Are My Chances At An Ivy Ruined Plus A Medical Question

Have I totally destroyed my chances for getting into a good college?

"Not trying to be an *** but you can't keep screwing up. How does a reasonably intelligent person fail the majority of his classes? You are using the fact that you were bullied as a cop out. We all have problems.

Do you know that college classes are so much harder than high school classes?"

---

You idiot, I wasn't using it as a "cop out". I was giving an example of what propelled and drove my initial downward spiral; I don't think I ever once implied that I was still holding that responsible for my continued failure.

God, you sound so bloody arrogant. Do I know that college courses are more difficult than high school courses? What do you think that I am, completely devoid of any semblance of common sense?

Is it possible for an Indian-American male to get into med school with a 3.0 GPA from UCSD? Will I need to do what Mindy Kaling's brother did to even stand a chance?

There are several ways for you to pursue your medical career without lying about your ethnicity.1) Make yourself a more attractive applicant by doing well in a post-bac program or MPH and kick ass on your MCATs and there’s a very decent chance that you can earn a spot in an MD-degree granting school in the US.2) Do well on your MCATs and apply to US DO schools, many of which are less selective than MD schools but are still accredited and likely to get you a spot in a decent residency.3) Do well enough on your MCATs and roll the dice by attending an offshore MD school in the Caribbean. They’re expensive and the likelihood you’ll get a competitive residency spot is less but still possible.4) Broaden your definition of a medical career and go the NP route. 5 or so years of nursing school plus advanced training and you’ll be ready to join the workforce.

Could I get into Harvard?? and other Harvard questions.?

I want to get into Harvard because it have one of the best medical schools. I'm a freshmen in high school and have a 4.0 in all honor classes, I'm in cheer and planning on doing it all through high school plus another sport if I can. Next year I'm taking all ap classes and am going to try to be class president or below if I can. I'm also going to start doing community service over the summer. How likely is it for me to get into Harvard? And is there anything else I could do to increase my chances? Also are the dorms free for freshman? and can I get excepted into Harvard with a bachelors degree or do I need to apply after I get my associates degree?

Can you get into medical school with a lot of B's on your transcript in your undergrad?

I can't speak from personal experience; my only B's were in both semesters of Organic Chemistry lab, where my every attempt to produce pure crystalline white powder, brilliant blue liquid, or deep red solids resulted in  brown sludge instead.  But having been a residency director previously (and thus in semi-regular conversation with the Dean), I can tell you a little bit from behind the scenes in terms of medical schools' priorities. There are some medical schools that will probably screen you out for having a lot of B's, just because it's easy.  Someone having straight A's doesn't guarantee that they can handle the vastly increased pace of knowledge acquisition in medical school, but it also doesn't actively call that ability into question.  Having a bunch of B's will be interpreted by some deans as a risk factor for someone who won't be able to keep up (because remember, in medical school you are no longer competing with the general public, but now with a group of people who are all used to getting A's most of the time).  But there are a lot of schools out there that look at a bigger picture than just grades or MCAT scores.  You can compensate for a less-than perfect transcript by being outstanding in other areas - having published research gets people's attention, even if it's a bit silly for it to sway decisions (the percentage of people who publish any research while in medical school is pretty small).  Leadership roles in your extracurricular activities count - they use that as a proxy for judging your ability to be decisive and to be a team leader once you finish medical school.  And a lot of schools are starting to place greater emphasis on the more humanistic aspects of medicine; if you have deep involvement in community activities, or if you've traveled / had other formative experiences that give you a unique perspective on why you want to be a doctor, that can be enough to convince at least one dean.  And all you need is one.

Will a C in Honors English 2 hurt my chances of college?

Take the most challenging classes and give it your all if you want to get into the ivy leagues. Ivy league colleges care about about good grades and taking the most difficult classes available to you. But to answer your question no 1 bad grade will not cripple your future. Focus on SAT's and extracurricular activities as well to improve your chances.

How does a tenth grader increase her chances of getting into competitive medical schools?

Will getting 3 B's in high school ruin my chance of going to MIT or Harvard?

That depends- are your grades your only redeeming quality? Do you have any volunteer hours? What about extracurricular activities?

My friend goes to MIT and she was a B student. However, she was in Academic Decathlon, in all AP and Honors classes, and seriously volunteered in Africa with her church over the summers.

I would recommend doing alot of extra stuff- also, those three B's were your freshman year, so it wouldn't count as much as if they were in your Junior or Senior year. Keep in mind that if those classes were honors or AP, they have points added to them.

How good is an IELTS of 6.5 for applying to US universities for a master’s degree? Will a writing score of 5.5 ruin my chances?

If you are approaching top notch universities my advise would be to give the IELTS again.Nobody (almost) certainly disqualify one candidature solely based upon IELTS results, but it does affect as they will be reviewing other applications too and if they have a strong profile along with good IELTS score they will get the privilege which is totally justified.Hope I answered your question.Good luck!
