing, robbing or becoming drug-peddlersHIGH NO of these girls (PLEASE READ NOT ALL) work in strip clubs/prostitution else become waitress as these are the only jobs to land in wit less education/without education and broken English (If anyone thinks Indian are bad in English, try speaking to these migrants, you will change your opinion for sure)This was the main reason behind Great Britain to exit from the European Union. As local people say “ If we need Thieves/beggars, we have plenty of our people fitting in this job. We do not need EU Migrants”She was one such girl migrant with less education and broken English who was working in one white colored cafe/bar near The REGAL Nightclub, second last in the same lane.P.S: I did not study in Cambridge but I have worked in one project and lived in Cambridge for 2 years. You can work and manage with 250 english words in IT, If you know HOW to use them.My grammar issues could be because of I did not attend Cambridge for English literature course, Like her. Please do not drop your plan to study in Cambridge because of my deprived and poor English knowledge.

Why are college educated people working in menial jobs like a waiter in a restaurant?

Because the job market is terrible! I know so many people with college degrees that are unemployed or working part time low wage jobs. Our jobs are going over seas so they can pay lowere wages. The problem with this is they still expect Americans to purchase these goods yet when we have high unemployment and low wages, people can not afford to purchase these goods any more. It's a sad state we live in!

Is some college better than none when looking for a job?

Yes, in your case you need to clarrify on the resume that you did not complete college due to funding and expect to continue your education. This hold much more credit then say getting expelled or dropping out due to not knowing what you want to do. (or flunking out)

Just be clear on your goals for a job and your goals for future education. Employers understand that life (and money) get in the way of goals at times. So long as your goals are clear - they will expect to to work toward them.

additional:

Under resume education - list degree working on 3 years
Imcomplete due to funding. Intent to complete within XX timeframe. 4 years 5 years - whatever is fairly real and can be expalined in an interview very briefly. example:I hope to be able to take night classes at UNiv X and complete my degree within 4 years.

What have you done with your BSW degree?

I've had a smack of reality, I was going to the community college for medical administration...it's not for me. I made 17k as a waitress for gods sake...that degree would only get me maybe 5k more a year? It's not worth the time, the effort...and I didnt like the courses. I went back to my basic thoughts, before I gave up on the idea of transfering to a university. Some people tell me right off the bat, you must have a MSW, blah blah...and I'm NOT saying I would NEVER get one. But I would like to get a family started, get some family goals made before I go back to school. My advisors, as well as research I have done has shown that there are positions out there that I can start with...they just arent big money to start. So what have YOU done with your degree? Be serious...I already work in a restaurant, so don't suggest a restaurant. Just honest answers, not ridiclous ones.

for anyone that has no idea what I'm talking about, Bachelors in Social Work, accredited program...not a degree in human services.

Why would someone be a nurse instead of a waitress; don't they like getting tipped and making five times as much?

Ah. Well, most waitresses don’t hold PhDs in their professions. I was a waitress at one time. Not knocking them, it is a hard job.Nursing is a complex and difficult profession, requiring college degrees, continuing education and a strengths in multiple areas, brains, and abilities. It also is, IMHO, something of a calling. Additionally, nurses can make decent money. So, not sure what you think nursing is, but it is very different from where I am standing. In fact, there are lots of memes about, I’m not your waitress I’m here to save your life in nursing because of exactly this sort of thinking.

I m so scared of not finding a job after college?

i m currently getting my bachelor s in accounting. i work now as a waitress. i ve just randomly started stressing out on the "what if I don t find a job!!"
