Best Biography On Richard Nixon

Best Biography on Richard Nixon?

Of all the biographies written about the former president which one is the best,non-bias biography? I am looking for a good read on this controversial figure without an account tempered with dislike of the subject. Thanks in advance for pointing me to the best book.

What is the best biography of Richard Nixon?

For the Presidency, Richard Reeve’s President Nixon is a good nearly minute-by-minute account which includes a review of both news events and his White House papers, including his personal legal pad. It covers the Presidency only. Nixon a Life by Jonathan Aitken has been useful to me in researching my podcast, as well as RN: The Memoirs. Memoirs of all Presidents need to be taken with a grain of salt, but they can give some emotional perspective on what can be dry events.

What are the best books about Richard Nixon?

Here are some I would recommend which give substantial online samples:Richard M. Nixon (Conrad Black)Nixon (Jonathan Aitken was given unprecedented access to Nixon, in part because he was involved with the UK government and relatively friendly.)RN AutobiographyAlso, One of Us by Tom Wicker and Richard Milhous Nixon by Roger Morris (former National Security Council member) for a liberal takes.Ike and Dick by Jefferey Franks tell of the VP years in telling detail. Highly recommended as it is interesting and illuminating without packing in too much material for the average reader (so to confuse). You did not mention documentaries, but here is one I though pretty good. Some parts are not agreed with, like then congressman William Saxbe calling the Christmas Bombing as beyond reason. Could be, yet Saxbe was later infamous in my mind of damning a defendant, the kidnapped Patty Hearst who was at that time three months from a night abduction at gunpoint (and her bf hit on the head quite hard with a but of a gun IIRC), thrown in the trunk of the get away car while shooting at the neighbors who quickly took cover. Mmm. Patty Hearst kidnapped - Feb 04, 1974 - HISTORY.comSuppose an attorney General does that even with such questionable situations, yet in that case he was more aiming for public opinion rather than sound judgement, especially gushing as he did. On the whole though, a good documentary.

What is the best documentary on Richard Nixon?

First of all, this is one of the best documentaries I have seen. Probably the favorite subject of his cartoons was Nixon, unvarnished, over a period of some 25 years. Many of the cartoons of Nixon are shown and explained by Heblock himself. To me this is like Stephen Spielberg explaining one of his movies. You have seen the movie and now you get the complete story.Herblock was the only person who realized the importance of Nixon from the very beginning and somehow captured him exactly.

Is there a good biography of Richard Francis Burton?

Burton was a prolific writer and translator. Since he documents his own life, he's the go-to author.I'd suggest reading every book he wrote. I'm going to put that on my bucket list now.I first became aware/interested in Burton with his translation of “1001 Arabian Nights.” Other bits and pieces of his life are well worth spending your time. Start anywhere.Richard Francis Burton - Wikipedia

Which Nixon auto/biography should I buy?

For a well-written cradle to grave biography, see Richard Nixon: The Life - John A. Farrell. For his early life, see Richard Milhous Nixon: The Rise of an American Politician - Roger Morris. For a study of his presidency, see President Nixon: Alone in the White House - Richard Reeves. For a study of Watergate, see Nightmare: The Underside of the Nixon Years - J. Anthony Lukas. For a study of his foreign policy, see The Price of Power: Kissinger in the Nixon White House - Seymour Hersh. For a broader study of the Nixon era, see Nixonland: The Rise of a President and the Fracturing of America - Rick Perlstein.

What was Richard Nixon best known for?

To this day I consider Nixon as my favorite president as he ended the war in Vietnam, eliminated conscription and created an all-volunteer military, he signed the bill to allow Title IX into law which stated that if your school receives federal funds it must allow equal gender participation in all programs, to name just a few. This was with a Democratic Congress.I have to suck it up as everyone including all history textbooks place Watergate as his primary accomplishment. But I do suck it up. It does not alter my personal regard for him.Once Nixon got caught in the Watergate scandal, I did not stand by him as he committed a crime. I watched him resign on television live. Painful to watch.
