Are Diamonds Really An Investment

Is buying a diamond ring a good investment?

There is a tremendous mark-up between wholesale and retail prices for diamonds. You should expect to get approximately half the retail price when selling. That means the price of a diamond has to double before you can sell it back for the price you bought it at. Other jewelry is usually even harder to sell. I have bought two diamond rings for my wife and she loves them. However, I don't think of them as investments. Diamond prices over the recent 25 years have not kept up with inflation, so don't expect great increases in price in the future.

Is diamond jewelry a good investment?

Diamond jewelry in the way that you are looking at it is not a good investment.

Here is the scoop. Diamonds always go up in value, but you will never get the asking price for the stone you are looking to sell. If you purchase a stone and pay $1000, if will def. be worth more in 10 years, but you'll prob. end up selling it for $500-800 to a jeweler. Jewelers buy at their wholesale cost, or lower than that from people off the street, and so you do not get the "appraised at" value.

So, even though your appraised value goes up, it doesn't mean you'll be able to sell it for that kind of money.

Do diamonds really have any resale value?

Diamonds have significant resale value but the price you can get would be always a bit lower than the ruling wholesale price for your diamond. Why would someone buy higher from you when there are a whole bunch of wholesalers ready to sell off diamonds lower than their nearest competitor? Is Diamond worth an Investment? No. Being in the trade I can surely say diamonds have definitely zero investment value. Diamonds do retain their value but price appreciations are extremely low. If you are among the entire crop of the not so super super rich I would never suggest investing in a diamond. Only few rare pieces are worth their investment which almost 99 percent of the diamond buyers cannot afford.Branded Diamonds are they worth it?No. If you have bought from a branded Jeweler you would have paid a markup of 4–5 times their original cost. So what you realize on your sale from a pawn shop or a jeweler would definitely not be much. If you have something branded you would be best off trying to convince your friends or family to buy it off from you if they are looking for a branded purchase or you could even try your luck online if you have the proper purchase bills and diamond certificates.Where to buy diamonds at the best prices? To buy best diamonds at the most reasonable wholesale prices you can approach a diamond wholesale trader like Shining Rock Jewellery. What are diamonds worth, or are they really worthless?

Diamonds are worthless in that they do not have an intrinsic value. However, due to a simple supply and demand relationship we value them highly due to a very scarce supply. Imagine if diamonds would have been as abundant as, let's say, almonds. Nobody would wear them. We value scarcity because that allows us to stand apart. The more we can distinguish ourself from the rest, the more we pay. That being said, actually diamonds have some practical utility in industrial sector (to cut stuff). But in that case they use artificial diamonds: they don't look as pretty, but possess the same characteristics (more or less).

Girls, does the size of the diamond of an engagement ring really matter to you? How big should it be?

I care for nothing other than his heart. I'll take the ring out of the gumball machine if the man's heart is good. If the man's heart is bad - no ring could ever make up for that. The important thing to me is that it means something and looks right on my hand. A huge gawdy diamond would look simply hideous on my skinny long linky lanky fingers. I preferred a teardrop because in getting married my husband took my tears away and carries them in his heart. All of that other nonsense means nothing to me. My husband did get me a good quality ring but I certainly wasn't going to beg for anything beyond what he could afford or behave like if I didn't get a million dollar ring he wasn't worth it. I certainly don't feel like I'm less valuable as a woman because I wear a smaller diamond than alot of women I know. Mine is perfect for me.
