Are Southern States Unhappy Because They Are Conservative Or Conservative Because They Are Unhappy

Why are conservatives so unhappy with the SCOTUS decision today?

Pygathor... gave a well-thoughtout response with which I generally agree, with the following caveat: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2009 (PPACA or "Obamacare") gives individuals a choice to either take personal responsibility so that insured others do not have to be billed for your irresponsibility as the cost of your uninsured care is passed onto these others, or you take the consequences of being billed (taxed) so that innocent others are not made to pay for your care. This seems quite fair, and if you actually read the PPACA (ReadTheBill.org and whitehouse.gov), you will discover that this requirement is means-tested and is not harsh in terms of enforcement (not harsh enough, some have said).

As a person who has typed for graduate-level nurses for years, I can attest to the fact that people who show up at Emergency Rooms for nonemergency care place the cost of their "stolen" care onto the shoulders of every single premium-paying person who makes use of that health care facility, and also interrupts or delays timely care for true emergencies, tying up health care professionals who will be uncompensated for their face-time with the uninsured patient and placing a burden on the admniistration of that facility which the administrator then passes on to others. I consider health care to be a right and not a privilege, but the use of Emergency Rooms in the manner described is NOT a right---it is theft. The PPACA now mandates that insurers must provide at no additional costs PREVENTIVE CARE in the sense that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" as a means of cutting down on hospital expenses and insurance payouts over time---a SAVINGS that can be passed onto premium-paying consumers which could or would result in LOWERED PREMIUMS (a positive incentive).

Right-wing mean-spirited corporate-colluding anti-Obama Republicans (the word "conservative" no longer applies to these obstructionist extremists) are in a stomp-the-foot-and-pout mode like the immature nonempathetic fiscal illiterates they truly are.

Is the reason why conservatives hate us peaceniks so much bc everything we said would happen did happen?

Yes, yes it is.

First we warn them not to make the stupid blunder. Then when they make the stupid blunder they accuse us of being the problem and say we are glad that it all went awry.

Its the kind of pretzel logic that gets them into these situations in the first place.

Would you rather live: most liberal state (Vermont) or most conservative state (Alabama)?

Metric used: Obama job approval rating, by state, according to Gallup. Highest in Vermont and Hawaii (75 and 74%, respectively), and lowest in Alabama (27%).

Where would you rather live? Uber-liberal state (Vermont) or arch-conservative state (Alabama)? And why?

Why was the South opposed to desegregation and what was their notion of "interposition" all about?

Interposition is an American legal doctrine that holds that states have the right to oppose measures from the federal government that they see as unconstitutional infringements on state or individual rights. Some will say this argument is dead, but they fail to see this is the argument behind many states opposing recently passed federal healthcare reform through voter's referendums.

That's the legal matter...

Interposition, in the South, in regards to desegregation, was actually a little bit different. Not only was it the legal theory that states could oppose what they saw as unconstitutional federal measures, but it was also that Southern states and officials believed they were being imposed on from outside the South. In other words, many Southern states and officials believed that desegregation was a Northern ambition being forced on the South.

To put it another way, it would be like you were in a dysfunctional family and knew how to correct the issues. Another family, though, moved in next door and demanded that your family do the things you knew would correct the problem. How would you respond? Some might make the changes, but most families would react in anger at the interference, at the imposition, of the other family. And this is even if you know what the other family is demanding is the correct path to take to deal with the dysfunction.

And if you look at a lot of the literature produced by segregationists during this period they say that we are happy with the way things are. Many of these Southern leaders would find a black person who they could get (or persuade through money or threats) to say they were happy with segregation. So there was this myth that the South was happy with segregation and meddling Northerners just wanted to come in and destroy Southern happiness by meddling in something that was not their business.

However there was a major problem with this argument. While many whites were satisfied with segregation, the vast majority of blacks were extremely unhappy with being second-class citizens. And it was these Southern-born and raised blacks that invited Northern activists into the South for marches, protests and voter-registration drives.

But the idea of "interposition" is not just about a stale legal argument concerning federal and states rights. It also includes the view that Northern interests were trying to impose desegregation on a South that didn't want it...

When will cons learn that failed ideology of conservatism doesn't work?

Of the top 10 income per capita states you listed, which ones are bankrupt or have a huge amount of debt?

1) California is now $96 billion in the hole
2) New York New York’s $63.3 billion in state-funded debt is second to California’s
3) New Jersey New Jersey Debt Climbs 3.1% to $38.1 Billion

Here is a list of the top 30 states with the most debt. http://xfinity.comcast.net/slideshow/new...

The list shows many of the states that you listed in the top 10 per capita. Just because you have a lot of income does not mean you are wealthy. Also the cost of living in the states you listed is extremely high, so high income is needed to afford a house, food, cars, etc. Low income per capital means that the state has a low cost of living.

Wealth is accumulated when you have no debt. We spend way too much, so therefore we have no wealth and are living on a deck of cards.
