Ap World History For A Freshman

Did any of you take AP World History as a freshman?

I took AP world as a sophomore, because my school, and most schools don't offer it for freshman. And the work load for any AP class is way more than a regular class, so yes it will be hard. But you said you are good in history, so definitely try it. If its too hard, you can drop it. Make sure you study a lot, and get the Princeton review book before you start next year. You should review everything you learn in class every week, by going over it in your review book. I used the review book and i got a 5 on my exam, And do not wait till the last minute to study for the AP exam, start studying a month in advance (though I did procrastinate, and studied 3 days before the exam). The class goes really quickly; my teacher was covering one chapter in one week, and the chapters are very long. Your teacher probably will give you as summer packet, so make sure you do that. You will also be writing many essays, my teacher assigned two essays every month, so make sure your ready for that. However even though it might sound demanding, it will get easy later in the year. Good luck.

Should i take AP world history as a freshman?

ok so at my high school you are not required to take a history class freshman year, but if you don't take ap world history then when you are in 10th grade you have to choose between that and ap european history, you can't take both. therefore if i don't take world history next year then ill miss out on one of these classes. I don't want to waste an opportunity, but then again i don't know if it will be manageable. I am training professionally for tennis(i play about 15 hours a week) and i will most probably end up on the JV or Varsity tennis team next year. I'm going into tournaments in a few months and this will probably take up a lot of time. Im in gate and i already completed algebra 1 last year, and i am doing geometry this year. i will be doing ATMS next year which means i will already be in accelerated classes: ATMS algebra 2/trigg accel, ATMS English 1 accel, ATMS biology. I'm taking Spanish 2 because I'm doing spanish 1 right now. For my elective i'm doing orchestra, as i have been playing the violin since 4rth grade. So basically my question is should i take this extra course which is not required just to take advantage of the classes offered? i will already have a lot on my plate and a lot of advanced classes so i know it will be hard. Im wondering if the class is really as difficult as i heard it is. Thanks for your time!

Should I take honors world history as a freshman?

I wouldn't take it. It sounds like you are already going to be challenging yourself with 3 honors classes. It will look excellent on a college application to have a good GPA as well as honors classes. The exact number of honors classes doesn't matter so I would try to keep your GPA up since you don't like history anyways.
Edit: Plus you get more scholarships if you have a higher GPA. I know it's not good to only worry about GPA but since you are already taking enough honors courses it is fine to not take honors world history. And you won't want a really hard, stressful workload because you will be adjusting to high school for the first time which tends to be a little different than junior high.

How do I survive AP World History freshman year?

First off, take a deep breath. It’s perfectly possible to do well in AP World — I did, and I have a lot of friends who did. Some tips:Don’t fall behind on your readings — If your class is at all like mine, most of the test and quiz points will be straight out of the readings. Use this to your advantage!Develop an efficient note-taking strategy — This ties into the first point. Figure out what helps you learn quickly and remember the most. Also, abbreviations are your friend (trust me, writing SA 2o times over sucks a whole lot less than writing South America).Categorize things — AP World is all about categorizing information into different categories and time periods. So instead of trying to remember a bunch of random facts about early history, learn it as the economy of Mesopotamia, the religion of the Indus, etc. It seems a lot less intimidating when you do it this wayThe essays — The most dreaded part of any AP history class. Fortunately, they don’t have to be as hard as they seem. First, learn the rubrics — if you do what’s on the rubric, the grader HAS to give you the points (at least, the basic core, which should get you an A-). Second, do practice outlines. You don’t need to write the whole essays (that would take way too long), but knowing what you would write should you get a specific question is really good essay and content review. Also, keep in mind the essays usually ask about categories (how Russia’s political institutions changed over a period) — pointer 3 comes in handy here. All in all, AP World doesn’t have to be a struggle. It’ll be tough, sure, but after AP World, all your other APs will seem like a breeze! So just use the pointers above (or don’t — they are just what worked for me personally), do your best, and don’t forget to have fun your Freshman year.

