Where can I find the answers for John J. Newman's AP United States History review book multiple choice Qs?

I read many reviews praising John J. Newman's "United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination" as the best review book out there to review for the AP US History Exam. While the content may be good, the answers to the multiple choice questions are no where to be found in the book. It would really be helpful in my review process if I knew that I was actually getting the practice questions right.

So does anyone know where I can find a list of answers to the multiple choice questions in this book?

How can I do well in AP United States History?

1. I would not recommend taking 3 AP classes when have never taken one and they all involve the same type of work (in your case, reading). College, and as a consequence AP classes, requires a lot of reading. The fact that you say you want to learn time management skills throughout the year is also a bad sign, because with that schedule you should have already top-notch time management. Especially with reading, people tend to underestimate just how uch time they will need to read. And in my experience, APUSH textbook reading is very dense so skimming doesn't work. Remember that, skimming won't work.2. Quizlet is extremely helpful in classes like APUSH. After you read, summarizing some key terms up on quizlet and going through them whenever you have time (if you have a smartphone or tablet) will really help you remember information.3. As for remembering, I had this issue as well in my APUSH and WHAP classes (World History AP). You don't need to know the answer to every question, that's sort of impossible. This is not like other classes; the information is dense and very interconnected. The only way to participate better in class is to consistently review notes. What I noticed is usually I can't recall much the first day we start getting lectures on the chapter we read, but as the days progress it gets much easier. I also noticed this with other students in my class. This is why things like Quizlet and simply reviewing you notes every day will do you a lot of good.4. Don't read the chapter all in one night. Seriously, I did this way too often, and it usually ended up in me not finishing the chapter, or having to read in school (which meant I had to carry that huge textbook around all day). Like I said, the reading will take you more than you think. If you think it'll take you 1 hour, multiply by 3. Yes, 3. And do you want to read for 3 hours in one night? No. So do it throughout several days. I always got at least 3 days to read a chapter, but it was usually 5-7 days. The textbook has bigger pages and smaller font than your average novel. It's also drier and move information-dense. So however fast you may read during your free time, you will always read much slower for class. If you do manage to get a chapter read in under an hour or so, you probably didn't read closely enough and will recall little.

Answer key for the United States History Amsco AP Exam booklet?

Shadra,

I have compiled the answers to the multiple choice sections at the end of each chapter in an online document here: http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=df2699ps_93ct826bdn

Unfortunately, I do not have an answer key to the practice exam in the back of the book. Sorry about that. Hope you do well on the exam.

AP U.S History?

I agree with reading the first chapter...that's how Zinn writes...introduces his goals are agrument in the first chapter and then begins...

And I hugely recommend his new book "A Power Governments Cannot Surpress"....veryveryvery good if you like the idea of the ppl being in control of our government...b/c if we stand up through civil disobidence for the right cause...we could cause many changes....that's what it's about.

Could you compare and contrast AP United States History and AP European History?

I took AP euro in 10th grade. It's the first AP class a high schooler in my school can take. The class was the hardest I had taken in my life. There was a ton of homework every day, and nobody got even a B on the first test before the curve. Every test meant stress and late nights. The weeks leading up to the exam were filled with studying five hours a day, past midnight, notes spread all over my entire room floor. Many tears were shed because of that class. In retrospect however, it was a positive (although I might not think so had I not gotten a 5). I love history, and Europe is in my opinion the most interesting part of the world to study because it was the center of everything. I learned so much. Unfortunately I don't remember much.Compare that now to APUSH, which I am currently taking.I rarely have homework.I study for maybe an hour before a test.I studied for a couple hours before the final.I've aced every test and it was my highest grade this past semester. It's my favourite class. Also I haven't read the book—I bought a study book a couple weeks into the class that gives summaries of all the time periods. However, don't take this to mean that APUSH in itself is loads easier than Euro. I am of the belief that if they had been switched, if I had taken APUSH in tenth grade and Euro now, I would be saying APUSH was hard and Euro is a breeze.Because Euro is our first AP class, it's overwhelming and we take it extremely seriously. We don't yet understand the format of the test, we don't know how to write, we don't know how to study. However, once we finish it, we emerge with confidence because of the invaluable skills we learned. I believe experience in one makes the other ten times easier. In terms of tests and content, I don't see a huge difference between the two. It's just a lot easier now.Another huge factor in classes is teachers. My APUSH teacher is my favourite in all of history (Ha! History! Cuz it's US history? Right? Anyways….) so he's a huge reason I love the class.Homework levels may also vary from teacher to teacher. In summary….Euro was harder and a lot more stressful, but possibly only because it's the first AP. I enjoyed or am enjoying both classes, despite whatever tears fell.
