Archie Moore Vs Sam Langford. Who Wins

Sam Langford vs Rocky Marciano. Who wins?

Hello Matt! Great match as usual sir, thanks! Sam Langford was certainly an all time great and certainly the greatest to never even get a chance for a Championship because if so, he would have probably held titles in several weight classes as he fought from lightweight all the way to heavyweight. He was about 5'8" with a long reach for a man that height and had enormous punching power having 117 career knockouts. He fought all the great black fighters of the day from Jack Johnson to Joe Jeanette, to Harry Wills, to Sam McVey and also defeated fighters like Joe Gans and Philadelphia Jack O'Brien. Rocky Marciano was well known for his undefeated record at 49-0-0 with 43 kayo's and as the man who refused to lose. Despite having a short rech and being small for a heavyweight he had the tenacity of a pit bull in the ring with great power and determination. He was also very underrated defensively and though not a defensive fighter, wasn't as easy to tag cleanly as some believe. He defeated such men as Archie Moore, Jersey Joe Walcott, and Ezzard Charles. Here's how I see this fight going:

The Fight

In the early to mid rounds the crowd would be constatnly on their feet as both men deal out some rather severe punishment to each other in what would turn out to be a test of attrition and of wills. Langford would hold his own and trade fairly evenly with the Rock until about the 9th round when Marciano lands his patented Suzy Q right hand as Langford is coming in and it spells dom for Langford who hits the canvas hard. He gets to his feet at the count of 9 but the referee stops the fight.

Marciano WTKO9

Dream fight. Sam Langford vs Marvin Hagler. Who wins?

marvin hagler was a brilliant world champ who had it all a great boxing brain an amazing chin a will to win second to none .while sam langford had an incredible career over many weights he never dominated a weight like the marvellous one did .the only way to beat hagler was by boxing him from out side behind the jab with lots of lateral movement which wasn't langfords style i can't imagine that langford hit harder than hearns and mugabi so a ko for langford seems unlikely .hagler was a great 15 round fighter that turned the pressure up on his opponents as the the fight went on ,his stamina was what beat duran over the last 3 rounds so i just can't see a 5"6 fighter like langford beating hagler so for me i go for hagler by clear points win or late stoppage ..

Prime Sam Langford vs prime Joe Louis. Who wins?

Joe Louis is probably the most fundamentially correct boxer to ever hold the title. Wladimir Klitschko is a close second. This isn't to say that both are better than the rest. They're certainly beatable, but they do everything by the book.

You'd be surprised at how much Louis actually learned from Sam Langford. His trainer, "Chappie" Blackburn, and Langford fought many times and were very good friends. Before these two "Merlins" molded Louis into the perfect fighting machine, he had a ton of flaws.

However, by the time Louis reached his prime, he was near unbeatable and even a prime Sam Langford would have been too naturally small to solve this puzzle. Langford would certainly have gotten his shots in. He would come close to stopping Louis, after eight rounds of chess. He catches Louis cold and puts him on the floor in round nine. Louis is up on shaky legs and works his way back into the fight.

In round 11, Louis returns the favor, shaking "Ol Tham" with a solid right. Doing what he was taught so well to do, Louis doesn't let Langford off the hook.

Louis by KO in 11.

Sam Langford vs Ezzard Charles. Who wins?

Excellent match-up. I could see this fight very easily go either way. Sam's power is just off the scales, so he poses a problem when matched with almost anyone in boxing's history. What little footage there is of Sam shows a fighter who could cut off the ring very effectively. And with his devastating body attack, that turned opponents into pudding and broke them down, its easily conceivable Sam scoring a late Ko over Charles. Also in view of the fact that sometimes Ezzard would wade in and brawl, this could prove to be a bad mistake with Sam costing Charles. We could view it much like the Charles-Maricano match. But many feel Charles was starting on the downside having lost some speed, reflexes and leg (watching film of Ezzard at this time his footwork wasn't up to his former level.) But we are talking Prime vs. Prime.
However, on the other side of the coin a prime Charles had some very good footwork. That may just be enough to keep a 'cutting off' Sam from setting up. If we took Archie Moore (with his great ko punching skills) and Charley Burley (with his great boxing Skills) and rolled them into one we would have a pretty fair representation of Sam Langford. Yet a prime Charles beat these great fighters. So one could just as easily see Ezzard winning this match-up as well.
So we could look at this in the view of how the smaller, tough and hard hitting Marciano beat Charles and lean toward Langford as the winner. Or we could look at it of how a skilled Charles beat a ko artist in Archie Moore or how he beat a very great in the likes of Charley Burley. And even the fact Jack Johnson beat Sam and I feel Jack's leg/footwork is not as good as Ezzard's.
Again toughguy, very hard match-up to call. But prime to prime I very slightly will lean to a Charles win in a very tough fight. In a series I think they would split some wins.

