How do I get local channels on my T.V.?
Well if you canceled your cable as long as you have high speed internet you can always do HULU/Netflix. I don't think your TV is but if you have a "Smart TV" you may have an app for Netflix. If not then an HTPC would work great or through a laptop. If you're looking for something over-the-air then an antenna would work best. Keep in mind a crap antenna from Wally Worlds that cost $20 isn't going to get you much. You're best best is an outdoor antenna but if an indoor one is required then a high power one would be best. There are different types of antennas. All your stations either are in the VHF or UHF range. channels 1-13 are usually VHF while 14 on are considered UHF. As the channels get higher so does their frequencies and higher frequencies have a harder time penetrating walls especially concrete. This is why an outdoor antenna is best. Height and orientation also play an important role into which stations you can pick up. I have two websites for you to look at. The first being a place to find highly regarded antennas. They are all very good antennas for both indoor or outdoor use. Keep in mind that an outdoor antenna can easily be mounted in an attic instead of outside against the house or on a mast. The second website is a site that will tell you all the surrounding stations and at which channel they are on. It will give you the distance from those towers as well as the azimuth (orientation) from your location. It's a handy tool for when deciding as to what kind of antenna to use. PS: Your TV will work for any station available in the US so don't worry about it.

Since the digital conversion in the US, it's a bit more complicated that it used to be. You need a digital receiver, or an old receiver and a converter box. Then a suitable digital antenna, preferably mounted high and pointed toward the station's antenna. if you are within 50 miles and you have a good antenna, not only will you get local channels for free....the picture quality will actually be better than cable!, as the digital signals are often compressed in order to transmit on cable. Direct reception is actually better, if you are close enough!
