What the difference between a high maintenance and low maintenance girlfriend?
A high maintenance girlfriend, usually means a girl that takes a lot out of a guy (emotionally and/or financially) The opposite for a low maintenance girlfriend. Beauty: there are good looking girls in both categories.

Hi! English is not my first language and was wondering about what "high maintenance" and "low maintenance" (when talking about a girl/woman) mean? Some guys I knew in the US used that expression, but I'm now wondering what they meant (they were not talking about me). Also, can you tell me if you are American or English (or other), and if you say it in your country, or if you know of another way to say that. Thank you.

Alright, guys, help me understand something... Every guy I have ever known has said that they like very little drama & low-maintenance girls. However, 95% of these guys wind up with girls who are high-maintenance and have them on a short leash. So, guys, ultimately - which is it low-maintenance or high-maintenance? If your answer is 'low' - would you go for a girl who nagged for constant attention if she had a good figure?
Which do guys prefer, a high maintenance or a low maintenance woman?
Of course a low maintenance woman. With such a girl you can enjoy life much more and enjoy its little things. You can have fun eating a frozen pizza in front of a laptop watching a movie, go backpacking on a budget and so on.High maintenance equals high “complainance”, which is something to avoid at all costs.

Oddly enough me & some dudes were discussing this on the weekend.... general consensus was NO DRAMA, LOW MAINTENANCE Yet, I pointed out to a few of my buds - you always go for that high maintenance chick, then once you get her, you want her low maintenance buddy... And to one who claimed he didn't like drama - HE causes most of the drama & issues in his own life, ROFL.... Should I be a low maintenance or high maintenance girlfriend?
You should be whatever kind of girlfriend you feel you naturally are and find a boyfriend who suits that. Compromise and learn from your relationships, but stay true to your nature.I know some girls who are super high maintenance. They like their guys to gift them Pandora princess rings, high-end makeup, roses, and carefully wrapped boxes that contain new clothing to be worn at their surprise dinner date that night at 8. They need constant love, both in person and online (we all know that one couple that blows up our Insta and Twitter feeds). Some guys enjoy feeding into it. If they're both happy, it works!Other couples are super low-key. They don't need to mention each other in their FB statuses every day or post pictures of each other. They're calm and secure in each other's love and don't care about getting little gifts from the other as proof of their affection. They're laid-back. They don't violate basic PDA rules.As long as a couple is on the same page, anything goes. Personally, I feel like the high maintenance couples are a *little* unrealistic and even borderline obsessive: it seems like they're needy and look like they depend on each other. What is a "low maintenance person"?
High maintenance people describe those who have much upkeep to their physical appearance, their personal grooming or their daily habits/regimens. If not it also having greater monetary needs, a high standard of living… e.g. won’t camp outdoors but must stay in first class accommodations, wear expensive jewelry and high end clothing… no matter their financial status or that of their significant other. They may need total control of all plans before agreeing to them as their personal needs are extensive. This may cause a lower desire/ability to be spontaneous…Conversely a low maintenance person has few needs that are not apparent and easily accommodated with what is available. They may have fewer demands on those around them and be more spontaneous as their needs are not as constrained and their options are greater to fit changing situations both in finances and when considering other peoples wishes. They may not primp and prepare every aspect of their life to be presented in the best light, but they may still get the job done.These are a few examples and by no means the complete definition of either type of person.
Do high maintenance people know they’re high maintenance?
It depends.Some revel in it. It is seen as a cute quality, endearing but annoying, and something to highlight about the person. These people are adorable, even if they are irritating at times.Others may not consider what they are doing high maintenance, even though it is. These people either spend a lot of time alone, or are young.And then there are those who might hide how high maintenance they are until a “later date.” These people probably work high power jobs.Lastly, there may be some who may have no idea that they are high maintenance. These people probably were born into a lot of money.
