Are Dodge Neon Srt4 Reliable

Are dodge neon reliable cars?

It depends a great deal on who drove and maintained it.

I have several friends who work at Chrysler. They have many neon's. The ones that hot shot kids drive develop problems early if not maintained. The ones driven by sensible people can go 150K with little or no trouble. Seems like head gaskets were a problem with the first few years but by 2000 Chrysler had mandated a new, tougher head gasket that had multiple layers of different kinds of metal. I think it had seven layers. Some copper, tin, brass, and stainless steel. That held up a lot longer.
Very few have had transmission problems but they have the fluid and filter changed at least every 50,000 miles. One old guy has 200,000 miles in his and I think he has only had the head gasket and belts changed. He drives easy and changes oil and such himself.

If you drive one listen for noises that indicate drive axle wear and make sure that transmission shifts right or buy it CHEAP.

Wishing you luck..............Chelley
By now most shops have become skilled at repairing the little buggies because there were something like 250,000 built every year. Let me think, seems like starting in 1998 up till 2005. That would be seven years times 250K which comes to 1,750,000 Neon's. So there are lots of them out there if you want used parts and lots of market for new parts too.

Is a Dodge Neon srt4 really a good reliable car?

So I've heard srt4's arent really good cars. I was told they tend to break down a lot. Is this really true? Or is it just a bunch of lies? Because to me they seem like really nice cars. They are both good looking and pretty fast.

Is the Dodge Neon a reliable car?

The problem with the reputation of the Neon is not really with the car itself but with peoples' opinion of the car.

The Neon was seen as a cheap, disposable vehicle and a lot of people drove them into the ground with little or no thought for preventive maintenance. When the car finally did break down due to neglect, people called it a piece of junk.

One of my vehicles is a '97 Neon that I've owned since new. The car has not been perfect (but name me any car that will not give the owner any troubles at all for over 12 years). It has some squeaks and rattles and I have had to replace some parts that broke over time but I can also say that the car has never left me stranded. It has always been able to get great fuel mileage (especially important last summer when the cost of fuel soared), it is also relatively comfortable and spacious for being an economy car.

The secret for getting 12 years (and still going...) out of a Neon? Regular oil changes and sticking with the maintenance schedule. I also look after the small stuff before they turn into larger problems.

I mentioned people neglecting routine maintenance, that's a problem you have to look for when buying any used car. If you find a car that looks good (whether it be a Neon or any other vehicle), make it a condition of sale that the vehicle is to be inspected by a shop/mechanic of your choice. Spending around $100 now can save you thousands in future repair bills. It can also be used as a negotiation tool if the inspection doesn't turn up anything major but still finds some minor things which should be looked after. You can then use the estimated cost of repair for those minor things to drive down the sale price of the vehicle if you still want to go ahead with buying it.

Dodge neon srt4?

I'm looking for a new used car and I found 2 srt4s and want to know which would be a better buy/project car. The silver 04 neon srt4, has some issues and I wanted to know how much work and money it would take to fix either of the 2 up? Here are the sellers descriptions...

"-Losing some coolant and oil - plugs look OK, so likely leaks and doubtfully internal (do have some spots) Worst case is headgasket.
-Leaking sunroof.
_Needs exhaust manifold gasket (have).
Grinds 3rd on downshift ONLY and sometimes cold (3rd gear extender, ~$60 part, will fix this).
-Needs A/C condenser"
It will also need a new driver seat and has a crack in lip

The 03 red neon with black stripe...
"-Out of tune slightly breaks up at low rpm.
-No radio.
-Paint could use some tlc.
-Rip in driver seat."
And Will also need new driver seat.

Are dodge neon srt-4 bad cars?

Well they don't make the Srt 4 anymore because Dodge does not make the neon platform anymore. Dodge has replaced it with the Caliber, which will also be coming out with a SRT 4 version. Don't listen to people who claim Hondas are better because they are not, those are just un-educated people.

By the way, no defects on those cars either, they were made to be a limited production run, but actually sold better than Dodge thought. 2003 through 2005 is the model years.

2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4 Car Issues?

My car has been running like crap, and Come to find out, the Check engine light doesn't work . Take it to autozone, and it's got these codes:

P0300
P1697
P0073
P0344
P0038
P0108
P0073.

Today as driving the car, it wants to die often, Even on first gear launch, it jumps hard and tries to die as if I'm a beginner driving the car. The speedometer also quit working and the fuel guage is reading odd. The backfire on the exhaust seems to have gotten louder. I bought this car about a month ago, and i'm just asking for some personal opinions on what you guys thinks wrong.

Reliability of a Dodge Neon SRT-4 2.4L Turbo?

Go over to srtforums.com you will find plenty of people with over 100K miles on theirs. If taken care of and not heavily modified the engine is built to last.

Is a Dodge Neon a good car?

I have a friend that commuted in a Dodge Neon and put over 300K miles on it. It finally got junked when the timing belt broke and trashed the motor. He knew the timing belt was overdue, but it wasn't worth the expense of changing the timing belt, compared to the value of the car and the potential for other problems. So, he drove it while the timing belt lasted, and scrapped the car when it failed. This story demonstrates two important points:The car could make 200K, 300K, or even more miles, if well maintained. The value of the car is low enough that it is hard to justify the costs of all that maintenance. So, if you could find a low mileage car with good maintenance records, it could be a great value. However, I would be very wary of deferred maintenance and expensive problems.

Dodge Neon SRT4 or Volkswagen GTI?

The SRT-4 is faster. In terms of electronics, it is more reliable.

The GTI is higher quality. In terms of mechanics, it is more reliable. It also handles better and it is more practical and comes with more features.

Both have a huge aftermarket. The GTI aftermarket is larger. Parts are cheap for both.

The slower, cheaper model is usually the cheapest to insure.

GTI is overall a better car.
