What's the difference between a booster seat and a car seat?

A car seat is a booster seat

Stage 1: Infant car seat
Age: Birth to one year old

Up to 30 lbs (14 kg)

This car seat is for little kids. They have tether straps they use for little kids because they're too little to hold on to a seatbelt.

Bigger babies should use convertible infant seats.
Always place in back seat, rear facing.

Stage 2: Forward-facing with tether
Age: 1 years old-4 and half years

This seat is for toddlers, but they still use tether straps, but they're still too little to hold onto a seatbelt.

Always place in back seat, forward facing.

Stage 3: Booster seat
Age: 4 and a half years-9 years
Weight: 40-100 lbs

High-back booster
This booster seat is for low backseats. They don't have tether straps, because they're tall enough to hold onto a seatbelt.

No back booster
This booster seat is for high backseats.

Shield booster
These booster seats are no longer manufactured. They're booster seats you're suppose to wear on your belly.

My son is 3,can he ride in a booster seat?

At 3 he still needs to be in a 5 point harnessed seat. Is it better to be "annoyed" or to have a dead or seriously injured child. My child's safety is never an inconvenience to me.

Forward facing harnessed seats are outgrown when a child reaches the weight limit, or more commonly when the child's shoulders are above the top harness slots.

If the child is 4 years AND 40lbs, then he may move to a booster with vehicle lap shoulder belt seatbelt. If not, then the child needs a larger FF harnessed seat. There are many seats that harness to 55-80lbs. The Alpha Omega 3-in-1 seats only harness to 40lbs and most 40lb weight limit seats are outgrown before a child is mature enough for a booster seat.

A child should ride in a booster with vehicle lap/shoulder belt until he or she reaches approximately 4'9" (around age 12) and then can move to just the adult seatbelt if he passes the 5 step test and the seatbelt fits him

Did/Does your 3 year old use a booster seat in car? Is it as safe as a car seat?

Is this the highback booster using the seat belt? ------

Safe? Very minimal level of 'safe'. but here is the issue. In most states, it is ILLEGAL to use a booster under age 4 and 40 pounds. In a car accident, the adult driving would be charged with child endangerment for not having the child in the correct seat. I am so disgusted that car seat makers sell booster seats labeled 3 yr / 30 pounds when most of the nation is 4 yr / 40 pound minimum. I think this gives parents a false sense of security, and to let their child get out of a 'baby seat'. I have even see backless boosters listed at 30 pounds (when this can prove deadly for many children). I have known two kids one 4 yrs old the other 5 yrs old, both right at the 40 pound mark. In separate accidents under 35 mph these kids were killed while riding in backless boosters. Sadly, the one parent was charged with neglect after her son's funeral, he only weighed 35 pounds which was under the 40 pound rule.
Highback seat belt boosters are far safer that backless for kids under age SIX.

Is this is harnessed booster?
If yes, what type? Some are so crappy with low harness slot height they will not last you a year. The $50 Evenflo Maestro will last to about age 5, their $100 Evenflo Secure Kids 300 will last to age 8 (good value for the money).

Our 5 almost 6 is in a harnessed booster, the Evenflo SecureKids 300. I had to order this, this is new on the market and harder to find. WalMart in our town tends to sell the crappy harnessed boosters (like the Evenflo Chase, slots under 17 inches) , so the good stuff we ordered online and did site-to-store.

So my advice, for the highest level of safety go with a harnessed booster with 17 inch top slots, go by top slot height. I can't think of one brand, but they list to 65 pounds yet the slots only go 15 1/2 inches. Unless your child is Shamu, it would be rare to see a 3 or 4 year old kid at 65 pounds.

2 year old and booster seat?

The child's size (weight AND height) is actually a more important factor than their age when it comes to switching from the car seat to the booster. For example, my 20 month old is only 22lbs. She has always been around the 10th percentile. If she keeps growing at this pace, then she may sit in her carseat until she is 5... I have also heard of 3 year olds who are just too big and tall for the harness and switch safely to the booster.

Ideally, a child should be 4 years and 40lbs, but kids come in such a wide array of shapes and sizes, that it's not always fair to compare one to another. At the end of the day, this isn't your child. I know you're just acting out of concern, but you should let her do what she sees fit.

What's the difference between booster seats and toddler car seats?

no you can not. Boosters are for big kids, usually 4 years AND 40 pounds. Although my personal opinion is to keep kids harnessed as long as possible, as that is what I am doing with my son. After a child outgrows their infant carrier, avg. about 5-6 months, they need to be put in a convertible car seat that is rear and forward facing. They must be kept rear facing to 1 year and 20 pounds. Then they can be turned. Only now research has shown that it is much more safer to keep the child rear facing until the weight limit on their seat, which is usually 35 pounds. It doesn't matter if their feet touch the back of the seat, kids are more flexible than adults and it doesn't bother them. I know kids that have rear faced till they were 2! Lots of seats out there have a harness limit of 40 pounds but you can find a seat that has a higher weight. These are The First Years True Fit, The Britax Marathon, which go to 65 pounds or the Evenflo Triumph which goes to 50 pounds.

edit: sweet, I get a thumbs down for actually knowing about car seat safety. There's real idiots out there who put their 6 month old forward facing when it's illegal. Nice parenting!

Tell me about Cancers?

If you are a natural person you should try cognitive behavioral therapy. It was the only thing that has helped me with my horrible health anxiety. Read here https://tr.im/VsyrA

Your thinking determines your quality of life. Your thinking is what causes you these feelings:

Anxious, fearful, stressed or depressed
Constantly worried, or angry about something that is happening in your life
Struggling to overcome obsessive and negative thoughts.

If you change your thinking, you will change your life. This is the basic idea behind CBT for anxiety. The Cognitive part is where you learn nee methods and ways to change your same old habits and thinking patterns. If you keep thinking and expecting the worst – You will continue to suffer.
