Legit modeling / Acting agencies?
So, I've been to atleast 4 different modeling agencies. I've been signed with One Source Talent, Then At a movie audition, The director told me they weren't legit. So now, I have an agent with New Life Casting. Yes, I have met my agent and she gave me two movie auditions to go to. Now, when we try to contact her she never answers or returns calls. So, I've also been with another modeling / acting group in atlanta, and they weren't legit either. So, We're having a bit of a hard time trying to find someone that ACTUALLY Does something with you.. Legit modeling and acting companies don't make you pay them upfront. "You shouldn't have to pay to be signed with anyone" - That came from my agent and the movie director. So, I'm in Atlanta and we just need to find someone who is going to work with me, And do whatever it takes.. Acting or modeling, I do both. But please, Someone legit (: Thanks!
Are acting showcases a legit way to find work in acting?
Good question. There are two schools of thought on it. One says, use the classes, seminars, showcases to make connections and be seen. Thats the voice of actors that have done so. The other opinion is quite vehement, sometimes outright rabid. They say that casting directors are taking advantage of actors and making more money. I am sure that happens with some of them. I have attended a handful of them. Have I got work because of it ? Hard to say. There isn't always direct correlation. It is quite possible that an audition I did last year will bring me work this year. You never know. You may not be right for a project being cast at the time, but may make such an impression on a casting director that they call you in for a project. You just never know. I have a few casting directors that love to see me...and .. connections are connections. Being known is the key... some say whatever it takes. Personally, I dont usually have the money for showcases.. and try instead to be seen at work, where ever that is... There are no 'right' answers to your question. You won't get a job just because you attend.. and you may get work without ever doing a workshop. Right place, right time, right talent is really the way it works... Steve Martin in his book Born Standing Up says be so good they cant ignore you...but what do I know.. you dont know me.
Do you think Boston Casting agency is a scam?
They look OK. They should not charge for applying, if the classes are free take them. If they are hundreds of dollars don't. A head shot runs around $100+ depending on what you get. If you audition for a SAG job and get it the initiation fee is big bucks, AFTRA is less. I noticed there were no comments on the web site, not sure about that----bad ones they take them down perhaps. They do have credits, I'd say be cautious and if you can talk to an actor with the agency. Remember a agent WORKS FOR YOU, not the other way around. I've had agents, several and they can be good and bad all in one week.
What is the best non scam acting agency (not talent agency!) in LA?
Broadway isn't an acting agency. It's hard to tell which ones are and aren't scams, just know some of the rules: You don't have to pay for an agent, you don't need to pay for anything, your agent only makes money when you do. Just google "acting agencies in (your area)" The mail your headshot and resume to the ones you like. If you get a call for an interview then good for you! Usually the scammy agencies will hold "cattle calls" in a big ballroom at some hotel and tell you they need money for this and that and the other thing. Don't fall for it. Don't go to them. Only settle for private interviews. Also whatever acting school you're going to should be able to help you! Good luck.

I keep looking for agencies and then I'll find one. Then I look up information on it and read it's a scam!! I really want to be an actress and I know a great agency would help, so.... HELP!! please
