he was apparently a womanizer who cheated on his wife while living in france. even in the us he supposedly went to prostitutes. he had an illegitimate kid. Franklin owned as many as seven slaves, two males of whom worked in his household and his shop. Franklin posted paid ads for the sale of slaves and for the capture of runaway slaves and allowed the sale of slaves in his general store. What bad things did benjamin franklin do?

Well, he was a member of the notorious "Hell Fire Club"; and he did own slaves.
Would you consider these "bad" ?

What are some bad things about Benjamin Franklin?

He was a flirt and somewhat of a philanderer. He had a temper, although he rarely showed it, but he could hold a grudge for a very long time. His illegitimate son William Franklin was the last loyalist governor of New Jersey. During the Revolutionary War, William Franklin was arrested and imprisoned, by that time his father had broken relations with his son and refused to help him get released or live in better conditions. After being held for two years William was released, without Franklin's help, and moved to the British controlled New York City. Before the war ended William left America and moved to England. Although on at least one occasion William tried to make amends with his father, Franklin would have none of it and he died without acknowledging his son.

What are some of Benjamin Franklin's failures?

He suggested the turkey as the national bird because the eagle was a bird of low moral characterHis phonetic alphabet“Franklin’s analysis resulted in removing six letters from the alphabet – C, J, Q, W, X, AND Y– that were, in his view, redundant or confusing. The “hard” and “soft” sounds of a C, for example, can easily be replaced by a K and S. Franklin also limited the remaining letters to one sound, “as every letter ought to be,” including vowels. In the phonetic alphabet, “long” vowel pronunciations are achieved using double vowels. The changes weren’t all reductive. Franklin’s alphabet includes six letters of his own devise: a letter that makes a “soft O” sound as in “folly” or “ball”; one that replaces all “sh” sounds as in “ship” or “function”; an “ng” sound; two “th” substitutes; and a letter that replaces both “um” and “un” letter combinations” (from www.smithsonianmag.com)

Help with benjamin franklin quotes?

The first is a general criticism of government's tendency to be rather like a septic tank. The largest chunks rise to the top.

Don't overstay your welcome.

Some things can't be delegated.

I've seen a restatement of that etched on a brass plate attached to a large and expensive powerboat. A little boy would have a toy boat, an old boy has a powerboat.

What does benjamin franklin mean by this...???

I think he means, in short, speak ill of no man, but speak all the good you know of everybody.

As Franklin arrived in Philadelphia with no money and no reputation, he journaled a manner of living that became a kind of personal credo, or at least "version one" of it. Here, at age twenty (1726), he came up with four basic "rational" rules for how he would live his life:

"Plan for Future Conduct"

1. It is necessary for me to be extremely frugal for some time, till I have paid what I owe
2. To endeavor to speak truth in every instance; to give nobody expectations that are not likely to be answered, but aim at sincerity in every word and action--the most amiable excellence in a rational being.
3. To apply myself industriously to whatever business I take in hand, and not divert my mind from my business by any foolish project of suddenly growing rich; for industry and patience are the surest means of plenty
4. I resolve to speak ill of no man whatever, not even in a matter of truth; but rather by some means excuse the faults I hear charged upon others, and upon proper occasions speak all the good I know of everybody.

"Energy and persistence conquer all things." - Benjamin Franklin?

That would depend on if what you are pursuing is right. If you are in the right then no it is a great attribute. Now if you are in the wrong that is another matter, lets take President Obama for example a Federal Judge has ruled that Obamacare is unconstitutional and therefore is void and cannot be implemented. The Obama administration is continuing to implement it, in this case his persistence is a very bad thing. Could you imagine what would have happened if any other president did something like this to defy a Federal Court? The media would have eaten them alive, but they are totally covering for him, and he therefore can do whatever he wants right or wrong.

What are some of the best Benjamin Franklin quotes?

Where to start?  Making memorable quotes was practically his career. Here are some that are so commonplace that you might not have wondered who first said them:"Time is money.""Honesty is the best policy.""Never put off until tomorrow that which you can do today.""By failing to prepare you are preparing to fail.""A place for everything and everything in its place." (It's uncertain whether he originally said this)Here are some of his best known quotes:"Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.""There was never a good war, or a bad peace""Fish and visitors smell after three days.""If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead and rotten, either write something worth reading or do things worth the writing.""They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.""In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.""It takes many good deeds to build a good reputation, and only one bad one to lose it.""Lost time is never found again."And here are some other good ones:"I wake up every morning at nine and grab for the morning paper. Then I look at the obituary page. If my name is not on it, I get up.""Keep your eyes wide open before marriage, half shut afterwards.""Beware of little expenses.  A small leak will sink a great ship.""So convenient a thing it is to be a reasonable creature, since it enables one to find or make a reason for everything one has a mind to do.""One today is worth two tomorrows.""If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins."One of his common themes is being careful with your time.
