Are There Any Experts On Car Ac

AC in car won't hold a charge?

yes it's leak. if u put freon and AC blows cold compressor is good. you should of looked closer to the hissing noise when freon was in the system but it's too late can't hear it if no freon. buy the dye around $15 from walmart it's cheaper then autoparts. if u take it to the shop it will be a little over $50. all they will do is put a can of the dye and tell u come tomorrow to see where it spots colored so do it yourself. if u when you find the leak then search the part!! return hose, dryer, evaporator...ect nobody will tell how much it will cost before u find the leak. it sounds like hose from what you described but I could be wrong. hose is easy fix, used from junkyard around $20. new around $80? mechanics will charge u around $220. info & a little work will save u money. if you take it to the shop like this and they find the leak, they buy the hose, they install it they will charge over $300. if you do it yourself $15 dye. $20 hose, $30 freon to refill and 1 to 2 hours of not hard work. make sure there's no freon in the system if u wanna do it yourself u don't want the hose to come at u with full pressure but it should be empty. and for all those people who say "take it to the shop" for every answer on yahoo why don't u use your brain? so many ppl have this quick suggestion cuz they have nothing better to say.

This should stump any car mechanic or auto expert?

The secret is "When you turn the A/C on it cools down."

You have two fans....one primary and one for the A/C.

Your primary fan contact brushes that send electricity to the motor is warn or old. It still works but at a reduced speed.
Less RPM is less air passing Thur the radiator.

When you add the second fan (by tunning on the a/c) the temp cool down, as the second fan help the first fan.

In town, there is no breeze to blow the hot air from the concrete and it just lingers a foot to two above the street.
Concrete is a excellent "Heat Storage Device" and if you go to town from 8am to 9am you may notice a difference.

Your car is just fine.....and the Primary Fan (the one that runs all the time with no a/c) is just old and does not run as fast anymore.
To check, "With the key off." Hold on to the fan blade and prevent it from turning and have someone turn on the key.
You will see it will barely pull you hand.....If it were new it would pull on your hand fairly hard.

You don't need to do that....but if you need to tell, that is how we tell the fan is weak. Then when the fan motor is hot .....it just gets worse and weaker.

Its fine, for driving on open roads as the wind will help the radiator cool the motor. But Keep an EYE on it...they are not that expensive.

$16-$35 bucks and take 20 minutes to change, and are easy to change.

How do you fix your car's air conditioner?

You don't. Please, don't. Unless you have lived your life among car conditioners, or are a certified professional, you don't want to self repair your car's air conditioner. You have to know how to diagnose what's wrong with your car. Then, you have to know how to take apart your car to reach the faulty component, repair it, and put it all back together. There's a reason the price difference between a car with and a car without air conditioning is so high: ITS AN EXTREMELY COMPLICATED MATTER. Heed Sourabh Patil's advice, and take it to a mechanic.  You have been warned. If you decide to disregard our advice and repair it yourself, here's a nice, simple instructable that will show you how. Get past the first step, and tell me how it went... How to Repair Automotive A/C

When my AC is on, my car tends to consume more fuel as I have observed it several times, is there anything wrong with my engine or what?

Your air conditioning compressor runs off a belt driven from the engine. When you are using your A/C, the compressor puts a load on the engine and the engine has to work a bit harder to run the compressor. This uses a bit more gasoline. The amount of gas your particular car uses to run the A/C will depend on the exact car you are driving and how you are driving that car. Some cars are more efficient than others, some compressors need more power to operate than others. A big SUV is going to have a larger compressor than a small economy car - the SUV has more space to condition. A Mercedes Sprinter passenger van with rear air conditioning has two compressors.Another answer talks about a Mythbusters episode where they used two SUVs to test the theory that air conditioning uses more fuel than opening the windows. In this case, with these cars at the speeds they were driving, they found that the air conditioned car went 15 miles fewer than the car with the windows open for a full tank of gas. That’s about 1 gallon of fuel for that particular SUV - about 2 bucks a tank at present US gas prices. That’s all well and fine, but they only tested two particular cars, only at one particular speed. That’s hardly a representative test. Aerodynamics of different cars are very particular to the car. I’m not trying to say that air conditioning doesn’t use more fuel than opening the windows, maybe it does on all cars, maybe it doesn’t, just that their testing methods aren’t conclusive across all vehicles and speeds.I don’t want to drive in hot humid Atlanta when it is 90F outside with my windows open. I’m going to risk using a bit more fuel by closing the windows and using the air conditioning, arriving cool and sweat free. I don’t want to drive at 75mph with my windows open because I’m not willing to burn a bit more fuel for my air conditioning.

