Atticus Finch Greatest Hero of All Time.?

http://www.afi.com/100Years/handv.aspx

On AFI's website Atticus Finch was named the greatest hero of all time. I really don't understand why he was a hero. James Bond and Indiana Jones did a lot more heroic stunts in movies then Atticus Finch. I am just wondering why. Thank you for the answer!

Does Atticus Finch have any flaws?

I've beeen reading "To Kill a Mockingbird", and just recently watched the film. I know that nobody is without flaws, but Atticus Finch seems to be nearly perfect. So, I ask the good people of the internet, what are his flaws, if he has any?

Who is the greatest Greek hero of all time?

I would rather say Achillies.Despite the fact he knew he would die early he jumped in to the trojan war,and man seriously, even without the invulnerability,THAT GUY IS A SERIOUS MONSTER.He had good senses and was a good strategist.I say if he hadn’t sided with the greeks and fought,no matter how much anybody tried they coudn’t stop the trojans and if he hadn’t killed Hector he would alone have killed odyesseus and a few of his men.And heroes longed for Achillies’s armour, come on how regulary armour forged by Hephestus? And can you see achillies had sacrificed or lost? His mother and father baring so much pain while in the Styx, and that too how many heroes have even survived the underworld? That too Thetis had mentioned to Zeus that their child could be the next ruler of the cosmos. Most people would say Hercules ,Perseus or Odyseesyus because they are the sons of Zeus and they have done all mighty things but nobody remembers heroes other than sons of Zeus.Take example,Jason, nobody takes him seriously though he recovered the fleece.Thesus,he killed the minoutar.Dadelus,he made the Laybrinth.Bellophron, rode Arion and killed Chimera.I don’t mean to make Zeus angry but his sons get all the fame.

Who is the greatest fictional character of all time and why?

When it comes to the greatest fictional character, my mind always return to one person :ATTICUS FINCH (To kill a Mockingbird)Atticus Finch has become one of the most admired characters in literature &  fiction. In his compassion, integrity, and moral courage, he embodies the personal traits to which human beings should aspire.Atticus Finch, Scout and Jem’s father, a lawyer in Maycomb, Alabama. A widower, almost fifty years old, Atticus responds to the challenge of rearing two small children by treating them as equals, with dignity and honesty. Atticus is a rare man, not only because he is a keen judge of human nature but also because he is able to forgive his fellow citizens their faults. When he defends a black man charged with raping a white woman, he does so knowing full well the wrath he will draw from the community. Standing up to the town’s anger and ridicule requires both physical and moral courage, and Atticus shows that he has both. Some great lessons we learn from Atticus Finch are :A man does the job no one else wants to do.A man lives with integrity every day.The most important form of courage is moral courage. Live with quiet dignity.Cultivating empathy is paramount. Teach your children by example.

Why is Atticus Finch, from to kill a mockingbird, An Anti-hero?

Never heard the character being called that before, maybe these will help.

Romeo and Juliet, Atticus Finch,Odysseus, What are there similarites?

They are all fiction.

Atticus Finch: If you just learn a single trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.

Romeo and Juliet: One fairer than my love? The all-seeing sun
Ne'er saw her match since first the world begun

Odysseus: A small rock holds back a great wave

In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch is generally regarded as the hero of the novel. What's his flaw?

I believe that his flaw is that he believes that good will always triumph in the end over bad or evil. He believes in the innate goodness of people and that in the end they will do what is right rather than what is popular.

There are numerous on line resources to help you with this novel, and with questions such as this one. Many of them offer chapter summaries, list of characters, character sketches, discussions of themes, setting, imagery, and symbolism, etc. Do a search for “study guides for To Kill a Mockingbird” etc., and you will find many sites. Also, do a search here on yahoo answers for “To Kill a Mockingbird” and you will find a wealth of information.

Is this a good thesis statement?

It is a thesis statment, but a poor one.

What is your argument? What will follow? Are you going to contrast the commonly-held perception that heroes must be strong and have unusual physical abilities? If so, then you're on the right track. I would argue with that perception, but the thesis is yours to define.

Describe the traits that make Atticus Finch heroic: Not only is he kind, compassionate, and courageous, the context makes him even moreso: the events occurring in the south before the civil rights movement, etc. If you want to conjure superheroes in the thesis statement, leave out their powers, and talk about how many people think that they exemplify "hero." Do it briefly, right it carefully, and check your use of grammar and spelling.
