Is a straightening brush as damaging as a flat iron?

I broke my straightener this morning! UGHHHH! What should I do?
Go to Sallys and get the Plugged In straightener. Its the best one, I dont care what anyone says! Chi is a ripoff, and they break all the time. My friend got a Chi when they first came out, so she got an awesome warranty that replaces her straightener whenever she wants, good thing because she has had to replace it 12 times! Its a piece of crap. I have had a Plugged In for a long time, and its amazing. My hair is crap and it works for me. Also, another friend of mine owns a salon and thats all she uses. She has used it everyday for years and it hasnt broke or anything. The best part... its like $40!

The most important things to look for in a flatiron are how hot it gets, and you really want to be sure it is ceramic. Also, what is the return policy if you don't like it? I was majorly disappointed in the Hot Tools brand at Ulta. I used to have a Chi and a Paul Mitchell. I loved the amazing results, but, unfortunately, sticky fingers lifted them out of my makeup kits. I found myself looking for a bargain priced flatiron, but wanted the results of the prestige brands. LOVE the generic brand at Sally's Beauty supply, and I believe it is around $50, vs the hundreds of dollars I spent on the other two.

Help, can my daughter straighten my nieces biracial hair with her straightener or will it damage it?
Just a little side note, my neice is adopted, before the surgery my sister-in-law and brother drove her 4.5 hours each month to have her hair profesionally done and to get the tips to care for her hair. BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, the last time my neice spent anytime with her mom she had her hair straight. We, my daughter and myself, are going to take my neice for the weekend and Christmas eve to spend time with her mom in the hospital, my neice wants to look the same as when her mom first got sick. The most time she has spent with her in two months is just short visits every other weekend, now that her mom is getting better she doesn't want to disappoint her by not looking her best. I HAVE TOLD HER THAT HER MOM DOESN'T CARE HOW SHE LOOKS JUST THAT SHE IS THERE AND HAPPY, BUT AT 12 ALMOST 13 ALMOST LOSING HER MOM, I THINK THAT STRAIGHTENING HER HAIR IS A EASY WAY FOR HER TO HAVE CONTROL. I just really don't want to hurt my neices hair.
