I'm usually ok with people dropping LSD and mushrooms. But I never will. I have a fairly severe case of bipolar type 1 with paranoia and hallucinations as it is. So in some respects, my brain already is on shrooms. But that's not the whole story, there are two reasons why I won't do anything that make me hallucinate. First is that is has a very high likelihood of messing me up further. So even though I'm stable now, I don't want to risk making it worse and losing the possibility of remaining stable. Second, there is no knowledge base at all about how these drugs will interact with your current medications. The reason why I hold the first view is not because of my own suppositions, but my psychiatrist's. I was discouraged from ever doing heroin or cocaine (which I've done in the past). But it was more of those "it's generally better to just stay away from things that can alter your mood". LSD, shrooms, and pot (which surprised me), were complete no-go drugs. Just flat out, these are drugs you do not take when you have a severe mental disorder. You could be fine, but it could very easily mess you up big time. Your brain is not normal, so treat it carefully. You probably do it already with meds that they put you on for your bipolar disorder, and those are controlled. Don't go putting uncontrolled substances that will significantly mess with your neurochemical balance. The second one is just straight up drug interactions. I'm guessing that you don't put anything in your body without checking for interactions with your pharmacist or doctor. Why would you toss that idea away now? You're on a lot of meds and who knows what the shrooms will interact with. No matter what anyone tells you about how they got a good trip, your brain chemistry is radically different and far more fragile. Seriously, just stay away from psychoactive drugs. Those of us with mental illness have to be highly protective of our mental health. You're stable now and you want to risk throwing that away for a single trip? What planet are you from? Those drugs you take control you in a normative environment, not against powerful hallucinogens. You don't want to exacerbate your condition more and develop psychosis (like I have). It's a whole new world of hurt and more brain fog and more powerful medications. Stick with other drugs if it pleases you, leave the psychoactive ones alone.

I really want to trip on mushrooms, i CAN'T WAIT to find out what it feels like. I really ******* want this. Why are magic mushrooms illegal?
Your logic is a little off. Saying that drug dealers do not want to sell you bad mushrooms is pretty naive. First off, mushrooms generally aren't a "repeat customer" thing. The dealer can easily overcharge you and toss over some grocery store mushrooms. What are you going to do, complain?? You're really putting a lot of faith in an industry that is pretty competitive. Don't fool yourself, anyone can sell any type of mushrooms and you have no way of doing quality control. Now I agree with you, I don't think shrooms should be as heavily regulated as they are. Regardless of the millions who have had safe trips, you get people who use drugs irresponsibly. Legalization won't be able to teach people responsibility. I doubt everyone would eat shrooms and drive if they were legal. Long term use can really mess up your brain...but that goes with any drug. Good question, but a tough one.As you know, they are illegal in many places. They are (or used to be ) legal in Amsterdam, and many a tourist has bought them in Thailand or Bali. They grow wild in many many places, but they are quite hard to spot and reliably identify - they are 'little brown mushrooms' and, for example, where I live in the SF Bay area there are literally hundreds of visually similar mushrooms. Its really only practical if you have a friend who is truly knowledgeable about mushrooms who can take you out and guide you. And I mean 'truly knowledgeable' - they MUST know how to 'key out' a mushroom and make and use a spore print. Where I live there are two astonishingly poisonous wild mushrooms for which there are no antidotes that kill people every year. Every year. There are also many many "lose your lunch" mushrooms. The bad ones you are likely to mistake for the magical ones are mostly of the "vomit until you wish you were dead" or "stay very close to the toilet for a couple of days" kind.They aren't that hard to grow, in some places it is legal to buy the spores, however it is time consuming and you need to learn simple sterile technique. From what I'm told, you are likely to fail a bunch of times before you succeed, so you need patience and stick-to-it-iveness to succeed at it.
