Attainable Jobs That Have Something To Do With Politics

What do people think about the saying "politics is an art of compromise" by Otto von Bismarck?

Chancellor Otto von Bismarck didn't say that.  The quote about politics and art that Bismarck is famous for is:"Politics is the art of the possible, the attainable - the art of the next best."However, as to the oft said "politics is the art of compromise", it is an idea that the American political system could benefit greatly from.  Even a cursory examination of the political ideas of the left shows they are simplistic nonsense as does cursory examination of the political ideas of the right.  Workable solutions take elements from both sides.  Workable solutions eschew ideologues.  Workable solutions come from politicians that realize they represent all constituents, not just the ones that voted for them.Politics is about negotiating consensus and cooperation between factions. The effective politician is pragmatic and pragmatism welcomes compromise.

Could women have a paying job in 1879? If so, what kinds of jobs and what restrictions were there?

Yes, but not many. Mostly teachers, domestic help, or nurses.

Is Sustainability a good major?

Oh my God no. Whatever that is, that's not a real major. If I got a resume with THAT as the degree I'd chuck it into the shredder pronto.

You youngsters need to realize, sometimes college faculty -- being unacquainted with the real world -- get caught up political correctness and come up with these lousy majors that will only trap students into paying for 4 years of education and then not being able to find a job at all -- because their poor choice of major reveals they 1) have no useful skill and 2) have very poor judgment. That's not a person you want to hire.

Why didn't Pat Buchanan ever run for an attainable office like congressman?

There is a long history of people who run for president, who have had no political experiance. They typically don't want the job and probably wouldn't know what to do with it if they go it. Running for US president is a high profile activity and just getting on the ballot in all 50 states has some cachet to it which will help them in their regular vocation. In the case of Pat Buchanan it was being a political pundit. Ralph Nader is another and this time around we had Ben Carson and there are many many more who have sought the highest office in the land without even getting elected Dog Catcher. What this tells me is that these people are really not interested in running for office as as a public servant. They are init for other reasons or it's simply that they want to raise awareness on a specific issue and they have a lot of time on their hands.

What kind of jobs can one get after majoring in economics?

I have a BA with a major in economics.

Excluding professional roles such as doctor, lawyer, engineer, etc. there is a wide-range in jobs that your friend could pursue. General business roles; manager, director, VP are certainly attainable. These can be in any sector of the economy.

My own area of expertise is in the energy industry and there are fantastic opportunities within the oil & gas, natural gas, and the power markets. Government and government agencies are always looking for economists or people that have a business background. These industries besides needing new blood to replace an aging workforce also pay very well.

What is the highest paying job one can get leveraging her law degree and bar passage?

Ultimately, likely a litigation attorney.  But, to get to that goal, you've got to pay years of dues as an associate doing really grunt work.  If the highest pay is all you want, then then might be the best path if you really are good at litigation.  Corporate attorneys also get really good pay.  A lead counsel for a large corporation makes great pay based on my friends that are in that line of work.  But, don't expect to pass the bar and then immediately become Sr. Counsel at Northrup Grumman or some other large company.  It'll take years and you have to have the patience and skills to make it happen.Good luck
