Bigger chest, pushups or bench pressing?

i want to get a bigger chest and by doing so im not sure which activity will help me get a bigger chest pushups or bench pressing? ok i was also thinking of a schedule if i can bench press one day then the other days pushups but since i know my chest will need time to recover i dont know if i should do pushups..help?

Push ups and bench press?

This may seem like somewhat of an odd question, but would it be counterproductive to bench press and push ups on the same day? I know muscles can only take so much in one day so I don't want to do unnecessary work. OR would it be better to bench press every other day and do push ups on the days in between?

How come push ups get me tired and sweating harder than bench pressing?

You're working more muscles in the push-up then the bench press. It takes more stability and balance to hold yourself up then it is to be lying on a bench and using very few muscles. In the push-up you are working the whole body from the fingertip to your toes. Do What you can.

Push ups vs. bench presses...?

Well, first of all, it ISN'T the same movement. Sure, you are doing a pushing movement with both exercises, but that's where the similarity ends. With pushups -- unless you are doing them incorrectly -- you involve your entire upper body plus your core and butt (to keep your entire body aligned so that the movement can occur in the first place). You have to contend with your entire body and balancing it when doing a proper pushup.

Bench press -- well, most people are lazy with the rest of their body when they do a bench. The core isn't engaged, nor are the shoulders pulled back and the lats also engaged. In reality, bench presses should be executed with the same form as pushups (including a flat, not arched, lower back), but most people don't do them correctly.

Pushups are better if you want overall functional strength, though to build significant size, you will eventually need to deal with more resistance -- which bench presses would help you do. Or do harder pushups.

To make the bench more effective, work on using more of your body (to stabilize yourself) to do the actual movement (tightening the core, flattening your lower back, tightening the glutes, drawing your shoulders down and back using the lats -- THEN pressing).

Try doing the bench with your knees bent and off the floor (your hips and knees at a 90 degree angle, as if you are doing crunches) -- this will keep your back flat and also make you work a lot harder to balance yourself and remain stable while doing the bench. Of course, you won't be as strong at first doing them this way -- but you will develop more functional strength by using more of your body for the same movement. Use a spotter until you get good.

Can you do push ups one day after bench press?

I bench press every other day and i have the day inbetween as a resting time would it mess up my muscles if i did 60 push ups on my resting day or would they still get rested

Are handstand push ups the same as benching your own weight?

I don't think so...doing that would work your shoulders, particularly the deltoid muscles, and upper traps...only partially your chest muscles. doing raised legs push-ups might be better at about a 45 degree angle should work your upper chest muscles.

Do pushups improve your bench press?

Kinda.

But, if you can bench heavy then doing push ups will not really help unless you do them weighted and keep increasing the weight..

How do push ups and bench press differ?

For a rare few people, they differ by more than 800 pounds. Other than that…Push-ups are:Statistically far saferCan work abs more, especially if they are done slowly with high reps. Can really be focused to the triceps and deltoids with a hands together stance.Typically a body weight exercise, meaning in most cases the ability to build pure strength from them diminishes greatly once a person can do 15+ in a row. It’s not bad to do 4 sets of 25 push-ups. It’s just not going to build pure strength like doing 4 sets of 6 bench presses at a weight that makes 6 reps difficult.Often done with a longer range of motion, which is good for flexibility.Bench Press is:Harder to learn, get good form and get right.Prone to result in shoulder injury, because the human body has muscles that can support a great deal of weight through the bench press motion, but where a small incorrect movement can shift that weight onto other muscles that are no where near capable of handling it.Prone to neck injury or choking death because a person can feel confident in their ability to do one more 300+ pound press, only to find that they should have stopped. Or because they have 300+ pounds 16 inches above their neck when a lapse of control in one arm causes the weight to shift an inch out of place, and in that new position they only have the capacity to hold about 100 pounds. On this: Always bench press in a power cage or similar safety mechanisms in place. Don’t rely solely on a spotter, and if you do rely on a spotter, make sure they can lift the weight you are pressing easily. A guy who can just deadlift 300 pounds is not a great choice for a 300 pound deadlift spotter, as it is much harder to quickly get control of a failing bench press vs. doing a controlled stable lift from the ground.A great exercise for building real pressing power, strong shoulders and a strong chest.Much better for developing stabilizing power, as the stabilization of the weight is not aided much by the legs as compared to the push-up.

Does push up equal bench pressing the Earth?

Yes, it is equivalent to bench pressing the Earth by less than the size of an atom. When you do a push-up, you actually do move the Earth a little bit. How much?We need to consider one fact: the common center of mass between you and the Earth remains unmoved during your push-up.The center of mass must remain stable, but since you move yourself a little bit in one direction, the Earth must move in the other direction, otherwise the center of mass wouldn’t stay in place. How much does the Earth move? It’s easy. First, we calculate the center of mass when your belly is touching the ground. Then we calculate the center of mass when you’re at the highest position during the push-up. These two centers of mass are same in reality, so what moves is the whole system (you and the Earth). So, the distance we calculate between these two centers of mass is the exact distance the Earth moves away. Let’s get to it!Your weight: 75 kgHeight of your push-up: 0.6 mEarth’s weight: 5.972e24 kgEarth’s radius: 6371000 mCenter of mass when touching the ground:[math](-6371000 * 5.972e24 + 0.0 * 75) / (5.972e24 + 75) = -6371000 + 8.0010884125920964501003683721314560604096186323462977 × 10^{-17}[/math]Center of mass when at the high point:[math](-6371000 * 5.972e24 + 0.6 * 75) / (5.972e24 + 75) = -6371000 + 8.0010891661085063630273610044059849065677784574555709 × 10^{-17}[/math]Difference between the two:[math]7.5351640991292699263227452884615815982510927317654664 × 10^{-24} m[/math]So, yeah, it’s something multiplied by 10^-24, which is really short distance. To give you an idea, the radius of an atom is a few tens of picometers, which is 10^-12.