Jack Johnson vs Archie Moore @heavyweight?

As great as Moore was and as much as boxing advanced between Johnson's day and Moore's day I would still pick Johnson. One fact that I can't ignore is the fact that Moore faced four world heavyweight champions, Ezzard Charles (three times) Rocky Marciano, Floyd Patterson and Muhammad Ali, he didn't manage a single win against any of them.
Moore had a few wins over heavyweight contenders such as Nino Valdez and Pete Rademacher but was at his best as a light heavyweight and fell short against the best heavyweights.
Johnson was ahead of his time skill wise, he would pick punches out of mid air with an open glove and counter with hard punches. He was an expert at making an opponent fight his fight and frustrating opponents.
Some people doubt Johnson but almost all of them would put Johnson in the top ten of all time great heavyweights and whilst Moore beat a few contenders at heavyweight I would pick any of the top fifteen all time great heavyweights to win over him.
The fight: Moore would try but for all of his skill he would not be big enough or fast enough to trouble Johnson, Johnson either coasts to a UD or if he is in a serious mood stops the brave Moore late.
Johnson TKO14.

Are Sam Moore chair's collectable?

what i would do is try and find out if there is a market for it any where online and see the price that people are willing to pay for it, a collectible is only such if it is desired. if you love this chair you should get it, never buy something unless you like it whether it is worth something to you. check out the online auctions or ebay for chairs or other furniture by sam moore or just wiki his name and see what you find, you may find links that will let you know exactly what you need to know

Who would win between Ernie Terrell or Ezzard Charles?

Charles he was a great boxer who wasn’t stopped until he was probably already suffering from Lou gerigs disease. He was a great golden age fighter who doesn’t whiff of credit he should! Ernie Terrell ? I was discussing him with John McGlothlin the other day! I remarked that he wasn’t the same after his Muhammad Ali fight, where he kept calling him Clay! John pointed out rightly I believe that Earnie would have whipped Anthony Joshua to a fair d well as he could box and punch and was 6ft 6 inches! Nonetheless he couldn’t have beat the prime Charles who whipped Louis, Walcott, so easily! And I believe he was only non heavyweight to stop Archie Moore! Charles by decision on points over Terrell!

Who is the pound-for-pound hardest hitting boxer of all time?

How would Bernard Hopkins do against Marvin Hagler, Bennie Briscoe, and Eddie Mustafa Muhammad in title fights?

I have him losing to Hagler, beating Briscoe and scraping past Muhammad. Hagler was arguably the greatest middleweight champion ever, and as mentioned, could do it all. At middleweight, they were fairly similar, aggressive, but adept at counter-punching too, with Hagler being able to switch-hit effectively. Hagler also carried that bit more power, so I think on balance he’d edge a close decision.Briscoe was a good contender in a very good era. In any other, he possibly would have picked up a title, but I don’t think that would be enough against someone who is one of the greats at middleweight in his own right.Muhammad was one of the three 1980s African American Muslim converts at around light-heavyweight, and like Dwight Muhammad Qawi and Matthew Saad Muhammad, at his best, he was absolutely brutal. The version that beat Marvin Johnson could well have beaten Hopkins, but I don’t know if he’d be able to reproduce this kind of form. Hopkins on the other hand was much more consistent, more often than not, I think he wins…just!