Is AP World History a hard class as a freshman?

I'm going into my freshman year of high school after this summer and my teachers recommended me for AP World History. I've been reading up on some people's opinions and from the sound of it the class is one of the worst? Is it really that bad? Is it hard? What kind of things do you do in the class? Are there oral exams? Thanks

Should I take AP World History as a freshman? (Please Answer)?

I am going to be taking Geometry Honors, English 9 Honors, Biology Honors, and French 1. I am worried that if I take AP World History it will be too much work. I'd have to read an average of 10 pages per night along with everything else I'll be doing. I've also heard that freshmen typically do worse on the final test. But I want to raise my GPA and just get that class over with so I can do the electives I actually want. And there's a decent amount of peer pressure to be in the highest classes and apparently most freshmen are in AP World History and barely any of them struggle. But my current teaches have been telling all of us not to take it as freshmen. So what should I do and why? I have to pick my classes tomorrow and I still have no idea.

I am taking AP World History as a freshman. What are some tips to help me get an A in the class and a 5 on the test? I have the whole summer to study.

I taken AP world this year as a sophomore, and really don’t recommend it for freshmen, but not all freshmen prepare for AP during the summer. The AP world I took this year will be different from the AP world that you are going to take. This year I had to study 6 periods from prehistory to 2010. However according to college board the new test for 2019 to 2020 will talking things like only from 1450 to 1900, meaning only periods 4 to 6.Hearing this news made me very furious because college board does this thing a lot, which is a slap in the face to students like me that study the the roman and greek civilzations and the everything about early history. But for you this is a advantage , because it allows you to have a deeper analysis of what happened from 1400 to 1900. To better understand watching crash course videos in this time frame, will help immensely. Also please buy a really good prep book to help, but I dont know if books that have the new format in mind are out yet. Also learn how to write DBQ, SRQ, and LEQ. DBQ involves you writing a essay using the documents given to you( please try to use all the documents), while the LEQ involves you writing a essay that discuss anything in the time lien given that answers the questions. Unlike DBQ this involves what you know, and for SRQ you are simply answer a question, but to receive full point answer the question, provide example/ evidence, and explain. Doing all those three things is not only way you gonna get the points.Hopefully since they vut the material in half it doesn’t take that long to master the material, but also try to review content in periuods 1–3( pre-hististory to 1400) that might be need to talk about periods 4 to 6.I know this is a lot of information, but they don’t call AP world one of the hardest APs for a reason. If you have any questions please ask, and I will try to answer it

Have a B in AP WORLD History?

The last time I checked my online grade account, I had a B as my grade for AP world history. But, I think it might turn into a C once my teacher updates my grades.

Will a C or a B ruin my chances of getting into an ivy league college?

By the way, I'm taking AP world as a HS freshman.

The course isn't that hard, it's just that I'm making really stupid mistakes on tests that cause me to get horrible grades on quizzes and tests. I also did an AP world essay today really well, but on the wrong topic (the essay counts as a homework grade, out of 5 pts). I might get a 0 on this assignment. I'm really worried that it'll drop my grade to a C.

Argh.

So tell me what you think: will having a B or a C ruin my chance of getting into an ivy league like Yale?

Btw, my other grades are A and higher. AP world is the subject that i'm really in trouble with.

How will getting a C in a AP World History class in freshman year affect my application to prestigious universities?

I have good news and bad news. The good news is that, at top ranked universities, grades are only a very small part of your application. What they look for are people who they deem "interesting", and a 4.0 GPA does not make you interesting. As long as you have the rest of the package - extracurriculars, leadership, your personal story - and demonstrate that you fit at the college, you will be fine. The bad news is that the same top ranked universities get a lot of applications from interesting people and can afford to pick and choose. When they're picking and choosing, your grades will matter. If they see you have a C, you should probably include an explaination for the grade through your app or counselor, or it may work to your detriment. At the end of the day, just remember that the college you attend matters far less than what you make of the opportunity. If they don't take you because you have a C, excel elsewhere and prove them wrong.Good luck!
