Back to school clothing budget?

I've always spent around $300, but not everyone makes the same amount of money, therefore whatever you can afford, but make sure to save some for later in the year! By the way, I work in a department store...and it is NOT too early to start your back to school shopping. We have about 90% of our back to school clothes in already, and the longer you wait, the less likely you'll be able to find your size in the clothes you really want!

Is $650 a lot to spend on back to school clothes?

that's WAY more than most high schoolers get.
i only got $180. :[

What is a good Back to School shopping list for clothes?

One thing I learned over the years (my children are now adults) is to wait.  I used to fall into the "back to school" shopping mode and spend my budget on the kids needs before the first week of school.  Then, after the first few days of school, my kids would fall back on wearing their usual shorts, tees and sandals/tennis shoes - the same stuff they'd been wearing all summer.  A few weeks later, the weather switches to the first hints of fall and winter and my kids would have a whole new set of  urgent "needs", based on what the other kids were wearing, what they discovered they'd outgrown on that first cool morning, etc.   It's hard to anticipate what you will want to wear in a different season - I still find it difficult to pack for a trip to the desert southwest in January.  By the time my kids were in middle and high school, I was in the groove of having their "back to school" budgeted money ready to go right at that time - that first week of cold mornings.  Much wiser use of our limited family resources.

How much is your family back-to-school budget this year for clothing, school supplies and tech gadgets?

I actually, like much of the stuff I do, haven’t planned anything for back to school, not in terms of budget, not in terms of shopping list. The only time I actually had a shopping list was when my son started school, and we had to buy almost everything he needed.Other than that, I buy the stuff he needs over the summer, not everything in one go. School in Romania starts around the 15th of September. So I usually take August and the first week of September to buy what ever he may need for school.Since now he’s in the 2nd grade and he already has a good supply of office supplies, my shopping consists mostly of clothes he outgrew (uniform and some track suits), new notebooks (the textbooks he receives for free from school) and that’s about it.I don’t need yet a computer for him, and if the time comes I have an old quad core computer that with some TLC and a new hard drive (SSD maybe?) will suit the bill just perfectly (I’m not going to create a gaming rig for him, not just yet, the Nintendo Wii U that he has fits this bill just perfectly). As for gadgets, also no need, not at his age. I promised him I’ll buy him a watch of his choosing after he learns to read an analog display watch properly. So, If I were to guesstimate my budget for this year’s back to school, it is around 1000RON (about 250USD at today’s exchange rate). And that goes towards clothes and notebooks, two new jackets for his uniform and that’s about it.

How many clothes do I need for high school?

To tell you the truth, you could have 3 jeans, 2 leggings, 5 tank tops and/or shirts, 3 cardigans and 2 sweaters and you will be fine (even that is more then I have for High school). I had a friend that went through this entire year with 4 different jeans, 4 shirts and 2 sweater and no body noticed (because no one cares). So unless you want to be those people that try to look good everyday, you will be fine, as long as you don’t wear the same outfit two times in a row.The majority of people I know, beginning of the year, go on this resolve that they will look their best everyday of the school year. But the moment the second week starts they are back to wearing sweatpants, because all you want to do in the morning is sleep, and dressing up just to go to hell afterward is not worth it.Good luck in High school.Cheers!
