Audition Songs That Would Be Good For These Characters

Acting: What audition song would be good for a mezzo soprano and portray a dumb blonde stereotype?

You might try out this romp from Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti, called "What a movie!" it's pretty funny and needs lots of acting - not exactly dumb blonde but a good way to show off your chops: (description from The Aria Database - Home follows:from Scene 6 of the English opera Trouble in Tahiti by Leonard BernsteinLibretto: Leonard BernsteinRole: Dinah, a suburban wife in her early thirties, married to SamVoice Part: mezzo-soprano       Fach: lyric mezzoSetting: A hat shop in a suburb in the 1950'sSynopsis: Dinah  has gone to see a terrible movie called "Trouble in Tahiti".  She  describes the trite plot that includes Tahitian natives and a volcano  that erupts and the stereotypical island music.Range: B4 - F5D#   Tessitura Eb4 - D5

Is it important to choose an audition song that matches the character you're going for?

Yes, absolutely! If a casting director can't visualize you in a certain role, you're not likely to get the role. But try to pick something that can show a range of characters, that way, if they don't see you for the role you want most, at least they can (hopefully) place you somewhere else. That being said, the most important thing is to show off the skill you have as an artist. Pick something that shows off your vocal range and emphasizes your strengths as an actor/actress. Talent is still important, even if you look how a character should look! Casting directors want to see what you are capable of.

Good Audition Song for Cosette from Les Miserables?

Les Mierables is influenced by opera, so anything that can show off your legit voice would be great. And most legit songs (early era) are written for the ingenue, like Cosette. Sing a song that will reflect her innocence. But I'd avoid Phantom--it's too operatic and too overdone. I strongly suggest singing a ballad, because Les Mis is Ballad Heaven. Check out the repertoire of Shirley Jones and Julie Andrews. I'm a Soprano myself, (6 octaves, baby!) these are from my own repertoire:

A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes - Cinderella (No one ever does the simple classics anymore. But this song is not as easy as it sounds, difficult intervals.)
Before I Gaze At You Again - Camelot
I Have Dreamed - The King and I
If I Loved You - Carousel
Out Of My Dreams - Oklahoma!
This Can't Be Love - Boys from Syracuse
Till There Was You - The Music Man

Break a leg!

Audition songs for Amneris?

A few ideas that spring to mind:

"Stars and the Moon" from "Songs for a New World"

"Someone Else's Story" from "Chess"

"Still Hurting" from "The Last Five Years"

"Unworthy Of Your Love" from "Assassins"

Audition song help! :)?

If you want to be really over the top to suit the character, maybe choosing a character driven song would help. I would advise songs along the lines of:

Popular - Wicked
Adelaide's Lament - Guys and Dolls
I would advise to do Somewhere thats Green, but ham up Audrey's character and it will be very effective.
As for the actual presence (if you have to do a monologue etc) I would advise to think along the lines of characters such as Lina Lamont from Singin' in the Rain, Dorothy Brock from 42nd Street or Carlotta from Phantom - they are all really over the top characters and are really fun to get into.
Again, DO NOT attempt to go past your range, as nerves may cause this to sound very strained (not very impressive, i can assure you)
Im happy with all the other songs, just make sure to personalise it for yourself, especially songs that are done over and over again (Part of Your WOrld and I Dreamed A Dream are the main ones in your list) - just put your own spin on the song and it will show the auditioneers that you have the ability to personalise a song to fit your character and your comfort zone
Good Luck!

What are the best songs for baritone auditions?

There are many factors to take into account when choosing an audition song. What discipline is it for: musical theater, opera, rock or pop, or something else entirely? What is the role or character? What style shows you off best? Will you be able to sing a whole song or just a short cut?Picking a song that fits you as a performer is the first place to start. You need to choose a song that suits your age and the type of character you might play. From there you can begin to make other style choices if you are auditioning for a particular show or character. It often helps to pick something similar in style to the songs a character might sing, if not the actual songs they may sing.A good tool to give you some ideas is the website StageAgent. It’s a theatrical resource to help you prepare for auditions by offering synopses of shows with song analyses, monologues, and more. Check out the audition songs page for baritone songs, and explore some of the shows that have characters that can be played by baritone actors. There are also some excellent blog posts about choosing songs and other materials.Best of luck to you!

What is a good audition song for the Musical "The mystery of Edwin Drood"?

I haven't seen Drood since it was on Broadway in the 70s or 80s, but the main character was played by Betty Buckley, who also played Grisabella in Cats. If you can't or aren't supposed to do a song from the show, you might consider Memory from Cats, or As Long As He Needs Me from Oliver, or Send in the Clowns from A Little Night Music. Those would be the songs I'd sing, but you may not even recognize the shows. Look for a more sophisticated character, not something you hear on the top 40 radio station.
