Back To School Sales Busy Week

What does a 60-80 hour work week look like? I'm about to dive into this and I'm not sure how to tackle this. How do you break it down, especially as an entrepreneur? How many breaks do you take? What are the best hours?

I can give you the experience of living with someone who works a 70 to 80 hour work week. My wife is a Tax Attorney with one of the Big Four Accounting Firms. During ‘Busy Season’, she’ll easily put in 80 no-bullshit hours. With our new daughter, it’s been an interesting experience. She’ll wake up in the morning and get our daughter ready for school. She’ll have a quick instant breakfast and hop out the door around 7am, sometimes earlier if she has a meeting. There won’t be many breaks, and she’ll often skip lunch completely, opting for take out or a bag lunch while she works on returns. She’ll head home around 4:30, pick up our daughter from daycare, and then hang out at home with her until she goes to bed between 6:00 and 6:30. This is her only true break during the day. I’ll come home around 6-ish to make dinner for the two of us while she heads back off to work. She’ll then work from our daughter’s bedtime (7pm) to 10pm, though it can often be later. Her record is 3am.She’ll also work Saturdays and Sundays anywhere from 2 to 8 hours, depending on how close they are to the deadline. This will last from 12 to 15 weeks depending on her client load. The interesting thing about this experience, though, is that she’s surprisingly chill about it. We know when busy season happens and we prepare. I start taking over more of the choirs and give her the support she needs. There are a few days out of the year where things get intense, but overall she really enjoys the experience of doing something important. So if you have to work this hard, make sure you’re doing something that’s worth it.

What are the least busiest days at Michigan's Adventure?

The least busiest days are Tuesday and Wednesdays all throughout the year. It's definitely more crowded in the summer time when kids are out of school then when kids are back in school.

What happens if the kitchen staff fall sick on a busy weekend at a restaurant?

The answer is, they all show the fuck up and work. It’s an ugly truth, but restaurant workers don’t go home sick as often as they should. I, personally, have worked through flu, cold, bronchitis, bilateral ingrown toenails that were so bad I was shaking from fever, a broken foot (that I let heal on its own, leading to permanent damage), a groin pull, acute elbow tendonitis, second degree burns, one third degree burn (my skin was brown and crispy and smelled like a cross between fried chicken and burning hair), a severed fingertip, and, most recently, seven stitches in the right index finger.Restaurant people either get paid by the hour, or get tipped. We don’t normally get sick days. Most owners don’t tolerate a lot of call-outs, and we can’t afford not to work. We are blue collar people and we need money to live. We soldier up. We are tough as goddamn nails.Cooks work through ANYTHING. We also take great pains to make sure we don’t contaminate anything. We don’t cough on your food. We don’t touch our nose or hair and then touch your salad. We watch where we breathe, and we watch where we cough. We hold ourselves to incredibly high sanitation standards. We take your safety very, very seriously. It’s our own safety that we disregard.Would you be ok if we called you and told you your reservation was canceled due to influenza? No, you would always think of us as the ‘flu restaurant’ and never visit us again. Instead, we make it fucking happen. You are in more danger of infection on the bus, or worse, at your kid’s pre-school than in the restaurant.EDIT: I just put this question to my waiter-sommelier wife (who is tougher than nails, harder than tungsten, and prettier than the aurora borealis), and she replied “Well do any of these people think twice coming into a restaurant if THEY are sick? Fuck no. We touch their plates, their dirty napkins, their forks. If they are so worried, why don’t THEY stay home?”

Of the U.S. states which levy sales tax, which of them hold "sales tax holidays" and when do they hold them?

First it is important to know that most of the sales tax holidays are limited in their application. The majority of the holidays are promoted as a "back to school" break and are timed to occur early to mid August and apply to things like clothing and in some other cases typical school type items.AlabamaArkansas Connecticut Georgia Florida IowaLouisiana MarylandMassachusetts Mississippi Missouri New Mexico OhioOklahoma S CarolinaTennessee TexasVirginiaAll have some period where some otherwise taxable items are exempt from sales tax. See the blog post referenced in Kevin Reeth's answer for more specifics.I would say that from a retailer's perspective sales tax holidays are more of a chance to get full retail price or defer price discounting due to the buying frenzy it can create. Reality is if you wait until the week after the sales tax holiday, you can very often save more than the 6-9% tax .

How do i resign from Macy's as a sales associate?

you resign in writing.

Say what you like but remember to mention that you wish to formally give notice of your intention to leave. Be aware of any notice period that your contract of employment stipulates. Thank them for your time there or slag them off (not advised as you may want a reference from them in the future)

What day is the least busy to go to Canada's Wonderland?

Wednesday or Monday.

How many hours a week do you work at American Eagle?

I work at American Eagle. There are slow times when not many hours are offered sure. But sales usually pick up around August; back to school time and Christmas season of course!
I'm a part time associate and I was working 40 hours a week during Christmas, full time! So it really depends on the demand for the product.

Also, it depends on the location. My mall is located in the suburbs, which is a lot less busy than our downtown store. Therefore, the downtown store is able to offer more hours to their employees.

When is the best time to go to Disney World for a teacher?

I tried to avoid taking my children out of school while planning our Disney vacation also. Unfortunately, most of those times are the busiest for the parks. We went in early June and the crowds really wen't too bad at all! Just be prepared to wait in some lines and wear comfy, cool clothes and shoes and bring plenty of water. We stayed in a really affordable vacation home which was great when we wanted wanted to relax and get away form the crowds a little bit, it even had its own pool which the kids and I both loved! helped to beat the heat too! I found the best deal for this at orlandovacation.com

It depends on what your other priorities for your vacation are after the crowd factor also. Like someone else said, Christmas season which start in late November and goes through December is the busiest time of the year but there's a reason for that. It's one of the most exciting! If you've never been to Disney before it might be worth it to plan far in advance and go all the way! The folks at Orlando Vacation were once again really helpful when planning our Disney Christmas vacation. They answered all the questions I had personally and helped and gave me advice about deals on park tickets during that season. Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is definitely something to see.

good luck and enjoy Disney with your family!