Odorless White Smoke Coming From AC Vents In My Car? Need Expert Advice.?

I drive a 98 Toyota Camry and recently put in a new catalystic converter. I was driving around the next morning, driving at normal speed when all of a sudden I see white smoke coming out from the a/c vents. I turned on the a/c and a cloud of smoke came from all vents, then it would stop but would start again after a minute. It didn't have a smell, just white smoke like if it was steam. What does this mean? Does this have something to do with the CAT? Or is it something else? please help, and answer would be greatly appreciated.

There is smoke coming out of my vents in my car while i run my air conditioner just started today help please?

It can be one of a few things.

1. Could be you have a freon leak in the a/c system. A mechanic would have to correct the leak, probably replace the evaporator coil and then refill the freon. Turn off your AC. If it stops then it's a good chance this is what it is and you can live without it as long as you can live without AC.

2. Could be a leak in the heater and you are loosing water/antifreeze through the leak. Again a mechanic would have to correct the leak, probably replace the heater core and refill your coolant. If this is the case you need to have it looked at right now. If you lose too much coolant the car will over heat and you can possibly dammage the engine.

3. You have some type of an oil leak and the smoke is getting into the venalation system. Probably not but possible. Again a mechanic can tell you.

So I suggest going to a good mechanic. Ask around someone probably knows someone who knows someone who is honest. But expect to spend somewhere around $200.00 to $2000.00 (or more) depending on the nature of the problem.

Car ac not blowing as cold it is should?

Hello every and good afternoon

My issue is my 95 lincoln town car ac system is not blowing as cold as it should. Now after a day of research I have almost became a expert on what the ac system is made up of.

The AC accumulator is not cold or sweating while on and neither are any of the pipings. The ac blows kind of cold and the ac clutch goes on and off every 5secs for 3 secs then stops. Could there be a leak or is the compressor not working right? Is it just low of Freon? I've seen videos and researched on the ac system and the compressor does not look hard to fix if its the compressor neither does the accumulator or piping. Also the blend door actuator is fine so i know its not that.

I have done a recharge on the ac system last year with 2 freon cans in which my car take i believe 1.8 lbs. I have also done a alternator change, starter, car audio. steering column, brake lines, etc so i am knowledgeable about cars just need some suggestion on what it could be and the part i need to buy.

Why spend $500 dollars when i can spend $180 at most and install myself.

My car seems to be overheating when ac, defrost or anything like that is on.?

I recently had a new timing belt installed in my 2001 honda civic. My ac went out in it like two weeks before I had the timing belt replaced so I had my mechanic look at it while he was in there. I can exactly tell you what the problem was with my ac was, but maybe you expert mechanic can piece together what I'm about to type and make some sense out of it... My mechanic said something like there's a clutch that has the ac belt on it or something and it got broke off. Anyways I was needing my car really bad and he couldn't get the parts for it right away to fix my ac so he just put a new timing belt on it and let me have it. I didn't have any problems out of my car until maybe a week later I was driving though some rain and my windshield fogged up so I cut on my defrost. Before I knew it my car was getting pretty warm so I would drive it until it got kinda hot and I'd cut my car off and coast so it wouldn't overheat. I really didn't have no idea what the problem could be until I realized my car only did this when I cut the defrost on. So I experimented and it also does it when I have on any kind of air whatsoever. When it does it, it so erratic an it might be several miles after I've had my defrost on and cut it off that it does it and it could go on a while after it's been cut off. It's just so aggravating and odd and I was just wondering if somebody might know possibly what the problem might be. I took the car back to my mechanic and he just seems pretty stumped about it. But anyways, that for any info y'all might have guys. I really appreciate it.

Thanks
